and then they say something offensive 'If you play games and are on a nerd site then why arnt you Fat and Lazy?'
then i said 'Why would you think that Gamers and People on the escapist are fat and ugly'?
they said 'Because you play Games'
CONFUSION
Anyway do you think that this is how people look at us?
because i get this reaction alot
You answered your own question.
The fact is: people don't usually question themselves. They trust what they know. When you do, it's called angst because it can very easily make you confused and depressed. What people hear is what they know, so if people hear that gamers are fat, lazy and immature then that is what they believe. That is what people are told because the older generation of gamers doesn't hold much power yet. It will. Within a couple of decades, I can see this prejudice gone, but right now, that's what people think.
[rant] The mainstream media is what people see and what they know. They will go out of their way to learn about what's important and what affects them directly. Games do not affect most people directly, so they mainstream media is where (and as far as) they go. It hasn't painted a good image. The most that games ever become mentioned outside problems caused by them is on the big release days. The next CoD will be mentioned offhand, as will the next WoW release, Crysis 2, Skyrim, the probable Halo revival, and probably Duke Nukem Forever. This paints gamers as people without lives (as we aren't mentioned at any other time), or immature and possibly violent (what with game ads and the demonizing stories). There will be a change, it is visible in the distance, but we must wait for it and deal with the prejudice for the next little while. [/rant]
And yes, I tend not to mention games because everyone outside the community reacts that way.
