Lemme see if I got my history right:
Lords of the Fallen was a 2014 soulslike from a studio called Deck13 that I think was generally well-received.
Then they made The Surge and a sequel, which are like sci-fi soulslikes? Has its fans. I never played non of these.
Now there's a new Lords of the Fallen coming out this year, but by another studio. Meanwhile Deck13 is coming out with a game next week called Atlas Fallen which is being compared to Darksiders, so a change in direction for them.
But with a crowded release season including games that take like hundreds of hours to play, these potential great games seem getting comparatively little attention. So I'm wondering if anybody's looking forward to either?
Me personally I think Atlas Fallen has potential. I'm gonna need to see reviews before I buy cause the difference between a good and frustrating combat system for me these days can be very thin. But DMC-ish action fighting with some metroidvania-ish world sounds like my kind of jam. I played 1.5 Darksiders and I dig that type of game. This one's combat has something called a "momentum" system which potentially offers a new enough addition to your standard hack 'n' slash the way posture bars did a couple years ago.
Lords of the Fallen looks hella cool I just personally am burnt out on the Souls formula.
