Too bad Luthama's death won't give any meat, though I'm curious as to why do kruelers give leather if they're balls of tin?
Tin leather. Very popular in Turkmenistan.

Wow... things seem to be going well.
...

If I was there, I'd throw something at someone, just to make things interesting. It would be funny.

Well I hope I haven't offended or annoyed anyone :p

I have a hard enough time trying to get my friends interested in playing it. Once they do they are hooked :p It really is an awesome game with a lot of depth. One thing I can't figure out is how to get sand or make a map with sand included.
Ah, sorry about that, did not mean to offend. Just discussing what I feel, but was probably a bit harsh, use whatever you like.

And on the note of the LP, at least things are looking up....for now. I suspect the forgotten beasts are gathering in the caverns and you are to be rushed by several giant adamantine elfs.

Yay! I made it to Reveredtour! Or rather, Reveredtour made it to my arrival.

You can make recaging zombies marginally safer by making an animal stockpile next to the cage so there's less risk of zombie escape when the haulers get distracted by something.

After seeing your thread I've tried Dwarf Fortress and love it. It's a pity that I don't seem to get up as interesting things as you do though. :(

EDIT: I got my first migrant today and guess what it was a fucking presser! I have no idea what they do anyway. Hauling duty it is for him then.
Turns out that he was a good surgeon and soap maker. I also had another guy who was an novice Seige enginner, Stone crafter and a metalsmith.

So how do I make metal?

The process of creating metal is a bit complex and requires a lot of different materials, hence why I didn't get a metal industry up and running until late in the game. To make metal, you need two things; raw ore and fuel.

Fuel is what is needed to power basically every metal related action. Your first bit of fuel will be charcoal. You get charcoal by burning logs in a wood furnace. Once you have some charcoal you can get some metal working done. However you'll probably want to move on to refining bituminous coal into coke as it's a far more efficient fuel source.

Once you have fuel, you need raw ore. You'll dig up a large variety of ores as you expand your fort. To make a desired type of metal, such as iron, you need the proper ore(s) needed to make the metal and fuel. If you have both a dwarf can produce metal bars at a smelter. These metal bars can then be worked into useful objects like weapons at a forge. This also requires fuel.

If you need more specific information try looking up metal on the wiki. It's a good resource especially when you don't know the recipe for a certain type of metal. I had no clue about how to make lay pewter until recently.

Anyway, now that I have an alter in the game, would you mind posting(or PM)my stats?
I'm gonna try to guess how many episodes I last ;-;

As you can see, you have no useful skills at the moment. However rather than regulate you to hauling or masonry I instead decided to make you a digger.

You're actually the most skilled mechanic in Reveredtour despite just arriving. Though maybe that's not true, considering Rabid also appears to be a liar.

Thanks for that I've got it all set up and now my dwarfs refuse to make coal. Even though I made it their preference. Dwarfs are stupid :/

Why, I'll have you know that I'm a great mechanic!

I studied at the most prestigious mechanic college in the land: Dwarf University. Where's that you ask? Oh, it's in a little town called... um... Mechatania. It's pretty far from here, not surprising you haven't heard of it.

Yes, you'll be glad to have me around!

Talented miller and proficient pump operator?
All my life's "talents" can be easily replaced by a wheel and a couple cogs :/
You don't even like pumps and milling is better done with artificial power
And how did I even manage to get those "skills" without getting strong?
God I'm such a failure -.-'

It's good to know you put me in an interesting job,I was worried my fate was to die to a boring old lockdown and not get the glory of melting while fighting magma creatures

Surprised that nothing awful and murderous happened this episode. Looks like you're coming out on top!

Also, I forget, did I apply for Dwarfism?

Chapter 75: From the journal of Stinthad Kekimtobul

__________________________________________________

11th Galena, 1056, Late Summer

Things are surprisingly calm lately. Work is going as planned and there haven't been any major issues. Seems like the fort has finally gotten back up to pace. Which is nice, but I haven't had much to write about lately. I never realized that most of journal entries come as a result of something terrible happening. I guess it's a good thing these pages are blank.

