Eh. Soap is a hassle. Real men dwarves go without. Had a couple of dwarves who could have used it after the attack of Bombach, the steam Forgotten Beast.
Bombach died in about 7 seconds, but he did manage to rip my militia captain's eyes out. It's done nothing. My captain is still leading the squad as an unstoppable killing machine. He's like Daredevil without all the bitching.
Still working on turning my fort into ocean front property. Is collapsing a vast expanse of land to pointlessly create new ocean insane? Very. In the best way.

Okay, this update I caught a living giant cave spider (and a zombie one). I'm not quite sure what I should do with it. Pretty much every animal gets turned into a war beast in my games, but I imagine some people would consider this a waste. So any ideas on what to do with it?

Oh hey, the tame pair actually created these ones. The saves us a lot of time. I'm not sure why the other ones are born feral. Maybe hatching inside a cage makes you start off thirsty for dwarf blood.

So I went to meet with the humans today. They seemed eager to trade with us, as usual. The Relieved Craft has a good relationship with the Kingdoms of Mirth. They always have a demand for ridiculously large quantities of low quality stone crafts. I traded them several bins of crafts in exchange for more bronze gear and a lot of booze.
I was happy, the humans were happy, so everything worked out. They don't freak out over a tiny splint like those silly elves.

Oh joy! The first floor of my office had been built! I'm quite pleased with I, even if it is a bit bare at the moment.
Stonesense Version [http://img573.imageshack.us/img573/7408/officesense.png]
But I already have many ways to improve it. I think I'll have some gem windows installed at some point. Still, it's more than adequate for now.

Wow! The mechanics told me they had caught a rare creature, but I didn't think they meant a giant cave spider! We're so lucky! Normally giant cave spiders don't get caught in traps and instead start eating some poor worker.
Kraken's notes: Giant cave spiders (GCS) are a significant threat, despite the fact that they can be found on the very first cavern layer. Giant cave spiders are capable of sneaking up on their prey, and when they attack they can ensnare the victim in web, preventing them from fleeing. The giant cave spider is then capable of pouncing upon the helpless victim and injecting its potent venom into them. This venom causes near instant paralysis of the entire body, and is usually fatal to most creatures due to suffocation.
While giant cave spiders are truly deadly creatures, they are also very useful. Giant cave spiders obviously produce giant cave spider silk, the most valuable type of cloth available. A player who catches a giant cave spider can set up a renewable source of giant cave spider silk, provided they perform some clever engineering.
I wonder if we'll be able to get some giant cave spider silk using this guy. That would be awesome!

I've expanded the dormitories to accommodate for all the migrants we've received. Whilst doing so, I decided to make it more visually appealing. Granted the view of the ocean is pretty in my opinion, but I've heard some of the dwarves complain that the sight of zombie demikraken battling with skeletal whales in the moonlight isn't pleasant. So I needed something else to make the dormitories appealing.

Statues improve everything!

Yara is still chasing that octopud through the caverns. It seems my previous assessment of him being too dumb to threaten Reveredtour is quite accurate.

Things seem rather calm lately. There haven't been any attacks, even minor ones. We haven't run into supply problems. All work is getting done without incident. It feels odd to be able to relax so much, almost like there's some massive problem approaching just over the horizon. I suppose I should be glad though, as I haven't had a good break in a long time.

I'm happy to say that I've properly honored our fallen hero. A memorial island dedicated to Alath has been constructed.
Stonsense Version [http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/3128/alathsense.png]
Each one of those memorial slabs depicts one of Alath's acts of heroism. When the flood bridges are raised, the island is inaccessible, preventing it from being defiled by outside forces. I see this as a fitting way to remember the man who did so much for Reveredtour. I hope I never have to do something like this again though.

Man, there's a lot of miasma coming up from haven. I should probably check what's down there- OH GOD!
How is there a miasma cloud this thick?!? I can barely even see through it! Wait, is that a dwarf sitting in the middle of it? It's one of the cooks! What are they doing that produces this much miasma?!?
Stinthad: "Excuse me, what's your name?"
OhJohnNo: "OhJohnNo."
Stinthad: "That's an odd name...nevermind, what the heck is going on here? Why is there a storm of miasma?"
OhJohnNo: "Butchering a giant alligator isn't going to smell like a picnic."
Stinthad: "What?"
OhJohnNo: "That giant alligator. I'm butchering it."
Stinthad: "Why? It's rotten!"
OhJohnNo: "True, but the bones are still good!"
I don't get it. The dwarves here will let good meat go to waste but are perfectly willing to sit in a cloud of miasma all day hacking up alligator flesh to get to some bones. Why not just butcher Rofa when he wasn't spewing noxious fumes?

