OK, so over 100 major college presidents are calling upon law makers to lower the drinking age from 21 to 18, the way it used to be. I don't think it's necessary and don't see what's wrong with the current law, not that anyone really cares. If they want to drink they're going to drink regardless of age limit. What do others think about lowering the limit? I know it's lower in other countries.

People find a way to get alchohol no matter what the law is. It's 18 where I am, and we admittedly have a pretty bad drinking culture now. Scottish and Irish people feel right at home.

eh..`8 isn't bad, it wont change much of anything really. All it will do will give bars and beer stores more money. Here in Ontario it's 19, at 18 your legally an adult so i don't see why you cant drink as soon as your an adult.

We've already got enough DUIs and alcohol poisonings without the extra 3 years added to it, thanks

It should be lower, It encourages less binge drinking by letting them drink earlier so the whole 'special evening' drinking doesn't happen.

Nothing wrong with the 21 age limit not that it stops younger ones from drinking. Personally I don't think most 18 year old are mature enough to handle alcohol in a reasonable manner judging from the ones i've seen. I myself don't drink even if I am old enough, I have plenty of fun without it.

I think its fine the was it is right now, the three years put a buffer between adult responsibilities and booze.

WHAT?!

Sorry I just had to take that typo and run with it.

It's 18 here, but a lot of people start drinking around 14 - which, depending on the person and the amount of alcohol consumed can be quite devastating, I know some people who started drinking at an early age and by doing so have had liver complications and become alcoholics

Get rid of it entirely. One of the biggest reasons minors abuse alcohol is cause it's forbidden fruit.

Australia is 18. I can't see how people can' celebrate their 18th without a near faital amount of alcohol. It blows my mind.

i can kill people, get killed, and elect leaders for my country, but if i want to have a drink after all that craziness, i get denied at the door? fuck that. fuck that with a stick or rod-iron rebar.
*ahem* sorry about that.
yes , i can see how lowering the age would cut down on binge drinking. it would become run-of-the-mill, and not all "forbidden and enticing".

EDIT: besides, i've been drinking since i was 16, and as far as the great wheels of society are concerned, it's a non-issue.

FACT: In America you can buy a gun before you can buy a beer.

I'm confused, which is more dangerous?

EDIT: I believe the drinking age should be lowered to 19, same as Canada.

well that's more of a question for the board of mental health. i personally think that a trained, intelligent gun owner is better than a weapon-phobe. who's better off in an emergency?

I tend to be libertarian on this one. As long as they understand what the hell they are doing to their bodies and do not do it a place where they can endanger the public, I am all for lowering the drinking age.

18 should be the golden age, if you can vote you should be able to drink.
I understand what you're saying, I just want to say something...

Isn't it incredibly ironic that one might think you should be able to intoxicate yourself if you're going to help elect the leader of the country? I think we'd be mostly fine if the age limit were lowered, but the relation of drinking and voting is just hilarious to me.

We still cannot purchase bullets until we turn 21.
