Lets talk about Girls that play video games

Well, the people who are sexist, racist, homophobic and elitist, ruin the image of gaming for everyone, be it outsiders or females or whatever. They're that way to everyone, not just women. They're too caught up in their immaturity to realise that men are meant to impress women if they ever hope to reproduce with them. If they can't see past their blind gamer rage, they'll never grow up, and if they never grow up, they'll never get the girl.

At least that's how it would go in a perfect world. To think that any of these losers DO get the girl, is worse than an eldritch abomination.

One point that I want to throw out is that I'm relatively sure that people who make those comments and people that would love a gaming significant other are mutually exclusive.

The former most likely still being at the stage where putting their dick into anything with a pulse would be a new experience.

If you happen to know much about Rooster Teeth productions, then you might know who Griffon Ramsey is. I personally see her love of gaming, the amount of cool things she does that are related to it, her relationship with her friends and coworkers in a gaming centralized company, and ultimately how little her gender even registers amongst all this stuff as the standard that gamers as a group need to aim for.

I've just pulled my third all nighter in a row, so I hope this is as eloquent as I seem to think it is right now.

Yep, that made sense. And yes, I do follow RT (well I try to at least) and I know of Griff. The womens of RT are all really chill people and are gamers just like the guys are; their gender doesn't enter the equation at all. They celebrate their girl gamer-ness on occasion, but never to the extent as what would be considered "being an attention whore".

Yeah, I think the closest they came to that was pyjamachievements, and that was just good fun.

See, I don't get this. Yes, there are female gamers out there who make overly obvious the fact that they're female and play videogames, but so what? Perhaps that says something about their personality, and their attitude is not exclusive to just videogames?
If you find their behaviour to be obnoxious, then simply ignore them, and move on, just as you would with any person you consider to be obnoxious. It's a non-issue.

You don't need to identify as a male gamer because people will automatically assume that's what you are when you say `gamer`, which is why I say I am a `girl gamer`. What is the big deal.

It should. But it doesn't.
People say gamer- they think dude. It just happens. You are male til proven otherwise.

But I think no matter how I explain, dudes are still going to have a problem with female gamers self-identifying as such.
People need to get the hell over it. If you're mad at someone for just identifying who they are, the problem is not with them.

Why we needed a thread about `aren't these type of women awful!` when women have enough trouble getting respected in this community already.

So let me ask this question, then: Why is it that members of this hobby pounce so hard on any imagined sign of girl immaturity yet will tolerate or brush off or ignore immaturity when it comes from boys?

Threads like this, where we look at the girl gamer like she's some form of rare frickin' gazelle doesn't make people think "Well those guys are well adjusted and sexually unrepressed. Why are we setting girl gamers apart from everyone else again? I don't care if some doesn't have a penis, they can play videogames so long as they don't teamkill me and know what to do without constant handholding.

Whenever I'm in a game lobby and a girl joins, I tend to start muting people. It's the way the focus shifts that bothers me, the idea that every male present hears a soft, higher-pitched voice and automatically reverts to a caveman-like state.

It's sad. I weep for my gender.

I'm a hetero male gamer. OF COURSE I'm naturally attracted to girls who play games. It would be weird if I wasn't. It's not because I see them as mythical, rare creatures or sex objects. It's because when a girl takes as much time as you do to appreciate and be part of something, to sink money into and dedicate hours to one particular hobby you're both crazy about... that's awesome, that's sexy. It makes my heart gallop knowing somewhere out there is a girl my age who has a similar game library and is probably my equal or better at hunter pouncing in L4D.

I dont understand that, the only people I see giving guys crap about wanting a girl who games is usually other dudes.

Just got out of a TF2 game where one girl on BLU was using a mic, and one guy on RED was saying how she had a sexy voice and if she wanted to be his TF2 girlfriend...

Afterwards he said he was kidding, but it was mad awkward.

Makes me wonder how many men do the fawning and sexism stuff in jest but just never say so.