Goden sure seems to be happier lately.
I like to think it's because my positive attitude has influenced her to become a more optimistic person.
But in reality I know it's just because she's found something to unload her anger onto.
If only Dishmab were still here. Then this senseless slaughter would serve some purpose.
11th Sandstone, 1054, Mid-Autumn
I noticed some food lying outside the fort. It's still perfectly good, so I don't get why it's just lying there. I should go get it.
AUGH WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?!!? SOMEBODY KILL IT!!!
13th Sandstone, 1054, Mid-Autumn
Considering Goden is running around with two artifacts I don't get why she feels the need to attack zombies with her fists, but if she can also punch them out of existence then I guess it's okay.
15th Sandstone, 1054, Mid-Autumn
I've noticed that Zulban has been clutching a large dagger in his hands. He's going to be stuck in the hospital forever, so he has no use for this. But every time I try to take it from him he gets very anger.
It's a bit disturbing, but I'm sure it won't be a problem. It's not like he's going to shank me with it or something.
17th Sandstone, 1054, Mid-Autumn
It seems Rofa rotting and producing a storm of miasma taught the cooks a lesson. For when Furgig died, they decided to haul his massive corpse to a butcher's shop and chop it up. It took them several weeks to finish doing so, but now we have a mountain of delicious meat!
Okay the fact that it's all vibrant green and covered in miniature spikes is somewhat unappetizing, but we can't really afford to be picky. Besides, it has a nice zesty taste.

Oh boy, more migrants! We needed more masons and soldiers. Seems like a group of reasonable dwarves. I like this Silent Thunder a lot in particular. Why?
Well, she's one of the few dwarves who appreciates bucklers as much as I do! I think we'll get along just fine.
24th Sandstone, 1054, Mid-Autumn
Goden was awfully angry today. I asked her what was wrong, and she told me that her art was being violated.
I was confused by this. It didn't seem like there was any reason for her work to be destroyed. Then she told me that the miners had carved straight through one of her "masterful" engravings.
I told her this was a mistake, but to be honest I ordered the diggers to do so to access some gems in the wall. I didn't think anyone would care about one of over a hundred engravings being ruined.
1st Timber, 1054, Late Autumn
In light of the recent attacks on Reveredtour, it's about time we got a metal industry up and running. There isn't enough equipment to go around, and it's all low quality bronze at best. We need dwarven steel if we are to thrive!
So I've ordered a large amount of bituminous coal be dug out, as we will need it to fuel the forges. Alas, if only we had an easily accessible source of magma this would not be necessary. Still, working with charcoal and coal is simple enough if you ensure that you have a large enough quantity to keep forging practices going.
6th Timber, 1054, Late Autumn
Seems we caught a pack of naked mole dogs. I wanted to tame and breed them, but apparently they only live for about 2 years in captivity. That would just be too difficult to manage, so we'll have to butcher them instead. I hear mole dog steaks taste pretty good though.
8th Timber, 1054, Late Autumn
Now this is more like it! A proper bedroom for someone of my status.
Stonesense Version [http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/829/bedroomsense.png]
The gem windows are very pretty, and I stuck that artifact cabinet in the middle of the room. Now it's a much nicer bedroom than before. I dare say it's one of the best I've ever seen!
Some might say it's wrong for me to have such an opulent room when the rest of the dwarves are sleeping in a public dormitory. However, as both mayor and chief medical dwarf of Reveredtour, I'd say I'm entitled to this. Nobody's complaining anyways.
9th Timber, 1054, Late Autumn
How could this happen?!? How could the haulers let that much meat go to waste?!? This is terrible. Now we won't have nearly as much delicious pterosaur to go around!
At least the rest of the food here is great though.
OhJohnNo came up with this recipe, and it's delicious. Goden said eating this stuff will be the death of me. I don't get why, I mean if it tastes good it can't be that bad for you, right?
11th Timber, 1054, Late Autumn
That dwarf Silent Thunder seems pretty friendly, and we get along well, so I decided to have her work in the hospital. Now she knows even less about medical practice than I do, so she isn't preforming surgery or anything like that. I just need someone to keep the patients feed when I can't. You don't need to take 5 years of medical training to give someone a plump helmet.
Of course, the result of this is that I've had even less to do recently. So I've been spending the majority of my time off hanging around with Lorbam and Ingiz in my bedroom.
Sometimes I wish there was someone of interest to me here in Reveredtour. I mean a lot of the other dwarves are nice, but none of them seem like good relationship material. Then again I could just be too picky, but after what happened in my last relationship I can't be too careful.
18th Timber, 1054, Late Autumn
Hey, I think I see the dwarven caravan approaching! They seem a bit late this year. I wonder what's held them up. Well, better get- wait a minute, that's a lot of dwarves for one caravan...and now that a get a better look at them, those aren't dwarves at all! Just who the heck is that? And why is one of them riding on a beak dog- oh, wait.
Really short update, but I think you can understand why I ended it there.
Also to any of the named dwarves, if you want to me to post the profile of your dwarf just ask. I'll do so, provided you haven't been skewered by a goblin spearmen in the next update.
I would like to request that you post my dwarfs profile, I would like to see how much of a failure/blessing upon reveredtour I am, thanks, and good luck with the goblins!
Oh wow. I was going to post that my recent fortress is thriving at the moment, with a headcount of well over the hundred, but nothing's really happening. With seven civs near, I was wondering how long 'till a siege would occur.
I would like to request that you post my dwarfs profile, I would like to see how much of a failure/blessing upon reveredtour I am, thanks, and good luck with the goblins!
Your profile description doesn't exactly suggest an active dwarf. On top of all this, he was on break when I took this screenshot. I'm tempted to believe that your dwarf is a lazy, fat bastard.
So I'm going to blame him for letting the forgotten beast rot.

may i ask why with 2 births and 2 migrations i havent turned up yet?
eh... maybe next one.
PS: when Vall' does turn up please remember to NOT throw him at a forgotten beast "for the lolz" like some of my dwarves just did... okay he Did pull an Alath but it wasnt that bad... i think D:
