I'm more surprised by the fact that it managed to survive since the forgotten depths of time not being immune to its own venom only to succumb just as it encounters your fort. The only explanation is a divine miracle. Or curse, depending on how you look at it.

Don't worry about it most people get this problem, despite what image hosting they get. I just thought it would be a good idea to tell you as it makes it harder to get into it at the beginning.
Also if you are still doing it i would like to be Dwarf'd

Internet Kraken, please Dwarf me . I came all the way from the other side of the internet for this to happen. Plus my name is pretty applicable for a dwarf.

Well dammit.

I was all happy on the first update that I might get to do something and then it dawned on me that doing something means that I was going to likely die. I dislike being right.

Clearly that spider couldn't handle how awesome I was and felt bad for killing me and poisoned itself to make up for it.

w00t! all that fancy book learnin' hasn't gotten rid of the dwarf in ye. as for the spider, it said that it's bite was popisonous, yet its blood was the poison that killed it. maybe that explains the strange reaction? as for why it didn't self destruct on spawning, maybe the fighting triggered the poison, like punching a floating sand block in minecraft. or maybe it was always effecred, and you just didn't notice it.

Nah, syndromes are weird. They often act on a timer and/or have [SIZE_DELAYS] which makes it take time. The way random creatures work now is that they have any creature tokens and any syndrome tokens. The main reason it didn't die before the fortress is because time and temperature only really happen in your fortress. Also, Megabeasts happen to be immune to any attack during world gen. I should have started with that last one, huh.

Chapter 113: From the journal of Stinthad Kekimtobul

__________________________________________________

6th Malachite, 1060, Mid-Summer

Situation with the goblins is pretty much a stale mate, as usual. The goblins haven't had a chance to strike at us, and we haven't had a good chance to strike at them. If only we had the numbers to meet them in real combat...alas, that is likely not to be for a long time, if ever.

One thing I've noticed is that the goblins never seem to have any trouble with the local wildlife. Creatures just wander past them without giving them any trouble. Maybe it's because goblins are adapted to evil areas such as this and have a connection to the wildlife like elves. I honestly have no clue. Come to think of it we barely know anything about goblin society. I know it involves a lot of killing though, that much is obvious.

11th Malachite, 1060, Mid-Summer

The draining of Forgotten Lake is proceeding at the pace of a snail man. I had expected to get results by now, but barely anything has changed. You'd think with all the problem I have flooding stuff I'd actually be able to drain something properly! I'm going to try and find a way to speed the process up. I have an idea that might work, and it could have even more benefits...

20th Malachite, 1060, Mid-Summer

The noise created by all that rushing water seems to have attracted some more creatures of the abyss. Most of them have been harmless, but I'm not so sure about these things...

Kraken's notes: Wanamingos are a potentially deadly creatures that dwell in the abyss. They aren't very big and even their steel jaws aren't that impressive compared to other creatures. However, they move ridiculously fast. Attempting to escape from a wanamingo is hopeless, and trying to fight them without equipment is equally hopeless. Trained soldiers can defeat them but their powerful bite and tendency to travel in groups can make them formidable opponents.

Unlike most Abyss creatures, wanamingos can be tamed. However breeding them is difficult as female wanamingos, known as the queens, are exceptionally rare compared to their male counterparts. Goblins are undeterred by this and can sometimes manage to use wanamingos as war mounts.

Irridium says they're wanamingos, and that they can be very dangerous. I should do the safe thing and have them wiped out, but apparently the goblins have tamed these things in the past. If they can do it, why can't we? Irridium says that breeding them would normally be rather difficult, as the wanamingo queens are rare and elusive. But this group has 3 queens in it! I can't pass this opportunity up. Hopefully at least one of them will stumble into a cage trap.

27th Malachite, 1060, Mid-Summer

Alright, here's my new plan. Another tunnel is going to be dug out for the purpose of draining Forgotten Lake into the Abyss. Unlike our first tunnel, this one will be directly underneath the lake so water should drain into it faster.

However, this tunnel will also lead directly to a cliff! The idea is that anything sucked down the tunnel will be pushed by the rushing water over the edge. I doubt even a long fall such as this one would kill a forgotten beast, but it should at least seriously injure them. Maybe not Momuz though. I think that thing has literally turned into a zombie.

Gods help anyone unfortunate enough to be bitten by it. Anyway, Zeath has once again volunteered to do the digging. He should be fine, given how easily he outran the water last time.

29th Malachite, 1060, Mid-Summer

No...

NO!

DAMMIT WHY DO I KEEP LETTING THIS HAPPEN!?!?

Yet another hauler lost to my desire to raise an exotic animal army. Well I guess he's not dead yet, but I'll be amazed if the military manages to kill that wanamingo queen before she breaks his neck.

Wait, what is a Wanamingo? Is it like this? [http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Wanamingo]
Wouldn't be the first time I put something from another game into this one.

Limecake should have died in this update. Wanamingos have teeth as tough as steel and can cleave through dwarf flesh like butter. I don't know why the queen decided to strangle him with her tentacles instead. I wasn't even aware they could do that.

Of course strangling someone to death still works, it just takes longer than biting them in half.

Hey you know those updates were everything just seems to go wrong? Were everything is falling apart and I'm slamming my head against the keyboard in frustration because of how stupid my dwarves are?

Next update is going to be one of those.

I'm also going to be trying something a bit different when it comes to describing the events, so we'll see how that goes. Suffice to say its a clusterfuck so I'm taking a new approach for now.

