Now I'm not too sure if this is the right area to discuss this but it seems to be.
I recently bought an xbox 360 and am now looking for more games that I could try but I am not too sure which ones I would enjoy.
Based on some of your preferences I'm going to recommend you "Blue Dragon". The art was done By Akira Toriyama who also did the designs for Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger and it's an Xbox 360 exclusive. It's not a block-buster so nobody else has recommended it, but not every game has to be to be enjoyable. You can get it dirt cheap any old place.
One game I recommend without hesitation is Dead Rising. It was a 360 exclusive and the original can be found used pretty cheap. Save People, Kill zombies, Fight Psychos, Take photos? Yes it's a pretty unique game and probably the game I've played through the most times, hands down.
If you're going to play a Fallout game make it New Vegas. It's a better game after patching than fallout 3 and a lot of fun.
Mass effect and Dragon Age are probably a given, Mass Effect more so I'll say. If you don't play Mass effect One, your Mass Effect Two world is going to be a darker, more depressing place. The default start seems to assume you ignored all the side quests and took the "bad karma" option whenever possible. For instance, an entire race, the Rakni, will be dead if you just start at mass effect 2. And therefor unable to help you in Mass effect 3. And the list goes on and on and on and on... Even quests will be unavailable to you. Such as a quest to help colonists on the world feros. If you start at game number two, it's assumed that you never saved the colonists in mass effect one and they became thralls to a sentient plant and died, so you can't help them buy medicine now in mass effect two because well, they no longer need it. It's some total "it's a wonderful life" stuff there. And it continues onto various characters being alive or dead and even which politicians are in power.
To say nothing of the fact you will be a lot more immersed in what's going on if you start at game one. Game two assumes you know the universe/characters ect and have some attachment to them. Just a head's up though the combat in game one is not nearly as fun but if you're going to start anywhere, start at the beginning.
Don't get the orange box on 360 if you have a PC that can handle it. Between mods and all the crap valve regularly adds in updates it's better there.
If I were to recommend some arcade titles based on your preferences I'd say to pick up Magic The Gathering, Bionic Commando: ReArmed and I dunno what else. I have problems telling people to spend money on things they may not enjoy. Magic should feed into your enjoyment of strategy card games and Bionic Commando seems to synch with your old-school platformer sensibilities.
On the topic of 360 exclusives, check out Alan Wake.

Marvel vs Capcom 3
Super Street Fighter 4
A fightstick
You'll never have to buy another game.. Until they add more words to the game titles.
Hmm... Fighting games, never had much experience in these, to be honest, brawl was my first one, I'll give one of these a try (whichever is the first I find)
Brawl is really nothing like Street Fighter or Marvel vs Capcom.
Also, if you are going to get one and you dont have much experience with fighting games, I would recommend Marvel vs Capcom 3, you can figure most things out on your own there.
Street Fighter in a nutshell... YAWN
Super Street Fighter 4 is such a boring game. Once you figure out it all boils down to throwing fireballs endlessly there's no point. Now your suggestion to pick up Marvel vs Capcom 3 on the other hand is a good one. The controls are incredibly simple and pretty much universal, much like smash, and it's a pretty fast moving and chaotic good time.
Restoring the faith in Capcom.
If I were to recommend any other fighters:
Soul Calibur IV is friendly to newbies and pros alike. It's not based on 100 hit combos but rather short, high damaging exchanges with mostly simple inputs (some characters get pretty crazy) and it's fun to play with a friend. The game is very pretty despite being a couple years old and will make a nice showcase for what your new system can do. The net code is not fantastic though, so stick to couch play. It can get pretty complex when you start delving into it but it plays fine at any level.
Plays as nice as it looks.
Dead or Alive 4 is a bit more complex in controls but simpler in concepts and it's a nice introduction to fighters with sequence combos and bound concepts like Tekken or Virtua Fighter. It has fantastic net code. I cannot overstate how nice the net code for this game is. Counters are overpowered though. Pros can hammer you with high-end skills but you can have a lot of fun playing with people in your skill bracket and with friends. It was a 360 exclusive and can be found cheap used. It also features a guest appearance by a Halo Spartan.
At one time these characters were all but Mascots for the XBOX line.
Some pretty nice graphics for a system launch title, is the placement of his hands better or worse considering that's his daughter?
Someone here recommended Blazblue, and I would too, however it is a very complex game, the inputs and timing take a lot of getting used to if you have no fighter experience and well it's probably beyond you at this point in time. Keep it in mind for the future or heck, feel free to try it with cautions. There are two versions, Continuum Shift is the newer one and has extra characters and patch support.
oooh Shiny
Also Penguin, nice avatar.
