So I was wandering through a newspaper and found they are making a Sherlock Holmes movie and Apparently it is going to be an action flick. That or I read the article wrong. I thought the idea of a detective was to detect things not fight off ninjas.

Bleh further evidence we have reached the end of creativity and we must now reach into very old books we read in school and turn it into anything that might remotely be made popular by making into tits and swears (although its pg-13 so only one pair of breasts and a very loud "fuck" or about a hundred "damns and shits").

Some reading if you feel the urge.

Sherlock Holmes can't be made into action! It's wrong!

Is it being made by Americans by any chance?

I would agree, but Sherlock Holmes is a classic. Classic's are fair game for movies.

What about Lord of the Rings? That was a book long before it was a movie. Same with Dune, Clockwork Orange, etc. Books are some of the best ways to make money off films since the world is already created, you just expand upon it.

And I doubt they will be making Sherlock Holmes into tits and swears. While that would be an awesome movie, we have to wait for the sequel for that one.

I dont know off the top of my head I dont know directors and such but I do believe that it is being made by the people that keep making comic books into movies I will have to reread the article though.

Why must you always blame Americans first and foremost for any and all travesties like thi--

then again, you may have a point. Are we doing this? God, I hope not.

Yes but LOTR was adapted WELL, and was not completely massacred for the satiation of the action obsessed morons who will go to anything

But all those movies stayed pretty close to the context I dont think they are going to hit that on the mark. I think it said somewhere this is the "Current day holmes".

I peeked at the article and Guy Richie is directing it and one of the producers is married to the guy no one wanted in the movie because he didnt fit the part.

Last I heard, they were making two Sherlock Holmes at the moment. One's a decent crime-thriller, one's an action-comedy satire on modern cinema. It's just a huge cosmic coincidence.

That was a while back, but it's what I heard.

EDIT - Because I can spell, I just choose not to.

Oh Darnit. Guy Ritchie can't direct a tourist from Big Ben to the Houses of Parliament.
And, as will happen, the guy who doesn't suit the role will get in and screw it all up.

Well, Rachel McAdams is hot and I like Guy Ritchie movies (Snatch in particular), so I'm gonna have to give it a chance. (FYI: Guy Ritchie is English, so you can't blame 'us Yanks' for this one.)

And yeah, I wouldn't have picked Jude Law to be Watson either.

That is a bad thing to say and your a bad person because of it
Why so? if Twilight and 50 cents video games are so successful then its pretty obvious that shit sells even when it shouldn't..

And im in love with Sherlock :(

Actually, Robert Downey Jr. could work as Sherlock. He was a cocaine (or was it heroin?) addict. And for some reason, I could really see Downey Jr. as a drug addict.

But action, no. Sherlock Holmes is a man of the mind, he outwits his opponents, he doesn't blow them up or beat them to pulps.

An action flick about Sherlock Holmes? I will reserve my judgment. It could work out or bomb horribly.

See, the thing is, if Guy Ritchie is directing it, I'm inclined to believe that it's going to be humorous, so the 'action-comedy satire' that Chipperz mentions above seems completely plausible.

EDIT: and intriguing, frankly.