Symapthy, maybe? If little F_F can hear me in the fortress, hide! Hope Limecake somehow survives too. And the fort. :(

Chapter 114: A Retelling of Ancient Dwarven History

__________________________________________________

On the coast of the Ocean of Shriveling, chaos brews. As dwarves scramble across the surface in a panic, goblins sit outside the microline walls. They bide their time, waiting for an opportunity to strike. They have no idea what is going on beyond the scorched walls and dried moat. Deep in the abyss, foul monsters have found yet another unfortunate soul to devour.

The two wanamingos pull at the poor dwarf from opposite sides, attempting to rip him in two. Limecake would be screaming, he had not passed out from the intense pain of being strangled long ago. Eventually the wanamingos tire of the torture, and settle on breaking open their prize the easy way.

A sickening crack echos through the caverns as Limecake's skull shatters between the wanamingo's steel jaws. Grisly bits of bone and brain stain the floor as the strange creatures begin to feast upon the corpse. But their meal is disturbed by the sound of fleeing footsteps. One of the queens gives chase, realizing that another potential meal has stumbled upon them.

Jessica had come to the abyss to retrieve the bodies of fallen dwarves, It wasn't respectful to just leave them to rot down there, and more importantly there was a chance they might turn into vengeful ghosts if left unattended. Having only experienced the violent side of Reveredtour through the injuries of the hospital's many patients, she hadn't considered the possibility of joining those bodies.

There would be no prolonged suffering this time. The wanamingo queen was furious at having been pestered by this dwarf and sought the end its life quickly. Systematically crippling all of Jessica's limbs, the wanamingo queen easily incapacitated its new prey and delivered the killing blow in a few short seconds.

One loud crunch and it was all over. The wanamingo's were quite pleased to have found such pathetic creatures, unaware that their kills would not go unpunished. A legion of soldiers rushed down the deep roads, throwing all caution to the wind and seeking only to rid their home of this new menace.

But the wanamingo's were not the only beasts waiting in the depths of the abyss.

Yet another forgotten beast had found its way beneath Reveredtour, proudly announcing its presence with an intimidating screech of fury. It flew to the celling of the cavern and began surveying the surroundings, searching for suitable prey.

Meanwhile, the soldiers of Reveredtour had finally confronted the wanamingo's. Or at least one of them had. Gonzo20, acting with little regard for his own life, had rushed on ahead in a futile attempt to end the wanamingo's lives before they could wreak anymore havoc. He now found himself alone, and though he was by no means unfamiliar with combat, this was a truly fearsome beast. The wanamingo queen attacked with relentless fury, and he was barely able to keep up with her rapid movements. He needed backup desperately...

Backup that was nowhere close to arriving. While many novice soldiers slowly made their way to the deep, Reveredtour's veterans were still on the surface. Confusion had been generated over the specific details of their orders. Unsure if they were supposed to actively pursue the wanamingos or stand on guard to keep them and the new forgotten beast at bay, they stood at the entrance to the deep roads bickering. They would not be helping the other soldiers anytime soon.

With his back pressed up against a tangle of blood thorns and the wanamingo queen bearing down on him, Gonzo20 was in a dire situation. He refused to give in to the beast striking back at any opportunity he could find. But the queen withstood his blows and specifically targeted the portions of armor that were of lower quality. Gonzo20 struggled as hard as he could, but the intense pain in his leg was draining his strength away...

Elsewhere in the abyss, the humble carpenter Great Order goes about her daily routine of chopping down trees and hauling them back to the workshops far above. She knew there was something going on aside from the siege, but never being much of a people person she hadn't bothered to learn more about it. As such, she was completely unaware of the great beast Athrig stalking her. At least until it let out a screech that shook the walls of the cave itself.

Gonzo20 had also heard this screech, but he was far too busy fighting the wanamingo queen to give it more than a glancing thought. With nowhere to run, he was desperately waiting for the rest of his squad to arrive. However they were still far behind, nowhere near helping him. Suddenly the queen got a hold of Gonzo's leg and hoisted him into the air, ready to crush his head between her jaws like so many other creatures before...

But at the very last moment, Gonzo managed to sock the queen right in her jaw. Reeling back from the sudden pain, her grip on Gonzo weekend. Not only did he escape from her grasp, but he also managed to get behind her. No long trapped in the corner, Gonzo had far more room to work with making dodging the queen's blows even easier. She was absolutely furious though, and was not giving him a chance to strike back.

Things were not going so well for Great Order, who now found herself pinned under Arthig's foot. She looked around for any sign of aid, but there was no one nearby. No hope of escape. No hope of surviving. But maybe, just maybe, if she could reach her axe she could-

She didn't have time to finish that thought. Arthig was absolutely famished after its long journey and was eager to feast on fresh meat. Looking around for any potential threats, Arthig saw nothing. Nobody had come to save Great Order. The beast was free to dine in peace.

But the peace would not last long. More soldiers were pouring into the abyss, some of them having finally reached commander Gonzo20. The wanamingo queen realized that it had no chance of fighting off so many dwarves alone and turned to flee. The soldiers gave chase, while Gonzo20 collapsed from exhaustion on the hard cavern floor. He felt content, knowing that his subordinates could finish off the wanamingo's on their own. Unaware of the rampage of Arthig, he allowed himself to drift into unconsciousness.

On the surface, the goblins stared at Reveredtour in confusion. A great uproar could be heard from behind the walls, but they had no idea as to what was causing it. They were beginning to realize that the dwarves of Reveredtour would likely tear themselves apart without any outside intervention. With no decent results to be had, the goblin commanders contemplated ending the siege prematurely.

Their thoughts were interrupted by a roar that shook the earth. Trees fell, stone cracked, and a behemoth was marching on the horizon.
