Plenty out there. Of the subscription fee games I played City of Heroes the most. If you want something more fantasy try Vanguard (likely one of those that didn't work... my comp chugged when I played it even on the lowest setting...) Or Final Fantasy XI, but really only if you have a few friends who play as well.

Be careful with Ragnarok though. It's decent but some glitch or violation in the program started screwing up my keyboard driver. (Standard Dell wireless Mouse/Keyboard. After I started playing the program for a few hours the set would become inoperable in the current USB. Switched and it occurred again.)

I also would have to begrudgingly say WoW, the others just don't come close.

It would be helpful mikemart, if you mentioned which MMO's that you've tried and what you thought of them.
Or failing that, what RPG's have you enjoyed playing in the past?

Free ones, I played Guild Wars and Neverwinter Nights. I like Neverwinter Nights better, but you still can't beat WoW, in my opinion.

Guild Wars easily, once you've beaten the main stories theirs not much to do except PvP so there not a lot of post-game. On the other hand, its free to play except for a one time payment and the PvP is the best out there.

There are TONS of free to play/download MMOS on the net...it's actually hard NOT to find them...

IF you have to play an MMO, you can't go wrong with WoW or Warhammer Online. Sure, they are subscription based, but they are constantly updated and there are plenty of players out there...

Maybe you should post this on Warcry; They're our sister site, but they're devoted entirely to MMOs.

My vote's for City Of Heroes as well. Completely different from the standard "press the attack button and hit the baddie with a sword every 3.2 seconds".

I've played many MMOs that are free(most of which for an hour or less), and a few I would suggest are Maplestory,Grand Chase(gets better when you get more characters),and.....umm...OK, so those are the only two that I liked......I think...

Really? I played city of heroes or I should I say played the demo and that's exactly what it felt like to me.

Worst of all nobody ever interacted at all.... it wa like a very bad version of a 3D rpg. I played it for 4 hours and was disappointed

Star Wars Galaxy's, its WoW with stormtroopers and spaceships!
People still play Galaxies?

Damn, I thought that would've been shut down by now.

I was pretty pumped about the SWGEMU for the longest time. Years, even? But, that sort of lost steam for me. But, I could see myself playing it if I was playing SWGEMU. But definitely not the actual current retail release.

My main problem was that within the first ten minutes of rolling a character, you were a Jedi and Luke Skywalker's bestest homie.

I liked it better when you actually had to WORK to become a Jedi. Just starting people off as them is...

A bad idea.

I like City of Heroes: the custom character creator is really sweet, and they release big updates every once in a while. Not to mention a new expansion is coming.
