That's right, I am the lord of chaos, muwahahahahahah...

I started the thread back then because the studios and properties do have a mixed history AND it was the summer run-up to the current glut season. Y'all are free to start dedicated review threads for either game, I ain't your dad.

Fextralife is great, I don't know where I'd have been without their guides especially during Elden Ring.

Lords of the Fallen critic reviews - Metacritic

Not surprising, but also apparently not terrible.

PC Gamer’s review seems pretty balanced -

They praise the combat fluidity and speed, variety, the risk/reward health wither system (after blocking you can regain temporarily lost health, or get hit and lose it), fair bosses, environments, etc.

But, and this was their big but (no pun), there is a huge difficulty spike mid to late game with regular world enemies that can feel like a nightmare. Build type might alleviate some of it, but yeah it’s something that could hopefully be tuned better with a patch, because the rest of the game sounds pretty damn good.

I have decided to take a risk on this game, for reasons i can't quite explain because I don't understand them. I swore off knock off Souls games and the reviews suggest that this will be "okay" at beast. But...I'm a stupid sucker so here we go.

Let's be honest I'm just trying to fill the hole in my heart until Rebirth comes out.

If you want it, you could have played Bomb Rush Cyber Funk or Double Dragon Gaiden. Either one cost less money then Lords of the Fallen, and those are way more than "okay". In your case, you probably would have been more enthusiastic for Bomb Rush.

Neither look like anything I'd be remotely interested in tbh. I'm not much of a beat em up fan, and whatever Bomb Rush is trying to be doesn't look good to me.

I know.

Jet Set Radio 3, but even better and more polished than the original two. You also get more options and are allowed to break dance now, and not just be a cut scene. Hope you like Lo-Fi hip hop, and techno. Some rock is thrown in there but not to the extent of the Jet Set Radio games.

I didn't like Jet Set Radio. I'm more of "Appreciate it from afar" in that regard. I get that it's a good game, but It doesn't appeal to me.

Anyway I'm gonna slay some...whatever the fuck is in this game.

No problem. I will say going back and playing the the first game is super rough. Not to mention how to do graffiti is really awkward and tedious.

Let me know when you get bored of that. I'll try and recommend you something else. Also, you might want to get a jump on Separate Ways Remake, when you're done. 7-hour campaign for $9.99 with a bunch of cool unlockable bonuses.

So Lords of the Fallen is broken on PC. My monster rig can only get 14 fps, and that's if it just doesn't lock up and crash immediately.

Apparently it got review bombed on steam for not running on a lot of systems. Oh well. Back to grinding Persona 3's platinum.

Why didn't you get the PS5 version? I know you got a decent PC, but with the way these PC ports have been going on, most of them don't start off with good quality. I know the console versions aren't completely out of the woods, but they usually get treated better by comparison for multi release.

I got it myself, playing on a GTX1070 and i7 7th gen, Win10 on SSD. It was really smooth at medium settings once I got past the cinematic intro. I used auto set but think textures were at high. But after about three or so hours my screen went black for a few seconds and then I couldn’t move my character, or the camera. All I could do is go into options and spin my dude around in place. I exited out and tried MK1 to make sure it wasn’t my controller and that worked, so yeah…sucks lol.

I was actually enjoying it pretty well too. There are some cool ideas with the realm shifting, and combat is snappy, but also kinda sloppy feeling in a way. There is heft to weapons and nice rag dolls on the attacks but movement is almost too fast (like Sekiro fast for sprinting but not as tight), which feels weird with the old Souls jumping method. Enemies can also be annoyingly mobbish to deal with, which isn’t promising this early on considering the complaints about it mid to late game. It’s like, I’ve only really tried a couple 3D soulslikes (Mortal Shell the other) and they both missed the point of what makes FROM’s more calculated and discretionary encounter design generally work well and feel “fair”.

The game has promise if they can patch it up to be more stable but I’m going to put it on hold for the time being.

My guess the problems are that stupid anti cheat shit they have running in the background.
