You know Just today I bought a game on steam and noticed after it comes with a SecuROM 5 Activation limit...

Now while I hate this stupidity when it comes to steam as it is (well its generally stupid and easy to bypass) Capcom decided to put it on a ?3.99 Game "Dark Void Zero" a 8-Bit De-make....

http://store.steampowered.com/app/45730/

WHAT'S THE DAMNED POINT?!? Even pirates wouldn't worry over a game that cheap! Id Understand more on say Resident Evil 4 or Street Fighter 4... but a ?3.99 Little game (under 100mb)

Do you think Capcom should up and remove the DRM? and what's your thoughts on this limited activation stuff?

Limited activation changes game buying from a purchase to a rental, no matter how much they dress it up. I have games from ages ago that I still play, some of which were put out by publishers who are no longer in business, and if those games had activation-limit DRM they would've been permanently lost to history.

I won't buy a game with excessive DRM. I can simply live without it (although the temptation is always there to buy it then crack it, I don't want the publisher getting the idea that they can get my money with an attitude toward the customer like that.)

Heh, it's just sad that it's needed. To this day I can't play my copy of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory without cracking it. I bought it on release day and couldn't play it for a few days untill StarForce sent me a new key.
Now I have to crack it because 1. the key don't work and 2. the StarForce crap does not work with 64bit. So that's nice.

As for activation limits, I refuse to buy anything that has a limit attached to it. Only game I've bought that has that is the Riddick game I got from Steam. And that was a mistake. I didn't notice the DRM till it was too late.

Sadly it also means that I can't play Crysis. And a bunch of other games. But that's just too bad.

Yea I didn't spot the 3rd Party DRM on the app till after I bought it, but I few others at the Capcom forum to have it patched out because as silly as the DRM is already its almost slapstick comedy to add it to a ?3.99 game just with only Capcom laughing!

Heres a good question for everyone!

if you LEGALLY own the game and the DRM itself isnt letting you play Becuase of Limited activations would you crack it?

Me personally id say yes as they would have no right to stop me playing a game I paid for and I already know how to bypass it fairly easy, now this also kinda may reflect in this game I mentioned above too, as the same day I got it my pc decided to crap out on me >.< thats 1 wasted activation. I Activated it also on another pc I use sometimes so thats 2 and well when I install xp (Im in Ubuntu linux atm) that will be 3 of 5!

It would come down to relying on Capcom to reset my activations if they can be bothered or me cracking it so I can use my legally owned game!

[sub](if anyone wants to see I really do own the game Im mentioning and thinking of cracking when the time comes check my steam game list my steam is on my profile and its Dark Void Zero)[/sub]

DRM has been the difference between purchase, *** ******** for me.

Also, I didn't know you could crack your game off of steam its self... Now I'm interested...

Any who, worst example of silly DR<, minus Ubisoft, ?

Borderlands DLC. The initial game does not have it (yet they fucking PATCHED IT IN AFTER PURCHASE! (it's not "utilized" merely "available" for the DLC. The DLC Has Securom on it. An install limit on DRM for a game you already have. Wow.

Well it involves replacing a file or 2 or using an external program, spose I shouldn't go into detail on how to do it though

The whole DRM scheme is just retarded and all it's doing is punishing the people who buy the actual game. Hopefully these game developers that consider making DRM rules learn from what happened to Ubisoft.

Aye makes me wonder sometimes why I buy games, When I buy I get treated like a criminal and when people Pirate they have an easier time, overwrite a few files and BOOM done!

Amusingly I Chose Steam as my main place to get games to avoid this rubbish, I Dont blame steam for it but yea >.< YOU ARE NOT SAFE FROM THE HORRORS OF DRM!

I still say Steam has enough clout that Valve could say to publishers "Look. If Steam's DRM isn't good enough for you and you insist on making us look bad in the eyes of OUR customers, we will not digitally distribute your game. Hell, we even offer a solution that's worked wonders for anyone who's implemented it. Try Steamworks in your game and make PC gamers love you for the achievements, online multiplayer support, and other value-added features that pirates don't get rather than want to pirate your game."

Steamcloud would be nice if any of my Steam games supported it. I wish they'd give their users some disc space on a server so I could upload my save from a game like Port Royale 2 (which I play a lot of between classes at school) to a server, download the save to my desktop, play it at home, and upload it back so I could play at school.

(yes, I'm aware I could use a flashdrive. But that takes me remembering to bring it with me.)

A DRM system that may either force legitimate users to pay for the game twice, or simply turn them into pirates.
Brilliant.
