My wife is a girl who also happens to be a gamer.

She gets attention due to her breasts ... but only from me ... because I like her breasts ... and i'm a perv.

Sad to admit that she's also better than me at some games .... except SF2 which she has never beat me on .... or Gran Turismo 3. But I can't seem to beat her at any other racing game or sodding sports games.

Surely this is a troll topic.(?) The 'Girl Gamer' hate topic is 2-3 years out of date.

There is nothing wrong with the video you've linked. Male gaming v-loggers do plenty of videos just like that for the interest of any of their fans who're keen to know or who make requests; or just for the sake of the developing their relationship with their followers a little. Darksydephil, for example.

The quoted comment just amounts to misogynistic abuse.

I have no bias against 'girl gamers' as opposed to players who happen to be women and just keep quiet and get on with playing. If anything, 'girl gamers' can be more pleasant by way of a warm and bubbly demeanor. Neither is any more or less deserving of my respect.

All Razer? Lies, that is a Logitech camera on top of her monitor.

On a serious note, yes I have a good friend that is shall we say, hot. She is quite popular online, and I for one believe this mostly to be the fact that she is seen as approachable. She is a geek that other geeks can get along with without being such as geek that she only attracts a small core group of people.

There you have it. Attractive people being approachable to a large number of people. It happens with guys as well, you probably just don't notice because your penis doesn't steer you towards their videos/blogs/whatever.

That's why I deliberately chose my PSN to not reflect any gender at all, and don't have a mic. It's so unfortunate that girls still aren't taken seriously in the gaming community, and are considered a commodity. If I do see any girl gamer tags, I don't instantly hate them - it's stupid attacking one group for differentiating themselves from the majority when that majority never have to worry about the same sort of thing. The are many IDs that use 'dude' or 'man' or 'guy', but that's never an issue because gaming is universally considered a mostly male oriented hobby. But because girls aren't, apparently, then as soon as they call attention to their difference they get shut down. Isn't that a little unfair?

They never bother me anyway, so I'm not bothered by it at all. It's only irritating when I get called 'dude' a lot by other gamers. Now, those girls on YouTube that deliberately reply to gaming videos with a pointless 30 second video talking about the game, which they clearly know nothing about, while wearing a revealing shirt? There's your problem.

Oh WHOOOOOO it ain't the Escapist without yet ANOTHER one of these threads.

Just for discussion, I don't care about what gender you are. And yes, gaming is a predominately male centered audience, so the female that comes by is sure to get noticed. But honestly, I don't care. Not one bit.
I really really don't want it to turn into "another one of those threads" =|
I know it will probably turn into one, but I REALLY hope it doesn't...
Is there a counterpoint that someone will credibly make? Will someone come out of the woodwork and tell us how girl gamers should be singled out and placed on pedestals?

I don't want to sound too much like an asshole, but I think that we all agree and that not much will come of this thread past slightly different spins on agreeing. Thus, as this is a forum of argumentative people, what's left to argue about but gender!

Therefore, new topic of discussion: HBO's television series Girls. I don't think it's very good! Is it because I'm a male and thus unable to connect to the female leads or is it because I have a brain cell and am thus unable to connect with female leads who ruin their lives through being relentlessly selfish and sexually harassing their employers? Has anyone even seen this show? I don't recommend it!

My fiancee worked at Gamestop, and was hit on all the time. She enjoys games as much as I do, but simply thinks of it as a pastime, not a lifestyle she has to impress people with via swag and advertising herself as p***y that can play COD with you.

One cant help but be jealous of "nerd girls". Even if they aren't attractive, all they have to do is walk into a comic shop of a gaming place and every guy gets on his knees for them because they are so female starved. Why inst there a female equivalent of the comic shop, where any guy can walk in and have all the girls fighting over him?

Well.. I admit. There have been several times that I have watched a usually uninteresting video because it has an attractive female in it. I don't know why, I guess I'm just guilty of that like a lot of other males are. Eh.

As for the whole female gamer thing. I really see it as a non-issue. Anyone can play games if they wish, it makes absolutely no difference to me. It's like listening to a certain genre of music - it's a personal thing, not a gender thing.

I have no problem with girl gamers. Gamers are just people in my mind. I personally don't see a gender when I think of people who game. Now, girls who draw a lot of attention to the fact that, hey they have two X chromosomes...it's bit over the top. But that's just the same as bro gamers in my opinion

Case and point:
<youtube=mILjXYbQupw>

The top comment is as follows:
<quote=Eumenorrhea>If a guy did a similar video no one would give a flying fuck about their gaming setup, whether they built it themselves or what fucking pictures they drew and put on their wall above it. The only reason people watch this and give a shit is because she has breasts and she knows it. And this is why I have no respect for anyone who calls themselves "girl gamers". It's something you label yourself to get ALOT of male attention.
And I have to agree with what this guy. Most of my experience with female gamers involve them shouting from the tallest mountain "HEY. I AM A GIRL THAT PLAYS GAMES. ISN'T THAT THE SEXIEST THING EVER?!", and it is really annoying. When I played WoW, some female members didn't get as much flak for fucking up, as the guys did. Even when I play CoD or Halo and a girl on one team is doing poorly, most of the people will either say "its ok, you're a girl" or just continue flirting with her; thats right continue flirting -_-
Really, you agree with him? Why do you agree with him? The girl draws barely any attention to the fact that she is female...we only see her face, and the catalyst for the video was "a bunch of people asked to see my gaming setup", so she obliged. The popularity of her video (whatever that may be, I didn't check) has nothing to do with the girl herself - if a bunch of guys choose to go and watch her describe her gaming setup, then that is their prerogative. She shouldn't be attacked for it, because that makes no sense.

That guy you're quoting is, more or less, a reactionary prick. I can understand being annoyed at girls who actively try and draw attention to themselves by pointing out they play video games, but I think the example you gave is a poor one. It's as though "Eumenorrhea" is responding to a completely different video.

The fact is, he found a video of an attractive girl, and immediately, without hesitation, sexualized what she was doing. To him, and to countless other males (such as yourself, apparently), what she is doing has absolutely nothing to do with gaming - it has to do with sex. The subject of gaming is apparently a red herring which is simply being used by her as a means to garner male attention, because men have an extremely difficult time understanding or placing females (particularly attractive ones) outside of a sexual realm. When you actually look at the video, you'll realise there's absolutely nothing sexual or out of the ordinary about what she's doing. She's sharing her gaming setup because people asked her about it. What's the problem with that?

The fact that this issue with "girls and video games" is brought up so frequently seems to be symptomatic of broader issues inherent in male-female relations, as well as some profound sexual immaturity present in the gaming community. Yes, girls drawing attention to themselves by pointing out they're gamers can be annoying (I guess... I don't care, so I have a hard time understanding what the fuss is about, honestly), but this issue wouldn't be discussed anywhere near as much if guys could simply grow the fuck up and get a handle on their hormones.

Because that's what guys call girls that game so I don't know why they can call me a girl gamer but I can't. I am a girl that plays videogames, whoop de flippen do. If someone asks for my gender I usually tell them I'm a gay trap. Everyone knows there aren't any girls on the internet.

It's because they're kids, and this is the kind of stupid shit that kids do. This should be pretty obvious.

I've never been treated any differently when I go to the comicook store or EB games...I think people over estimate how much gender really matters

only thing that ever happned to me was I've been asked a couple of times "is this for you?" thats it

honestly...who does think of it as a lifestyle? aside from the hardcore 24/7 MMO players I don't see how it is or should be a lifestyle
