Maybe you'd have a better outlook on Linux if you had used it recently. The hardware support and the user-friendliness have gotten about twenty times better, just in the past year or so.
But generally I agree with this song. I'm an avid Linux user, I think it's the best thing you can find on the internet next to free porn. That said, I am also an `elitist nerdy schmuck' as you put it, and I realize that Linux is not for everyone (yet, but it's definitely moving in that direction). So I fully understand that you wouldn't like it. Most people don't.
Microwaves and Amigas don't crash because they're really fucking simple and they don't do a lot. If you want to do anything with any kind of technology that is even remotely complex (like accessing the internet) then you need something that will inevitably crash at some point. We all wish this weren't true, but it is. There's no way to get around it.
P.S. My microwave crashed today. I don't know what the hell the problem is. But now I can't heat my ramen so I'm sad -.-
