Ah yes, the vision cone. I think its useful, maybe even necessary, for good stealth gameplay, but don't think about it for too long or your immersion will shatter. (Like in Deus Ex. The vision cone make stealthing so much easier. But how exactly do his implants tell Jenson where everyone is looking, at all times, even when he is hiding in an air duct?)

so this whole time guards aren't dumb, they are just not alowed to wear their glasses. Tat kinda makes sense why you can be 14 feet in front of them and they'll spot you, but if your 15 feet away you're invisible. You just look like a blurry blob that blends into the rest of the blurry blob they see.

You can only see about 20 feet in front of you - also known as "Metal Gear Solid henchman syndrome" - and there are a lot of things beyond that twenty feet border you need to worry about.

They only take guards who FAIL the vision test- they get less distracted by things, and that's why they have to be so close to the wall to stare at it. And James' character is wearing Danger-Sensitive Sunglasses (TM).

Heaven forfend that games not have guards who patrol bases in easily-predictable patterns... Imagine the gamer-rage that would result if they randomly looked different ways now and again...
