Would have been more impressive to actually be there, since a lot of the switches in camera angles just made the whole thing a bit less of a sceptical in my opinion. Still amazing though 
Ahhh the new year displays, those things that went right by me while I was too busy playing Minecraft and Deadly Premonition.

People complaining about the cost of fireworks? Really??
It comes back 10 fold, let's list a few considerations of the economic benefits of spending money on a public event.
1. The money spent goes mostly back into local pockets. Security, techs, etc.. This is a large part of the cost.
2. Local business revenue. A huge party like this takes people out of their house, gets them to the venue, and they spend money.
3. Tourism, both direct and indirect. People may actually come to your city for the fireworks show/NYE party (See New York or Sydney), but also having your fireworks televised reminds people you are there. It's advertising really, and cities want advertising just as much as anyone else.
It's like the Olympics. No one in their right mind complains about how much the Olympics costs to host. Why? Because it's an investment in your city, and pays off in a multitude of ways.

It could of been much cheaper, decent fireworks don't cost the world and they surely don't cost 1.2 million.
As Tesco's always says "every little helps" and that rings true especially in this economic crisis.

Watched that on Youtube last night. Gotta say that i love how there are basically, 3 river barges with enough explosives on board to make a Navy Aircraft Carrier cry for it's metaphorical mommy! Those are some Bad-ass Barges!
As a member of the upper middle class, shading upper, I can say that WE'D certainly never see the money either. My brothers work from 6 am until 8 or 9 at night, later some days, each week, getting literal days off each year and each pay many tens of thousands in tax that goes towards paying for the Sky TV and Nike trainers of people with no jobs, being fed money by the government.Verlander said:

OT : Beautiful job there, and certainly not a waste of money. New Labour spent catastrophic amounts on pointless bureaucracy, at least blowing the cash on fireworks was something decent fun.
Ours were pretty average.
