Chapter 98: From the journal of Stinthad Kekimtobul

Finally, after months of work the walls surrounding Reveredtour are complete!
This protective barricade ensures that we shall never again be harassed by archers. Furthermore, it means that the animals living in the moat are no longer at the mercy of said archers. Before they would be shot and killed, having nowhere to hide. Now they can live in peace, devouring the occasional goblin that tumbles into the moat.
Reveredtour is now essentially impenetrable. When the bridge is raised, the outside world has almost no influence on us. Of course, I shall be doing everything in my power so that we never have to hide like that again. Still, it's nice to know that we can be truly safe should the need come up.

Rabid: "Lady Stinthad, could I perhaps have a moment of your time?"
Stinthad: "Of course! What's the matter?"
Rabid: "Well, you see my Blood Bowl, she suffers. She is choked with vegetation. Small shrubs, tiny plants, all manner of things that come from the caverns below."
Stinthad: "I'm not sure I see the problem here..."
Rabid: "Well, a proper killing ground cannot be one overrun with plants, correct? Would be a shame for some brave soldier to charge heroically into battle only to trip on a vine and get his head chopped off."
Stinthad: "I suppose that would be rather dumb..."
Rabid: "Exactly! So, I told the masons to pave the area over with stone. I trust this will not be a problem?"
Stinthad: "Oh of course not!"
Rabid: "Excellent! Oh yes, one last thing. Your strange advisor Goden ordered me to engrave some strange symbol into the floor of the blood bowl. I will do so, but I just wanted to make sure you knew. I do not care how the blood bowl looks, so long as she is functional."
Odd, that's the same symbol Goden has in her office. She won't tell me what it means either, only that it is a tribute. That just raises more questions though! I suppose it ultimately won't matter though.

Hey, I think I see the human caravan! Weird, they seem to be showing up early. And there are a lot of them. Maybe it's not humans. Maybe it's actually a large migrant wave. Or maybe...wait.
Oh fuck.
Uhhh......
AH SHIT EVERYONE GET BACK INSIDE!!!!!

Oh gods this is horrible! I should have known better than! I should've been anticipating this attack! The goblins have arrived once again, and not only have they locked us away in our own home, but they have slaughtered our brave soldiers!
The Silvers of Heat were out hunting warthogs when the goblins arrived. General Veok saw an opponent that must be crushed, an ordered his men to charge. But he was up against and entire beak dog division lead by an experienced goblin commander.
It was awful! They never even had a chance! Cut down in mere moments! An entire squad wiped out by just a fraction of the goblin military!
Catface tried to run. He saw his brothers fall in mere seconds. He saw his dog crushed under iron boots. What hope did he have? I don't blame him for running. I ask for courage from my soldiers, not suicidal bravado.
Lewism tried to help him. He gave his life to hold off the goblin horde and let Catface slip away.
But it wasn't enough.
He was chased down and slain. All of them were. Not one member of the Silvers of Heat lives. The entire squad was exterminated in less than an hour.
How can we hope to defeat this? We don't stand a chance. I have ordered the bridge raised. I will not let the goblins kill any more dwarves. They may have the land around us, but we shall not let go of the fort itself.

I refused to let the goblins achieve victory so easily. I would make them pay in any way I could. It was this point I remembered the zombie army I had been preparing for so many years. Now was the perfect time to activate it. The zombie horde would be unleashed upon the goblins and no doubt destroy some of them.
But I was wrong. The goblins defeated the zombies with ease. Not a single one fell. My only way of striking back against the goblins has failed. To make matters worse, Rabid told me had had devised a way to strike back against the goblins. He planned to use catapults he had set up on Bunker Hill to kill the goblins from afar.
But of course it didn't work. Everything is falling apart. Rather than launching stones to crush the goblins, Rabid instead was shot from across the river by an expert goblin archer.
We have failed in every conceivable way. What can we possibly do now but wait?

Things just keep getting worse. When NikitaK heard that master mechanic Rabid had fallen, she refused to believe it. She thought he had only been wounded and that we had left him to die alone on Bunker Hill. She ran there to recover his body, only to suffer the same fate as he did.
Bunker Hill is not safe right now. The goblin archer knows that he can simply snipe civilians from across the river. For the time being I am forbidding all travel in the area to prevent more dwarves from being shot.

Silent Thunder has tried to start a party. She is attempting to keep morale up, to distract us from the wave of death sitting outside. To show the goblins that we cannot be broken. I admire her spirit, but I can't bring myself to engage in such festivities when I know the blood of those dwarves is on my hands.
The goblins also celebrate. The laugh due their complete dominance over us. How they have managed to drive us into our home once again. One day I would like to show thus green skins a true army, but I doubt Reveredtour shall ever gather a fighting force capable of taken on such a massive siege.
Unless we build a much larger military.
The process of rebuilding our lost strength must begin right away. We cannot wait for more experienced dwarves to arrive and make do with what we have. I have formed a new squad, the Chambers of Alchemy. It is a small squad composed entirely of conscripted masons. The new commander Ynotgriff is barely more experienced than the complete neophytes she shall teach, but we cannot let that hold us back. They shall learn to fight by any means necessary.
