A lot of people on here use peer fire transfer. I don't know anybody who hasn't, actually. I don't do it myself, I used to, but do not anymore. I am against that sort of piracy, but this is just too much; this is maddening.

Limewire is down. By court order, the file sharing service is now inactive. You can't use it for anything anymore, not even legitimate means.

I'm sure we all remember that news article about Gene Simmons going to war with Anonymous. Ridiculous, right? Well, Anonymous is still at it. It's all part of a larger operation called Operation Payback. In just about 27 hours (as of this posting), they're going to perform a DDoS attack on the RIAA. Get information on that here:

I'm not saying anyone should get involved with any of this; it's illegal. I am saying that you should be informed about what's going on and make up your own minds. Speaking of your own minds, please speak them. Let's hear your opinions!

Interested to see how the Anon bit goes down though.

It also doesn't show stuff that came up in the last month or so, least not for me...
But yeah, we've had at least two threads and the News post on this already.

And, yeah, it's a shame, but if something's riddled with viruses..it needs policing better.

Limewire is NOT illegal. It is the acts that people did using it that are. Even now it is not illegal to have limewire, there is just an injunction that makes it so the company cannot run it. Programs used for pirating are not illegal, using programs to pirate is illegal. Big difference.

Guess that's a downer for some people.
I don't pirate music or movies anyway so it's not a big deal for me.
I bet there are tons of other similar sites out there that are just as big.

Oh no, not even those who use Limewire for legitimate means will be able to access the service... what are those 3 people ever going to do?

Sorry to hear that, though i never used Limewire. Still, there are plenty more file sharing aplications out there. There's more than one way to skin a cat. ;)

I won't miss it. There are plenty of better, freeer, and less-illegal means of getting music and movies, and I haven't used Limewire since it wrecked the hell out of my last computer. I realize that was my own fault, but that's still kinda aggravating. Good riddance.

People still use Limewire?

And one of the article son this story said it's actually the most widely installed p2p program. What the fuck.

The only problem I could see coming from this is it being a step towards the RIAA getting rid of actually useful p2p programs and methods. This court ruling might give them power to do so. But people will find another way to get things for free. In fact, there already is.

piracy is only illigeal if you claim it as your own work or make money with it without paying royalties

Cool. I actually pay for my music, like a silly person. And I buy A LOT of music.
