Well I find it annoying only because he doesn't always have to do it. And yes, sometimes he does say things that are funny but not all of his dialogue is funny.

Oh my god! How can you want to his Jansen...I found him the comic relief in the beginning because I found the beginning very boring.

And he still keeps his smart ass remarks, but he gets a lot smarter and nicer in Disk 3 and Disk 4
I agree, Jansen's a fresh coat of paint on an otherwise dull and faded fantasy adventure.

And what's up with what's-his-face, Gongora? The spellcaster who's built like a pro-wrestler, WTF? It's like having Mayor Haggar for a math teacher.

Lost Odyssey was annoyingly difficult though and the last boss battle and the end of backyardbattles thing was hell. I didn't really find it fun, it just made me a bit sad.

Yea, I am glad he was the comic relief....I do find him very hilarious at times. Especially when he's drunk,

The ending isn't that sad, I heard about it...not that bad.

I actually thought Lost Odyssey was to easy. Even the Temple of Enlightenment was laughable. The last boss at the backyard was kinda tough but I beat him with really no problem.

I liked the gimicky boss battles, the challenge and the character writing but I hated the "random happenstance" style of storytelling, basically how you sort of randomly wander to new places and have new things go wrong on you. I also think Gongora is a LAME villain.

I'm on Disc 2 as well, and I like the battle system and the skill system. I also like that since you go up levels quite quickly, up to around the level you need to be at to beat the next boss, and then very slowly after that, there is little point or need for hours of grinding. It also means that if you're stuck with a boss, you're better off thinking up a new strategy to defeat them, rather than fighting two hours of battles that you're never going to lose, in order to get your characters to a level where the fight is easy regardless of your strategy.

I liked it. It is a solid TB JRPG. Really wish I had skipped the TOE though. I hated that place.

I played it up until just after you fight Gongora in an unwinnble boss battle, but I stopped because my friend wanted to play Halo with me and I never got around to finishing it. I thought the story and characters were interesting and the gameplay was pretty fun, but I found it annoying that there were several immortals besisdes Kaim. It kinda made it seem less impressive. When Seth was introducing herself to Kaim , she might as well have said "You're a 1000-year-old immortal soldier with no knowledge of their past that survived the recent meteor crash that killed everyone else, despite the fact that you were incredibly close to the area that it hit? What a coincidence! I'm a 1000-year-old immortal soldier with no knowledge of their past that survived the recent meteor crash that killed everyone else, despite the fact that I was incredibly close to the area that it hit, too!

I liked it, a lot!

The story was engaging, as was discovering those memories you could read, some of those were really quite good and helped to understand the main character. My main quarrel with the game were the two children, Mack and Cooke, if I remember it correctly - they ruined some story scenes with their whining. Other than those little brats I thought the characters were in the good/great range.

an 8 or 9 probably

I didn't actually like the game that much. It seemed to much like a mix of Final Fantasy and Legend of the Dragoon for me to enjoy the unique parts.

I didn't find the kids very annoying, I thought they acted like kids should act, so I was fine with them > What got me was that there are too many cheezy cutscenes where everyone is like about to cry or is crying, everyone is a drama queen in this game. The acting in this game was way over the top from all characters. Too many moments where they try to make your heart flutter or something like that. I also didn't like that they developed the story by random occurences, unless of course you believe that their fates were pre-determined, then it makes perfect sense for so many coincedences. The combat system was pretty good, but random encounters got slow and annoying when you didn't want them to happen (wish there was a way to disable them sometimes). The 4-th disc is hard, unless you level up all your characters alot and then go for those sub-plot areas, some of which are great fun, you can take your giant boat to. I love that they had so many cutscenes though and that they had amazing effects and animation in them, regardless of acting and exagerated emotions. Great RPG, but mostly because my favourite rewards in video games is great cutscenes!!!

I enjoyed it, over all, to be honest the hardest bosses were near the start of the game if anything, and even those were easy. The temple of enlightenment was easy as long as you were at a high enough level(By the time you've got through that gut punch of a dungeon chances are you'll be high enough level for the boss...), and the other side quest bosses were rather laughable, imo. Persona could be a bit annoying if your unlucky, but nothing you can't handle.

I agree Cooke and Mack could get a bit annoying at times, but i think they calmed down a bit after disk 2 or so. Jansen was awesome though, one of my favourite characters.

Strange that you posted this thread more or less the same time I bought the game Oo

Well to be honest I'm pissed off with it, and I'm trading it in tomorrow, most likely for Soul Caliber 4. Why?
Because I don't like the kind of challenges that most JRPGs (this one in particular) throw at you, those challenges being incredibly high healthed bosses with bullshit attacks. My examples being the first two proper bosses, the first one being that gryphon-like creature that can poison you and inflict around 150 damage per party member with one attack. The second are those giant worm creatures that charge their attack, then unleash it causing around 220 damage per party member AND paralyzing them while the little bug bastards pick your health away. Before I get bile thrown back at me, please note that I said 'I don't like the kind of challenges...', affirming that the problem I state is that I don't like the challenge it poses, and that I'm not saying the game is shit.

Criticism out the way, I will say that the combat is pretty damn enjoyable when I'm not being mercilessly raped, and I found the voice acting to be literally the best I've ever come across in a game.

Lost Odyssey was a GEM imo.
It was cut down so much just because of its genre, which I see is very wrong.
Look at any review for the game and most of the cons are problems with ALL jrpgs.

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

who thought Jansen was character of the year? He had more lmao moments than any other character.
