Back when I was in middle/high school, I'd just sit outside and wait for my mom to get home. Now, I can pick locks with a bobby pin and my pocket knife, which are always in my wallet and pocket, respectively.
Well, I've never been locked out of my house but I have been in a similar situation. My power went out for about three days and since it was during the summer and I had nothing to do I read through a lot of my personal library and rediscovered some great books that I had forgotten about.
It's always nice to take a break from technology every once in a while. (Oh the irony of saying these words on an online forum xD )
I was locked out of my house after getting dropped off the bus after school for about three hours until my mom got home. After that I got my own key. We had just moved in so I was not willing to risk the punishment for breaking in somehow.
I've never locked myself out, exactly, but I've been locked out by accident. I was out and my mom didn't realize I didn't have my keys and locked the doors. So I washed my car.
Now it's really hard for me to forget my keys because they're attached to a die-cast model of a Tron: Legacy lightcycle.
I mope outside the door, call my roomies and hope that someone comes home soon. Worst case - I'll go hang out at a friend's for a few hours, but it's a pain getting on the bus and subway, so if it isn't a really long wait I'll probably just sit and read.
