I like Shane Black's movies and I like his scripts (what I've seen, anyway.)

So I'm actually hoping this will be an improvement on the series.

I'm amazed that I'm the only person I've seen to point out that the Red-White-and-Blue armor is OBVIOUSLY Firepower. Seriously, I feel like the kids in South Park when the adults are all doing something incomprehensibly stupid and won't listen.
It's Rhodes wearing the Iron Patriot armor as an upgraded War Machine suit. Where do you get Firepower from?

When the Mandarin removes his hood he isn't wearing his rings... production error or notable point? Hmmmm...

Additionally, they'll skirt around the whole "We're racist for calling him the Mandarin" thing by doing what they always do with character names in the new movies:

Iron man: Ironmonger says "We're ironmongers, you and I"
Hulk: Having turned Blonsky into the Abomination, Sterns says "It's an abomination!"

Backhand references to the actual comic book character names that only fans will understand

They'll have someone, off the cuff, refer to the Mandarin as "that Mandarin bastard!", etc, to perhaps be dismissed by another character as racism, but in either case glossed over. That being said, I like it done this way, so I'm not complaining... just pointing out that that's how they might get around offending the Chinese

Wasn't there an infamous Iron Man comic where the suit's AI went insane and ended up committing suicide? Also, didn't the film's suit also have an AI? I'm pretty sure it had a very advanced AI in all 3 films. Strange Bob is omitting something so obvious. Maybe he doesn't even want to consider the worst case scenario.
Yes, there's an Iron Man comic wherein the suit gets an AI, falls in love with Tony, and tries to commit a murder-suicide on/with Stark. No, it doesn't make any more sense with context.

As for the movie's AI, that's a bit more complicated. The AI in the movies is simply Jarvis re-imagined. It's not a suit AI so much as it is "Tony's personal assistant/butler, who just happens to be able to connect to the suit". It's possible that JARVIS could be turned against Stark, but it's highly unlikely. It's more likely, judging by what we've seen here, that either Bob is correct or it's someone who managed to steal the suit.

I can only hope the Mandarin's first line is "I've gotta change my shirt, it's sticking to me. I'm sweating like a ****". Or at least "Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes, Rowntree, like the sweeties, yes yes yes yes" that would give me such a grin.

All they would really have to do is add a Chinese Shield agent to the plot and then establish a link between the Mandarin and the nineteenth century Imperial Chinese government. They could take exactly the same sort of liberties with history as the Stargate franchise did with Ancient Egyptian history.

I'm a bit hesitant about this movie. The first one was fun. (I still call it to this day one of the best comic-book movies ever made.)

The second one...meh, it felt like a warm re-hash of the first one.

The Avengers? They should have just skipped that and went straight to this.

So now, we're here. Looks like "Serious Bidness, Y'all". Could go either way, particularly with the Extremis plot being, well, kinda ridiculous (yes, yes, I know, of all things to pick on...). But, on the other hand, RDJ is really a good actor, and frankly, the entire series probably would have fallen apart had they gotten anyone else to play him (Hollywood is full of full-on douchebags and full-on "nice guys", but nobody seems to have a handle on both quite the way RDJ does).

So, I'm in. Hell, I knew I'd hate The Avengers and I saw that. How much worse could this be?

"There are two immediate explanations for this: Either a villain can take control of the armor remotely; or "Iron Man" the mechanical suit, now infused partially with human intelligence, is acting as a separate entity from "Tony Stark" the human being. "

Or, possibility 3, it was a dream Stark had where the suit looming over Pepper represents his fear that "Iron Man" may put those that he cares for at risk.

I know every trailer these days rips off Inception, Transformers, and The Dark Knight, but this one really makes Iron Man 3 look overly grim and dark. The "Avengers" universe movies to this point have been fairly light and fun with some serious themes sprinked in to give some depth. I hope they don't dump the fun aspects of Tony just because dark is what's in.

Hmmm, well to be honest I think the classic Mandarin would have worked perfectly nowadays, better than it would have a couple of decades ago even. Like it or not rising tensions between the US tensions are at an all time high, and Chinese anti-western racism is becoming a BIG deal. I understand the political/financial concerns, but to be honest I kind of think seeing that would be a good thing for both the US and especially for China, perhaps forcing a bit of self-realization.

