Let's All Watch The Batman Trailer

In regards to the first two points, I can answer both because I was at the film shoot for the football game in Pittsburgh-

1. No, the Rogues are not the away team- The game is the Gotham City Rogues versus the Rapid City Monuments. I'm honestly not versed enough in comic lore to know if either of those are a reference to anything, but take that as you will.
2. This is the second time I've seen mention of the "R" looking like a Robin sign. I don't think that means anything- We were encouraged to make our own signs, and as far as I know, that was just a Bat-fan showing a bit of hidden love with his own sign. Now, why Chris Nolan decided to focus directly on that particular sign in the trailer is anyone's guess.

When I re-watched the trailer, I understood what Bane said: "When Gotham is in ashes, I will allow you to die."

Which, hey, I actually think that's a pretty cool line. They just need to ADR a better read so that we can actually understand it.

The whole Lazarus Pit thing is not going to happen. Begins was the most fantastical of this series, and that was still a million miles from magic swimming pools.

As for Bane's voice, I understood it the first time; could be a little de-muffled I guess, but all the hullaballo over it seems extreme.

... huh? Where the hell did that come from? TDK wasn't right-wing, and I highly doubt Christopher Nolan or his brother are anything close to Republicans.

And Sam Raimi didn't want to do Venom. Never udnerestimate the power of executive meddling.

Except Nolan is now in a position where he can do whatever the hell he wants (he practically shits gold for WB), and its been officially confirmed by everyone that he and Bale won't return and that this version is done with.

I agree also. I thought Begins was an exciting, taut thriller, but both TDK and Inception were in dire need of some script surgery... with a large machete.

Saying that, the trailer for TDKR looks intriguing, except for the slapstick CGI moment.

I'm still betting on Prometheus to be the dark blockbuster of the season, though.

Soured? No. Ledger's Performance? That's called Academy Award Syndrome. Once it wins, it's overrated. If it never won, It would have been called "A Crime against Humanity" until everyone remembers Bat Nipples exist.
Sick of Touting TDK as the greatest superhero movie ever? Yes, only because that honor is bestowed onto The Watchmen and The Mask, In my opinion.

OT: I wasn't disappointed by the trailer, but the whole Football Stadium thing made my nerd-rection drop, just because unless there is a practical understanding about how that works (Is that kind of technology reserved for demolitions of highrises?) It feels like the movie is a little unrealistic, and for some reason, that kind of bothers me.

Short of that, that was a teaser trailer of the worst variety, by that, I mean I really want to see it.

I'm as skeptical as you Bob. I don't think the trailer shows enough to give us any idea of what to expect. That can be good if it's to make us surprised at what actually is in the movie. Or it could be bad because there isn't much good to show us. I'm more skeptical of Spiderman, but I'm pretty skeptical for this one coming out on top too.

I heard that Nolan is redoing the distortion of Bane's voice due to negative viewer reactions. So that's one concern alleviated.

I've never watched a Nolan film I didn't like, so I'm not even being cautious in my optimism for DKR. I'm sure the doubts will prove unfounded, unless your doubts are based on not liking the Dark Knight, in which case, lets be honest, you're not going to like the Dark Knight Rises.

Seeing how half-finished and confusing the trailer is gives me concerns for the movie. Wouldn't shock me at all if Nolan or WB said "Ya know.. I bet I can make a total piece of crap and everyone will praise it because it's Batman made by Nolan." Of course, I'm not expecting that, I'm merely saying it wouldn't shock me.

It's Nolan, he's Steven Spielberg crossed with Kubrick, we don't need any other reassurances. He is, in fact, that good.

And seriously, Bob, movies have to stand on their own terms, even if that means stripping away the comic book trappings. There's a reason Batman does gritty better than anyone.

It looked to me like the stadium was being blown up with regular explosives, then collapsing into a series of tunnels and chasms (maybe that Native American step thing), like the kind that run under Wayne Manor. Gotham is supposed to be riddled with those kind of catacombs isn't it?

I'm actually down with Catwoman's "leave so little for the rest of us," because it adds a complicated dynamic to the scene. On the surface level: 99% Selina Kyle (For lack of a better phrase) versus 1% Bruce Wayne. On the next level: Bruce Wayne is Batman, and has been fighting to save the city. On the next level, HAS Batman been saving the city? Is taking out muggers and drug lords actually been helping people, or has his crusade gone the wrong direction? And what's Catwoman's role in all this? Is she just a straight-up burgler? Bane's assistant? Bane's unknowing lackey? Robin Hood-style thief?

Until the movie pulls a Michael-Bay grade "WE MUST ALWAYS BE ON THE OFFENSIVE," I reserve judgment and give way to complexity until I see otherwise. Judging by the use of emphasis of "crowd noise" in the trailer, plus Catwoman's attempt at class warfare, plus the big brawl that they shot in Philly over the summer, I'm getting the impression of some kind of populist movement that, while misdirected, Batman has somehow "earned" by making some crucial mistake.

Also, I'm agreeing with Bob that there's some secret to Bane we don't know about yet: His introduction in the first shot under the Star-Spangled Banner doesn't feel anything like how we were introduced to the Joker--but it's still cool because it's a quiet intro for what will be a powerful villain. Just feels like there's something they're hiding from us.

A small child crooning the American national anthem at a football game with overtones of the 1% versus the 99% seemed cheesy as hell and more like something Michael Bay would throw in a film than Christopher Nolan.

Here's hoping it doesn't it doesn't turn out to be as brainless as all that, but I'll definitely be waiting for the reviews on this one.

This was a very hard article to take seriously. Look, I understand that it's the cool thing to hate gritty realistic adaptations of things, but maybe not joining the mindless bleeting sheep about something could be a fresh change? It's not that big of a deal. It's actually very interesting when done right.

And what Voice Distortion? What cheesey looking mask? Sorry, were you hoping he was gonna be a luchadore wrestler? He's wearing a giant thing on his face. Of course his voice is gonna be muffled.

And what, are we suppose to be upset that someone is actually trying to give a character like CatWoman and Bane some depth instead of just a petty villain for the hell of it? It worked for the Joker because that was the charm of his character. That was the character.

Look Bob, I understand you're a critic, but at least try to not view everything in a negative light. I understand that the Green Lantern was hard on you, but you need to be a mature comic nerd about it. Maybe cool the entitlement a litt.

Edit: Oh, and I guarantee the movie is gonna end with Bruce dying and the Butler or someone else appearing at the Lazarus pit. Won't show him coming back to life, but you guess it yourself.

Why is that such a bad thing? That's gonna be the set up for the entire movie. It's not an undertone, it's how Bane is going to manage to take the city.

Do you not like it? Are you uncomfortable with something as close to home as that being represented in a movie?
