Over the top?

Also I am suprised they do not ask the community to write one for them to include as the one they have now ... frankly is shit and made me almost not want to play the game. They should do what some indie music bands do and let people donate what they think it is worth when they get it but that does not turn out well.

Has anyone else read that in think it was a huge new york times artice about them? They live for under a grand a year apparently but I am not sure if that is even possible.

A good tutorial for this game could make the game more approachable, make the game marketable and make complex games like this one profitable.

If there is profit seen in good, complex games then there will be more of them. That's the way of things.
How is this relevant to what I just said? Toady doesn't care about Dwarf Fortress being profitable. He could have marketed it, but declined the offer. He could work on making the game more accessible, but then he wouldn't have time to work on the stuff he wants to. In the far distant future maybe we'll see a more accessible Dwarf Fortress marketed to the masses, but Toady has no interest in that right now. He's focusing on adding new features to the game. It isn't even close to being out of alpha in his opinion, and this is after 7 years of work.

Not wanting to get into Dwarf Fortress becuase it's so god damn obscure is perfectly understandable. Complaining about it is kind of pointless though.

Toady doesn't live under a grand a year, that's just insane. However, his living standards are pretty low which is how he manages to sustain himself on donations alone.

I think what he meant is that if people see toady making tons of money of DF then they will want to make complex games aswell making the type more popular.

Personally I would like him to work on the gui but before any one complains I have read all the but he is working on what he wants to and it would be a long and major task. I just think that a game that needs a 5 thousand word tutorial on how to get set up is taking it a bit too far. Imagine if cod had a 2000 thousand word tutorial on how to shot your gun would it be even remotely as popular?

Also I was quoting of memory it was probably more but I have a terrible memory. I think that it is great that he lives of donations alone but it must have been rough before the SA LPs made his game so much more popular.

You don't want to know what "Over the top" means then ;)
I keep thinking about this and trying to picture it but always come up completely blank...

Being that its root, I wouldn't be surprised by anything she does.... poor Aidinthel... at least you just had a kid so the odds of you having another and me being it, are thankfully low....

Now krakens totally gonna hold my name back till root has a kid or something :<

How ridonculous. =P

Also give me a long sword if you have one kicking around please. Or a whip. Whips are good. The most ninja weapon you have lying around basically. =D

This is Root she does not care she pops them out faster than anyone can count. What are we up to 5? How about we give you a soap stick? Is that ninja enough?

Also I need to stop abusing the question mark?

You rule!
I love Terry Pratchett refrences. But who needs headology when you have headbuttology?

Also we need to give her a leather handbag.

In case you guys can't get enough of Dwarf Fortress LPs, the users of Something Awful are starting another one [http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3445758]. In case you didn't know, that's where all the good Dwarf Fortress LPs (and good Lps in general really) come from. It also features the creatures I modded into the game, among other stuff.

It worries me sometimes that's how people see me.

Then again it's no worse than some of the other people I've been. :)

I just imagine you as a one armed 20 foot ogre giving birth constantly and ripping arms of everyone.

Also can you ask to have a dwarf named after me in the SA topic Kraken? I do not have a account.

As the SA LP just came up I figured I'd ask. Are we going to see any of those custom creatures that were requested for it show up in this LP?

I think FemRoot is only about 4 foot tall. Kraken can say for sure. And she's more about stabbing than ripping. I'm just hoping she's taken to wearing some armour as well as the blood soaked wedding dress.

So given the record of DF LPs to draw in members, anyone else think the timing on Something Awful making their forums member only again is just way too good to be a coincidence? >.<

Well they know their DF LP are the biggest thing on the forum so they always do it at the start of them. If only I was not so cheap :(.
