I know the solution to your lack of aiming skills; when in doubt, get more dakka. Because you can't ever have too much artillery.

Why conscript all those masons into your military? Conscript them into the Engineering Corps, the new saviors of Reveredtour! I mean, if you fire enough rocks, you're bound to hit something, right? Right?! See! Foolproof.

Take a trip to the Circus and the clowns will tell you.
I've never made it to the circus personally, and the only LP I read that made it there was using a texture pack.
...

What are you guys talking about? Is this some reference to some über Let's Play from the past? Boatmurdered?
Long story short, the circus is a place of endless fun.

At least if I ever reach adulthood I'll have a skill to work on =D
And I do so love that earring. Iron ore can and should be a dwarven aphrodisiac.

I just want to point out that the beat of your avatar's wings PERFECTLY matches the beat of the song I'm listening to now (Time Is Running Out, Muse). It's creepy.

Maybe you could try using a ballista? They are more dangerous to your dwarf but they might actually hit something if you train your mechanics a bit.

Spoilers: The Circus is not well known in Dwarf Fortress, and longtime players refer to the Clowns and the Circus so as not to give the game away about what they're actually talking about.

The info is there if you want to find it, but manners prevent me saying where/why.
Ohhhh that Circus. I actually tried to get tickets to the Circus one. For some reason I couldn't. I had a sad that day. No fun for me. *sigh*

Aaaaaaaaaaah. I think I found the problem with the catapult. There are no goblins in sight - catapults have something between 10 to 20 degrees of field of fire. However, if you tell a dwarf to "Fire at Will" even if there is nothing to fire at, they will simply shoot in empty space. I'd suggest building a new catapult - or even better, a BALLISTA - facing a position where there should always be gobs'.

i say turn all of Bunker Hill into an artillery outpost with Ballista's behind fortifications on the rivers edge and many many catapults behind them.

also i still advocate using the Forgotten Beasts to kill goblins

Your dwarf is fine. When I made that list I left out a few names due to lazy copy+paste errors. However, that's not why you didn't show up. For some reason Dwarf Fortress forgot your custom nickname and replaced it with a default one. I fixed it though after about 10 minutes of trying to figure out which dwarf it was.

To everyone mentioning bastilla; yes, they are far more effective than catapults. However, bastilla require ammo which I can not produce at the moment as I have the forge masters working on supplying the military. Catapults on the other hand require only stone, which is always abundant.

use bloodthorn wood, as it is the densest wood in the game, and so can cause a fair bit of damage.

Chapter 100: From the journal of Stinthad Kekimtobul

__________________________________________________

1st Timber, 1058, Late Autumn

It has occurred to me that after many years living in Reveredtour, most dwarves here do not have a proper home. That's not to say the public dormitory isn't nice. I may not have to sleep there, but I wouldn't mind. I mean, there's only one area coated in dried blood! Compared to the rest of the fortress that's really clean.

Still, even if sleeping in there isn't so bad most dwarves lack any area to store their personal belongings. The lack of rooms also means there is no concept of privacy here. I shall work to resolve this problem.

12th Timber, 1058, Late Autumn

I awoke today to find that the goblins camping outside our walls had left. Or rather, were in the process of doing so. I saw them packing up their gear and heading back into the wastes. I'm not sure what caused them to give up. Seems like this siege didn't last as long as the others.

As soon as the last goblin fades out sight I shall lower the bridge and end the lockdown. How fortunate that the goblins left before the dwarven caravan is scheduled to arrive.

16th Timber, 1058, Late Autumn

Just a few days after the siege ended and the caravan has already arrived. The diplomat came with them and they have all made it safely inside the fortress. I shall deal with the diplomat later. At the moment, there is something else that concerns. Shortly after the caravan arrived, another visitor was spotted down on the beach. Oddly enough, it was a human.

...she's just standing there. It's really weird. I have no idea why she is here or what she plans to do. It's very odd. Maybe it's a human custom to stare blankly at the ground for several days before visiting foreign territory?

