The top comment is as follows:
<quote=Eumenorrhea>If a guy did a similar video no one would give a flying fuck about their gaming setup, whether they built it themselves or what fucking pictures they drew and put on their wall above it. The only reason people watch this and give a shit is because she has breasts and she knows it. And this is why I have no respect for anyone who calls themselves "girl gamers". It's something you label yourself to get ALOT of male attention.
And I have to agree with what this guy. Most of my experience with female gamers involve them shouting from the tallest mountain "HEY. I AM A GIRL THAT PLAYS GAMES. ISN'T THAT THE SEXIEST THING EVER?!", and it is really annoying. When I played WoW, some female members didn't get as much flak for fucking up, as the guys did. Even when I play CoD or Halo and a girl on one team is doing poorly, most of the people will either say "its ok, you're a girl" or just continue flirting with her; thats right continue flirting -_-
Really, you agree with him? Why do you agree with him? The girl draws barely
any attention to the fact that she is female...we only see her face, and the catalyst for the video was "a bunch of people asked to see my gaming setup", so she obliged. The popularity of her video (whatever that may be, I didn't check) has nothing to do with the girl herself - if a bunch of guys choose to go and watch her describe her gaming setup, then that is
their prerogative. She shouldn't be attacked for it, because that makes no sense.
That guy you're quoting is, more or less, a reactionary prick. I can understand being annoyed at girls who actively try and draw attention to themselves by pointing out they play video games, but I think the example you gave is a poor one. It's as though "Eumenorrhea" is responding to a completely different video.
The fact is, he found a video of an attractive girl, and
immediately, without hesitation, sexualized what she was doing. To him, and to countless other males (such as yourself, apparently), what she is doing has absolutely nothing to do with gaming - it has to do with sex. The subject of gaming is apparently a red herring which is simply being used by her as a means to garner male attention, because men have an
extremely difficult time understanding or placing females (particularly attractive ones) outside of a sexual realm. When you actually look at the video, you'll realise there's absolutely nothing sexual or out of the ordinary about what she's doing. She's sharing her gaming setup because people asked her about it. What's the problem with that?
The fact that this issue with "girls and video games" is brought up
so frequently seems to be symptomatic of broader issues inherent in male-female relations, as well as some profound sexual immaturity present in the gaming community. Yes, girls drawing attention to themselves by pointing out they're gamers can be annoying (I guess... I don't care, so I have a hard time understanding what the fuss is about, honestly), but this issue wouldn't be discussed anywhere near as much if guys could simply grow the fuck up and get a handle on their hormones.
