Hi everyone! I have been scouring the internet for pc games that will run on my laptop, but have found much of what I find wanting. I play just about every type of game, so genre isn't to big of an issue (RPGs are my favorites though). What is limiting my selection is the processor in this thing. It is a 1.6ghz. Everything else in the laptop can handle more requirement heavy games, but the processor can't keep up.

I humbly request game suggestions that can run on a 1.6ghz laptop. Currently already have or am working on getting the Fallout series, Arcanum, Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Gothic 2, Arx Fatalis and Morrowind. All RPGs there, but as I said, I am open to just about any genre.

Thank you for your input in advance!

Should also note, I don't have the money to upgrade my system or just get a new computer, so that isn't an option at the current time.

Try Dragon's Nest, it's a free to play mmorpg. It's pretty recent, but from what I've seen of it the game probably isn't that processor intensive (f2pmmos usually aren't since they want as many people to be able to play it as possible).

Also you should of course get the original Deus Ex (visuals haven't aged well, but the game is good).

I'd also recommend the theif series if you can get it to run, and red alert 1 and 2 (the first is freeware now).

There are a ton of good older games on GOG.com, but I can't vouch for the ones I've never played.

Star Control II / The Ur-Quan Masters --> This one's kind of hard to describe. It's like a space exploration, arcade, RPG, adventure game all rolled into one. The dialogue is really great and often very funny. Available on Gog but you can also get it for free.

Baldur's Gate games --> Really good older RPG. You'll probably want to use some kind of widescreen mod. Available on Gog.

Planescape: Torment --> Really good older RPG with amazing story and great characters. Also available on Gog.

Stronghold --> Castle building / Economic sim RTS game that I really, really like. Just checked and this is on Gog too. Man, they have everything!

Civilization series (probably through 4 would run OK if you turn the graphics settings way down. 3 would definitely be fine). These are pretty in depth turn based strategy games. But if you want one of those, I'd probably go with...

Alpha Centauri --> Awesome TBS game from the makers of Civ. Probably my favorite TBS game. Also available on Gog.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 --> RPG / TBS game I had a lot of fun with. On Gog.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head and be scanning Gog.

Looks like you got some good ones there. You also have - Baldurs Gate saga, Temple of Elemental Evil (don't know if you can run that one, but if you can be sure to get the most recent circle of 8 modpack), Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Wizardry 6-8, Ultima 4-7, D&D Gold box games, Might and Magic: World of Xeen, VI: The Mandate of Heaven, VII: For Blood and Honor, Betrayal at Krondor, D&D Dark Sun: the Shattered Lands. You also have great tactical turn based games with some rpg elements like X-Com :Enemy Unknown/Terror From the Deep, Jagged Alliance 2 and Silent Storm also.

A bit of advise, unless you plan to play user created modules or persistent worlds with other ppl on NWN, i would stay away from it. The original campaign sucks (Hordes of the Underdark isn't bad though) and the game is pretty bad as a single player game, as you only control one character with AI henchmen as followers. (it's better enjoyed as a mp game)
I recently got NWN again. (I have lost track of how many times I have purchased that game and lost the disks) Played through all three campaigns the token one time. I keep on going back to the game for the user created modules, as you said, specifically the Penultima series, I can't get enough of it.

Temple of Elemental Evil requires a 700mhz processor, so I am good to run it. I need to try to remember which Might and Magic games I have played all the way through and which I haven't (mind you if they go on a good sale, I do hope to get them all again. I even kind of liked IX).

I like the suggestions so far, most of the other threads on different message boards I have found around the internet seem to consist of several people suggesting Diablo II and Warcraft 3, and nothing else. It is like some eerie world where only Blizzard products exist to them. And a lot better understanding of what a 1.6ghz processor can handle is being displayed here so far as well. The remainder of the threads seem to consist of posts where people respond with something akin to "I think you computer can handle Duke Nukem 3D, but you should check". I have seen this laptop run Oblivion relatively decently, I just don't like to push it that hard.

Shadows of Undrentide is totally worth it for Deekin though.

I can suggest Frozen Synapse which will run on a Netbook.

You've stumbled upon my favorite sphere of computer gaming!
Hmmm.

Dungeon Seige
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Icewind Dale
Rome: Total War
Age of Empires II: Age of Kings
Age of Empires II: The Conquorer's Expansion
Serious Sam, first and second encounter
Age of Mythology
Rise of Nations
Rise of Legends (if ur comp' can handle it)
Empire Earth (1 only)
Call of Duty (first one - great WWI shooter)
Kohan: Immortal Sovreigns
Civilization III
Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast
Sid Meier's Pirats!
Sir Meier's Railroad Tycoon
The Sims
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl

...and more
I have been wanting to play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for quite a while, but whenever I have had a computer that could run it, I have forgotten it's existence. It requires a 2ghz processor, so yet again it is out of my reach.

Some really great games on that list! Been meaning to play Sid Meier's Pirates!, but I had been forgetting it existed (a common occurrence, as evidenced by this post).

Yet again, great suggestions so far. Thank you everyone! Keep them coming! I hope to build a list of games to try and then work on finding demos for them, and buying the games that I like (may skip the demo if they go on a really low priced sale). And it is great to jog my memory with all those games I had wanted to try but my mind decided remembering to try them was less important then useless trivia (I know far too much of it).

First Starcraft+expansion, Warcraft III+expansion.
Monkey. Friggin'. Island. Find it! Also, find a walkthrough, because it uses logic that doesn't exist in the real world.
Just about anything made before '02 or so, really. Just start buying up games on the cheap, if you don't like them, at least you didn't pay more than $20-$30 for them.

Morrowind with mods is a great choice if you love RPG's. There are dozens of enhancements and add-ons to keep you playing for months.

jagged alliance 2 is a classic squad turn based shooter with lots of rpg elements and strategy, graphics are quite bearable too. definately worth a thought, i play it on my sheddy machine all the time. Fallout tactics is also good for the same reason.

Stronghold was totally ace back in the day, im sure that will have weathered quite well (it's not that old really). Thief 2 was good if you like stealthy games and any of the hitman games were equally worth it.

Civilisation...any of them are good (i liked Alpha Centauri aswell, a space clone of civ)

Best part is they should all be cheap nowadays :)

What is the name of your processor, actually? Aside from processors in the same family (and certain extreme cases), it's a myth that the clock rate is any kind of indicator of performance.

Star Wars Knights of the old republic 1 & 2, both are great RPG's and should run without problem on your laptop, only problem might be the OS but there are gamefixes on the internet you can download to play these games on Vista / WIN7

Man just reading the suggestions brings on so much Nostalgia, but to go back even further Doom, Wolfenstein and Duke Nukem 3d. These are the games that, in my opinion really began a genre.