Though maybe this is a sign. Like, I need to start focusing more on the positive things! Well here's something positive; the forge masters are almost done making the lay pewter bars! Soon we'll have some pretty lay pewter statues. One of those would go great in my office. Actually, it would be even better in a dining room! Of course I'd have to get the masons to build me a dining room first, but that shouldn't take to long.

14th Galena, 1056, Late Summer

Oh, humans! I was a bit worried that they were no longer interested in trading with us, but it seems there is a pretty big human caravan approaching. It has a lot of armed escorts, which only makes sense. I don't get why the elves never bring any guards with them. Their peace with nature might protect them from some dangerous predators, but it doesn't stop the undead and goblins.

Huh? That's weird. There are more humans approaching off in the distance. A lot of them! Odd that there would be so many-

...oh fuck.

18th Galena, 1056, Late Summer

I suppose it was only a matter of time before the goblins showed up again.

There are a lot of them...again. I'm not sure how our military can ever defeat such a massive horde. I'm certainly not going to try now. So of course I initiated standard lockdown procedures, which actually went well for once since nobody was outside at the moment! I could have sealed off Reveredtour then, but I wanted to give the humans a chance to make it inside.

Unfortunately, it seems that they were under attack from a troll kill squad. The guards told the merchants to run on ahead while they attempted to hold off the trolls.

And to my surprise, they proved to be quite effective!

The guards actually managed to slay all the trolls without a single casualty. However a goblin squad was rapidly closing in on them so they made the sensible choice of running to the fort as fast as they could. I waited as long as I could without putting our safety at risk. In the end it was worth, since every human managed to enter the fort before the bridge was raised!

Well...almost all of them. One of the guards was escorting a straggling merchant when goblin macemen reached the bridge. I had no choice but to raise it, trapping the two humans outside. The guard tried to protect the terrified merchant from the onslaught...

But his bravery was not enough to overcome the goblins. The merchant is alone now, with goblins closing in on him from all sides. I...don't need to watch what happens to him.

21st Galena, 1056, Late Summer

It seems the goblins are employing different tactics now. Rather than just set up camp off in the corner of the wastes like last time, they've instead opted to patrol around the exterior of the fort.

Lots of hungry break dogs just sitting out there. They look intimidating, but unless they learn how to swim or fly they can't hurt us. And since most of our defensive walls have been built they can't bother the workers either...I think. I suppose this will be a test of our defenses.

25th Galena, 1056, Late Summer

Oh boy! I just found out that the forge masters have finished the lay pewter statues!

It may have taken them awhile, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

Stinthad: "Engarde! I heard you finished making the statues?"
Engarde: "Yes, we did. I'm sure you'll be quite pleased with them. In fact, I made one statue just for you."
Stinthad: "Really? Oh let me see it!"

Stinthad: "Oh god...I...uh..."

Engarde: "I hope you enjoy it."

Um, okay, I didn't want to be rude but why did she have to make a statue out of worms?!??! I hate worms!! They're so gross and slimy and squirmy and...eugh! I'm sure it was just a mistake though. She didn't know I hated worms. I mean if she did, why would she make a worm statue in the first place?

27th Galena, 1056, Late Summer

AAAAAHHH THERE ARE GHOSTS!!!!!

GHOSTS THAT ARE TRYING TO KILL US!!!

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!!?!?!

I have to say that, while I find this thread to be immensely entertaining, since I don't play the game I do not gain any useful information from looking at the screens of ASCII characters. I actually liked seeing the image with a tile set that made it clear what I was looking at because, without such a thing, the only information I get regarding what the hell the fort looks like is from the text itself.

Still, were it not for the fact that the game presents a sheer vertical cliff of complexity to a starting player, this thread would make me want to play the game.

Try The Complete and Utter Newby Tutorial for Dwarf Fortress.

I was also too intimidated by the learning cliff to try this game, until I found this. It's an incredibly easy, step-by-step guide on how to start and build a fortress.

Most other guides and how-tos assume the player knows basic things, such as what the hell am I looking at?, but the C.U.N... um... that's not a great acronym... the tutorial I linked explains all of that in detail, in an easy to follow way.

Nice to see a dwarf's blood lust drives them from beyond the grave too. I wonder if Avuz will get a title for kills made by his ghost?
