Well... the highlight for me was assasins creed 2 which is multiplatform. Still they got a one-up on microsoft for showing gameplay.
I assume each conference will get to show footage of multi-platform games depending on exclusive content - Sony get unlockable content via the PSP - Microsoft got Modern Warefare gameplay and map packs early.CalamusGary said:Well... the highlight for me was assassins creed 2 which is multi platform. I think the topic was the whole motion controls issue. And there, Nintendo has a huge advantage over MS and Sony: they're showing prototypes and by the time we've gotten any Natal/Wand games, the Wii has had plenty of Motion Plus games out (if Wii Sports Resort, The Conduit and Red Steel 2 are any good, not holding out for the last one really.)harhol said:I don't think you can fault Sony on software though... there are dozens of upcoming exclusives compared with Microsoft's handful.KDR_11k said:The prototypes are the problem with Sony and MS's motion controls. They've got prototypes. Wii Motion Plus had those last year, now it's getting retail games. Additional hardware is only an enabler for software, the hardware itself doesn't matter as much as the software that uses it.
sorry, Final Fantasy XVI is PS3 exclusive and Sony was adamant about thatStubee said:This is EXACTLY why im glad i chose xboxAvida said:Oh god what?! AWESOME!!.. But how the hell did they manage to make so much game at once?.. I'm going to have 3 final fantasy games on one console in one year now?Susan Arendt said:AND THEN A FINAL FANTASY XIV VIDEO. That does make sense. It still was the highlight for me. The Last Guardian looked cool but the leak kinda ruined it.D_987 said:I assume each conference will get to show footage of multi-platform games depending on exclusive content - Sony get unlockable content via the PSP - Microsoft got Modern Warefare gameplay and map packs early.CalamusGary said:Well... the highlight for me was assassins creed 2 which is multi platform. Not to start anything here, but weren't Sony adamant about FF13 and the MGS series?Simalacrum said:sorry, Final Fantasy XVI is PS3 exclusive and Sony was adamant about thatStubee said:This is EXACTLY why im glad i chose xboxAvida said:Oh god what?! overall, second half of the conference was waaaay better than first (aka snoozefest) half. Motion control may be an exact rip off of Nintendo, but it seems to work, and well, it was bound to happen anyways.
as I keep on trying to tell people, Sony were adamant about MGS4 ONLY, which has indeed stayed an exclusive (never said anything about upcomming MGS titles). Also, very little was said about FF XIII by Sony before it was announced that it was comming to the 360... nevertheless, I do see where your comming frombad rider said:Not to start anything here, but weren't Sony adamant about FF13 and the MGS series?Simalacrum said:sorry, Final Fantasy XVI is PS3 exclusive and Sony was adamant about thatStubee said:This is EXACTLY why im glad i chose xboxAvida said:Oh god what?! Yeah, I just edited a few things. Don't take that at face value. As with everything I do in a rushed manner, it's probably laden with errors.D_987 said:No... it doesn't have an EX. by it...Woe Is You said:Wait, wait. Madden 10 was a PS3 exclusive? What?
Right - although I don't think EA sports do console exclusives?Maet said:Yeah, I just edited a few things. Don't take that at face value. I think it's mostly accurate now.
Wow, I completely agree on your synopsis and analysis of E3 this year. Sony had amazing titles, Nintendo kept it fresh with the way they are heading the console and some awesome Mario goodness and Microsoft mainly relied on the camera which makes them the weakest by far this E3.Maet said:I'm giving Sony the win. Sure their conference was the most... unfocused (what with all the video montages and the meandering between figures and announcements)... but I think they certainly had the most impressive line-up.

Sony's lineup was certainly the most energetic and, frankly, surprising. I don't even care for the FF series, but I'll be damned if seeing the fourteenth installment so soon didn't blow me away. I also like how they're pushing the PSP, even going so far as to create a Hannah Montana bundle for teenage girls. Sure, it's a cheap jab at a new audience, but at least it's something. ModNation Racers also looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and their work with motion sensing technology is quite impressive. I'm tempted to write it off as a cash in on Nintendo's method, but the future is the future. To coin a phrase from an ancient marketing campaign, "Get N or get out."
Speaking of Nintendo, it's become increasingly clear that they're not only doing their own unique thing, but doing it well enough that nothing else matters. I'm not going to be stupid and say that Nintendo isn't in the current generation console race (they are. Deal with it), but I will say that they're relying on a completely different market. They know that they can toss out a Mario or a Metroid (good call on the latter, by the way) every now and then and effectively sate the die-hards, but their focus is squarely on a new audience. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though. With such a large install base, they're desirable to more developers looking to entertain some new ideas. So while third party exclusive titles highlighted weren't revelations (The Conduit, Dead Space: Extraction, RE: Darkside Chronicles), it paves the way for other third parties to follow suit. I'm also eager to see what Retro is up to since Team Ninja has taken over Metroid. Really, it's just nice to see third parties actually embrace the Wii.
This brings me to Microsoft, which I will admit I thought had the worst offering. Well, maybe that's too strong a word. Aside from Project Natal, the XBLA content, and Alan Wake, all their new games are sequels/new installments in previously well established franchises. Sure they'll make a killing, but it's nothing new. I don't own a 360, and Microsoft hasn't given me a reason to this year. Though I must admit, Shadow Complex looks pretty cool.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts. I'm giving the win to Sony this year.
[sub]This post was longer than I had intended it to be.[/sub]
That's pretty simple - because that way, they wouldn't be left behind in the whole motion control race. Showing off something that is a demo in progress and a prototype is a better showing than nothing at all. Frankly, I'd rather have something that is honest about its potential flaws than something that pseudo works perfectly, and let's not forget Wii Motion Plus has been in development longer than Sony's offering.Donbett1974 said:The PS3 and Wii's motion control was almost the exacted same thing. While the Wii's worked almost perfectly the PS3's was a failure. The demonstrator seem to have trouble using it. In FPS mode it rarely hit anything. So I got say why show it at all if it wasn't reliable.
