According to wikipedia (the one-for-all source ) piracy is a term used to describe copyright infringement, which is:

Copyright infringement is the unauthorized or prohibited use of works under copyright, infringing the copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works.

So while your statement is true, downloading copyrighted material "for private use" (listening to music or playing games) is also piracy if that kind of useage is covered by the original authors' copyright.

Still, shutting down the stores doesn't hinder acquiring and distributing pirated work, just like banning alcohol during the prohibition didn't prevent people who wanted their whiskey to get it somehow.

It's not piracy if it's really old songs....or ambient songs, hell the stuff I listen to I honestly would not know where to look for it, for everything else (mainstream stuff) I just buy at a CD store, like Moby or Scissor Sisters