Overall The Mandarin's basic goal is pretty similar to the KKK or the Nazis, except instead of wanting white people to dominate everything, he wants Asians to do it. Pretty much a stock villain, and I see no reason why that's a problem, and why it's "backwards" to have a pro-asian racist but not to show a pro-white racist when your creating bad guys.

That said, it will probably be interesting, *most* of the recent Marvel movies have been good. Even the less than sterling ones like the Ghost Rider sequel had a lot of potential shining through. With a proven cast and a big budget I can't see Iron Man turning out badly.

Also, since they are already doing sequels for the various individual heroes in "The Avengers" as well as a sequel to "Avengers" itself, it wouldn't surprise me if they did have some of the characters cross in and out of each other's movie sequels briefly. They seem to be experimenting with shared continuity, and they might very well try and do things in a very comic-like format that way.

If they don't call him "The Mandarin" it's gonna be a sad day for the 9th Art... It's not a slur or anything, the bad guy just goes by that name. Grow up world.
The world doesn't seem to be aware that these villains actually existed before the movies, hence the Rush Limbaugh Bane craziness.

Ya Rush, seems legit.

What do the movie crews behind Iron Man have against his house? In like every movie it gets trashed. And why would he be at his house, doesn't he have Stark Tower? I mean, if he can keep rebuilding his house every other day, surly he can rebuild his big, important tower.
Because it's going to become the Avengers' HQ.

I kindof thought the suit grabbing Pepper was a dream. ie. Stark having a nightmare about his monstrous creations hurting the one (and one might be a quite apt description) he loves. Maybe...

I´m having a hard time getting hyped over this trailer, i think i´m just starting to get burned out on superhero movies. Getting a bit too much at this point, so can´t really imagine that i would go see any of these anytime soon. Hopefully Hollywood will start making good action movies again that isn´t superhero movies, because they got that going for them, they are defineately more entertaining than your average Transformers or Pirate movies.

But yeah, getting a bit tired of the formula. :/ Perhaps it will change when this starts playing in the cinemas.

Is this dude serious? Also what is the point of repeating that Obama voiceclip? I'm not really sure what he's trying to say to be honest.

I find it highly unlikely that the Mandarin being portrayed as an Anti-Western racist Chinese national (a hard ask when played by Sir Ben Kingsley), is going to make the 1.3 billion Chinese suddenly take a good hard look at themselves and the way they treat others.

I'm not debating that it would help, I just think that imagining Iron Man 3 will be the starting gun on the subject to be absurd.

Moving on, as for the whole 'WTF, Terrorist Mandarin'.....well, isn't that sort of what he and most supervillains are anyway? I agree the Mandarin himself should be something a cut above the Osama Bin Laden knock offs from Iron Man but operating through proxy groups like that is a pretty standard way to start stirring shit up.

But it's not though. It's War Machine. It says LT. Col. James Rhodes on the shoulder.

Does anyone else feel like this is a really similar plot to The Dark Knight Rises??

I'm bored with it.

EDIT: Let me elaborate... The Hero, once so cocky and happy and successful, nearly died vanquishing his last foe/challenge. He's having some self esteem issues, worried he won't be able to live a happy life. His conscience is weighing on him. A "terrorist" comes to town, feeling like he's preaching a good message and doing the right thing by challenging the hero. The hero has to face his own fears and re-become himself in order to defeat the enemy.

EDIT 2: It's just the whole "oh, now we deconstruct the legend!" thing. It doesn't feel fresh to me anymore after TDK just happened.

I've been watching the Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated Avengers series (its fucking awesome go watch it) and all its done is make me even more impatient for all the Marvel movies coming. I don't even read comics all that often but god damn is their so much awesome shit to geek out over lol.
I loooove Earths Mightiest Heroes, but they really fucked up the second half of the second season mainly because every episode felt really rushed, and The Hulk was absent for most of the damn season  Seriously, he didnt even get to be in the finale with the Kree, that was utter bullshit. Then the final episode I felt was just really dissapointing, it was something that to me should have had a season or at least a good handful of episodes leading up to it.

OT: Man Im excited for this film, and for Captain America 2, and Thor 2, and The Avengers 2. BUT THERES STILL NO INCREDIBLE HULK 2 BEING PLANNED!! AAAHAHHSDFHDFHDBFSKLHGJSDGHSRIGHSRG

(I like the Hulk if you cant tell)
