All weak excuses for lazy writing. There is absolutely no good reason for so much stuff to be so uniform throughout an entire galaxy of different planets, species, cultures... and there's even less reason for all of it to remain so uniform for thousands of years.

I mean, geez, look at planet Earth alone -- I don't use the same slang as a guy in Australia, plenty of people drive things other than Mazdas, every army on the planet uses a different standard issue rifle, not every crime boss is a Mexican guy with a pet tiger, and we have far more than one biome. And that's just one planet.

Tatooine, Dantooine, Alderaan, Hoth, Dagobah, Coruscant, Corellia, Talus, Tralus, Naboo, Thyferra, Ryloth, Kashyyyk, Mustafar, Lok, Geonosis, Yavin, Endor... I could go on. All of these are entire planets with presumably at least a couple of indigenous species apiece.

Yet everyone out there is either a Sith Lord/Apprentice, Jedi Master/Knight, an evil bounty hunter, a smartass smuggler with a heart of gold, an emotionally detached female dignitary, an Imperial officer (or equivalent for the time period), or underworld scum? Sorry. It's just Lucas trying to sell the same story forty different ways, and it has done nothing but shrink the Star Wars universe.
Now look at who's bein ridiculous. You're drawing comparisons to two things that CANNOT be compared. Earth and an entire GALAXY are two different things. The entirety of the Human race, much less you, know enough about our own galaxy to say what others look like, unless you happen to be Q.

The taws of Cultural Diffusion definately account that with so much inter-species interaction, as happens in the SW universe, whilst individual cultures in their homelands (or home planets) would retain distinctiveness, the galaxy as a whole would grow into a more unified culture, like the Romans, Chinese, Mongolians, the examples are nearly endless. There is absolutely NO REASON that couldn't happen on a galactic scale. And for the record, most world militaries prefer to issue native arms, but will utilize American, Russian, and Israeli arms given the chance, as superior quality trumps where it is made, especially in military terms. And as for the character examples you point out, you are exaggerating. It's only the MAJOR characters, plus those that directly influence them, who fill those roles, because, as major characters, they need to be, you know, INTERESTING. Most people in the SW universe are just random oppressed poor sods waiting to be killed in many nasty ways, or more recently, devoured by the Uzzan Vong (totally misspelled that).

Gritty Realism. Star Wars. Mature. Anything to keep from making a new x-wing or rogue squadron game, right? Sure, they'd make millions of dollars in a week if they made a new star wars flight combat game, but no, we've gotta have gears of star wars instead.

Oh yeah, that's just what we need. Whiny alcoholics in space. Perhaps they could also introduce cousins with bowling addictions too.

shootdodging in zero g.
nuff said.
What happens if it doesn't have shootdodge? For that matter, it doesn't even look like the game will actually have a space level, so no zero G stuff either.

I think shootdodge would work well for a matrix game though.