18th Timber, 1058, Late Autumn

With nothing better to do at the moment, I decided to meet with the outpost liaison earlier than I normally do. She was nice and polite, as I expected. She didn't seem to know anything about the recent goblin invasion, and I certainly wasn't going to bring it up.

She informed me that Reveredtour has attained even higher status! This is wonderful! I can hardly believe that our humble little fort is getting such recognition! I couldn't be more ha-

What.

Uh no. This can't be right. The goblins already left...it must just be some small force of stragglers-

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!?!

20th Timber, 1058, Late Autumn

Those damn goblins tricked us! They knew if they pretended to leave I would unlock the fortress! They knew we would lower our guard! They were just getting ready to send in another wave!

I'm a fool to not have seen this coming...at the very least work outside hadn't picked up yet so all the civilians made it inside. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of our military. The Chambers of Alechmy, the new squad I formed to replace the one wiped out last siege, was outside gathering equipment when the goblins showed up. I gave the order for them to come back in, but it was to late...

Fletches found himself in the middle of a troll squad. The brutes surrounded him quickly, and with no one to support him he had no chance of surviving the onslaught. They tore him limb from limb, and then beat him to death with those limbs.

IyaerP was slaughtered by beak dogs. He tried to fight back, but against such overwhelming numbers he could do little but flail helplessly before being slain.

Commander Ynotgriff didn't even get a chance to retaliate. She was spotted by a crossbow squad and was shot to death in mere seconds.

Then there was Haza. I thought she might make it, since she was the closest to the fort. The goblins wouldn't allow that though. A squad of swordsmen caught her only a few yards from the bridge.

It was a complete slaughter, again. To make matters even worse, this is another squad that has been completely annihilated by the goblins.

How can we fight back when they kill our recruits before they even learn how to swing an axe properly?
24th Timber, 1058, Autumn

Dammit, I knew this would happen. Some hauler named Rembrand got shot whilst crossing through the path to Bunker Hill. You know, the kind of situation I was worried would occur during the last siege. Which is why I dug out the new road and told everyone to use that instead but NOOOOOO genius here just had to take the slightly quicker route and now he has bits of iron sticking out his lungs.

Oh my, that was incredibly rude. I need to stay calm. Okay...so yeah, that poor hauler got himself shot. I can't really send anyone else to help him, since they'll get shot. Really there's only one thing to do...

I have to make sure nobody repeats his mistake. I'm covering up the old road.

26th Timber, 1058, Late Autumn

I've finished meeting with the liaison. All things considered it went fairly well. The goblins put a damper on her mood though, for obvious reasons. I hope she doesn't write a negative report regarding Reveredtour's defenses.

Well there's nothing I can really do about that. I must turn my attention to other matters. Namely, our human visitor. She stopped staring at the ground long enough to run into the fort before the goblins arrived. The thing that's really strange about her is that she doesn't appear to be some random human. She claims to be the human law-giver.

Law-givers hold very important positions in human society. This is why I find it odd that she came out here to Reveredtour alone. What could she possibly intend to do here? Does she want to meet with me? About what? Oh, I hope it's not about the human caravans that have gone missing here. That would be really awkward.

29th Timber, 1058, Late Autumn

After meeting with our own diplomat, I figured it was time to see what this human wanted. However she found me first, bursting into my office while I was feeding Ingiz.

She had a very stern expression, and an sense of urgency in her voice. I could tell this was not going to be a pleasant conversation.

However...she didn't say anything. She said that one bit and then she just stared at me for what seemed like an hour. I have no idea why. About half way through she threw out what I think was a vague compliment about our fortress design, but that's it.

And then she left. That's it. Her visit was entirely pointless. Oh and she really did leave the fortress entirely. The farmers saw her marching off into the crypt. What the hell is going on here?

Man, those goblins are tricky bastards.

That diplomat certainly was strange though. Do they usually do stuff like that?

I don't suppose you can put me in, but named Twilight Sparkle instead?

Also, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY did I have to catch up to the current part? Why couldn't it be going further?
