simple fact is there is literally a (mostly female it has to be said) gamer uniform atm and i've seen that for myself as i visit Gamestation 3 times a week and right now, because its the UK school summer holidays, the place is crawling with them.
I'm not sure what your point is with this. Nerdy people look stereotypical?
Lady nerds dress a certain way?
I'll totally put my hand up to the bizzarre hair colour thing though. My hair was purple once-upon-a-time. *sigh*... Purple hair.

-- Also, (this bit is not specifically directed at you), I've never met a bloke who thought everyone was out to impress him that was actually worth impressing.
Ladies do what they like.

I have to say...

I even like the cat ear thing. I would walk around with cat ears on if I was younger. Because cats are awesome.

I don't care if the person/s i'm playing with are guys, girls, mutants or aliens, literally couldn't give two shits I'd treat them the same as each other.

However I do so very much hate it when a female plays a game and wants to be treated the same way as everyone else but then goes out of her way to label herself as being different because she's a 'girl gamer' fuck off with that hypocritical bs, you're not going to be treat equally if you keep labelling yourself as anything other than a 'gamer' as 'gamer' encompasses everyone, it isn't a word that is specific to guys it can mean anyone/thing that plays games. Either call yourself a gamer or just shut up and stop trying to be special, and then perhaps you'll get equal treatment, although probably not because there are just too many 'hurpa durpa a girl playing a game' type gamers these days.

Let me introduce you to <url=http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/sc2-international/players/4571_Scarlett>Acer.Scarlett, a professional SC2 player who did alright at IPL4. She even managed to beat <url=http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/sc2-international/players/1589_DeMusliM>EG.DeMusliM, who is no slouch. He's not the greatest player in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm pretty sure that she's the first female pro gamer to make it to a major tournament. She even won herself a minor tournament just to get invited to IPL4.

I've seen her play, and she is pretty good.
I remember that quote from that sexist Bakhtanians way back when:
You can?t. You can?t because they?re one and the same thing. This is a community that?s, you know, 15 or 20 years old, and the sexual harassment is part of a culture, and if you remove that from the fighting game community, it?s not the fighting game community--it?s StarCraft
Never made me happier to be a diehard Starcraft player.
Scarlett is, for lack of a better word, a gamer's wet dream. Especially a Starcraft nerd.
She got to where she is now, invited to Acer by Nerchio himself because of how good she is at Starcraft, despite being a girl. Some of the people in this thread probably think I am a vicious sexist, but I don't really give a fuck. It is accurate to say how male dominating Starcraft is, because it is one of the first video games to get a big eSports following, and that is huge. During all the years that Starcraft has been an eSport, it has been 99.99% guys; the players, the casters, the announcers, the interviewers, etc. etc.

For anyone not in touch with the Starcraft community, you cannot realize how big it is for Scarlet to get into big tournaments or pro teams. Especially getting invited by Nerchio himself, a very high ranking player.

I have a serious case of permanent-bitchface, so I couldn't pull off cat ears. I would look like I was being forced to wear them.
If I had a face that wasn't so naturally grumpy looking I would consider it.

I don't have a problem with the rest of what you said. But did you really mean that to sound like

'Because girls are naturally poor at starcraft.' I mean I don't think we have a biological deficiency when comes to playing Starcraft I have to say.

If I was wrong with how you meant it please say.

I have found that a woolen cat ear hat in winter is borderline acceptable. Although my mother does frown at me.

My brother and I got our Dad a Black T-Shirt for his birthday one year that says "I beat the Mother Brain" with the original Metroid art on it. It seemed fitting, because he was the first in our house to do so.

He's turning 70 this year. Still loves that shirt.
that sounds like a sick ass T shirt

the reason I like my gaming T shirts so much is finding one in womens fit is like finding a power up in metroid

and I mean ones that don't have retardedly obnoxious phrases on them

Oh WHOOOOOO it ain't the Escapist without yet ANOTHER one of these threads.

Just for discussion, I don't care about what gender you are. And yes, gaming is a predominately male centered audience, so the female that comes by is sure to get noticed. But honestly, I don't care. Not one bit.
I really really don't want it to turn into "another one of those threads" =|
I know it will probably turn into one, but I REALLY hope it doesn't...
Well it will because this is the third one this week and introduces nothing new to the discussion.

---------------------

Plain-and-simple, I suck dicks but I don't say I'm a gay-gamer. Just deal with it is all I can say, Gaming is so 20s straight male centric that of course chicks are going to be hounded on but why in the hell can't gaming change? Well because its 20s straight male centered, thats why.

I think we can solve this and possibly find true world peace by:
using the term "guy gamer". Distinguish yourselves!

Anyway... Recently while playing Diablo 3 with a friend and his cousins, one of them kept calling me dude and man. And my friend told me "tell him you're a lady." And I honestly didn't know if I should. Because the "girl gamer" topic is so hot, I didn't want to fall into the "I MUST DECLARE MY GENDER IMMEDIATELY!" stereotype. But it was kind of funny that I knew for sure he thought I was a guy and I was not. So am I lying by omission then? What is going on? Why isn't this as simple as it should be?

People, especially in MMORPGS, tend to get pissed if they believe you have been masquerading as a different gender and suddenly tell them you're the opposite of what they have believed for possibly months/years. So you can't really not say it. But some people will stereotype you and think you're crying out for attention if you clarify.

I think you just can't please everyone.

No, I didn't mean it like how you took it. Not even slightly. I even went on to explain what I meant. If you want to think I said "Girls are bad at Starcraft because they are shit at multitasking, can't control a base while attacking their enemy, and can't control individual units in the middle of an engagement to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses", then go right ahead.
I didn't say it and didn't even imply it.

So please just re-read what I said in the post that you quote mined, my reasoning to back up "despite being a girl" is there and I don't feel like stating it again.

This thread officially has the greatest density of "Oh look, its that thread again / Not this thread again..." on The Escapist.
Even "Why do people like MLP:FiM?" threads don't have a density as high as this.

You know who calls themselves a Girl Gamer?

Shameless attention whores who like it when guys shit all over themselves in the rush to get at the rare "girl who plays video games"... and haven't played a video game more hardcore than Words with Friends. The kind of girls who think it's some novel thing, that playing video games makes them some sort of rare butterfly to be preserved and cared for.
You get an honorary internets for getting the point that I was trying to make (I think you're the first in this whole fucking thread).
Internets winnar, please make your way off the arena and rest. You've EARNED it!
