and it's getting "fixed" to match Lucas' original vision... and it blows.
Which, apart from everything else, it isn't. He documented his original vision quite thoroughly. And now he disagrees with it.

If I were re-cutting that scene (and, let's be honest, it doesn't really need it), as Vader looks on as Luke is microwaved, I would intercut snippets from the prequels -- half-remembered pieces from Anakin's past, little pieces, nudges from Palpatine that he'd never put together before. The flashback fragments would show Vader realizing: Palpatine had set him up from the start.

He would also remember losing Padme, who (he still believes) died at his hand. Now he is confronted with losing the son he barely knew (and the daughter he never will). And so, [em]silently[/em], he turns, grabs the Emperor, and throws him down the tower shaft.
This sounds great! Maybe someone can do a fan cut of this and pitch it to Lucas?

NOOOOOO indeed.
How is it possible that such a fool made the three original Star Wars movies?
Looking at what he does now, it seems like a completely different person.
I bet his crew kept him in check back then, discarding his retarded shit and kept the movies good.
But now that he's 'the man', his crews no longer has any say in anything, and the retarded shit stays in.

Okay, at this point, it's obvious Lucas doesn't even care about "improving" the films. He's just squeezing every last drop out of Star Wars that he can and fucking with us in the process.

People whine too damn much. I don't see what the big deal about this thing is, really. If people are so fucking invested in a fictional universe then they should well create their own; one that is free and available for anyone and just let it go on by the collevtive 'fanon' of the community instead of a singular 'canon' of some dude in his ranch.

Start making animated films, writing prose, web comics, or whatever. Seriously people, calm down.

What in the world is going on in the head of Lucas? Someone should take him the rights for the movies away even if they're his creations (doubtful at this point) and just give him something else to play with.
No seriously, it really seems like he's deliberately trying to piss the fans off or he's the biggest ignorant I've ever seen and actually believes that the fans like these changes. I can't come up with any other explanation.

But come the fuck on, George. Please stop. You obviously don't understand how you made great films in the 70s & 80s if you keep making these changes. What's next? You add Jar Jar Binks to the cantina scene, or re-record Alec Guinness's dialogue in Star Wars to include midi-chlorians?

This further proves that Lucas only made the original Star Wars films by accident. I now officially regret pre-ordering the blu-ray sex-ology back in January. I was going to give the prequels another shot ... maybe they weren't as bad as I had thought ... well, screw that.

Are you sure that part of this isn't an entirely natural fear of change to something which has been a part of your life? The changes might improve it, you could give it a go. Lucas isn't threatening your memories or childhood by changing new additions - his attempts to improve things is what made him able to achieve great things to begin with!

The first one sounded good. The second one made it bad. Although I will just keep the originals on my bookshelf and watch those instead. Blu Ray will just reveal things nobody wanted you to see, like wires and makeup.

people over reacting much? You dont have to buy the damn thing.
You see, the problem is that I do want them to give the original unaltered movies a proper re-release on a more current format. I do want to be able to actually watch the damn things and not just have fond memories of them. But, as I've said, Lucas seems to be intentionally denying us this. If he made all versions of the movies easily available to us, I would agree with you.
But you can get the old versions can't you? And he is only trying to improve it - more power to him I think. He can't threaten your memories or childhood, you have nothing to fear from this. I doubt he is trying to antogonise his fan base, although he seems to be on a different wave length I admit. Then again, considering the amount of excrement thrown at him by his fans, would you listen to us?

Remember when Movie Bob had that "It's time to forgive George Lucas" article? Well I don't he's giving people any reasons to forgive him.

At first I was neutral on this whole thing, as I could never really pin what version of the original trilogy I had seen first (though I think Han Shot first in mine, and the Emperor had green skin in the hologram).

Then I saw Younger Jabba the hut meeting Han Solo in EPIV, and I wondered why that was necessary.

Then I saw Naboo at the end of ROTJ, and thought it was silly.

But then I heard about him removing Sebastian Shaw from the end of ROTJ and I seriously felt there was something wrong with the man who thought this was OK.

And now this is icing on the cake.

George Lucas didn't ruin my childhood, but I can definitely understand why this revisionism angers the fans.

It's quite hard to get the old versions, considering that Lucas himself has sought to get his hands on them all. He also taped over the original negatives.

I'm not the biggest fan of Star Wars. I think it's popularity is more due to the fact that it was a huge accomplishment more than it's an actual good set of films. That being said there are a few scenes that are actually good film making and the scene in the Death Star with Luke, Vader and Palpatine is among those.

In that final scene, despite having a blank unmoving face, you can feel what's going on in Vader's head. He sees his son being totured, his son who spared his life, who believed in him. He looks to Palpatine who moments earlier betrayed him, he sees the look of cruelty on Palpatine's face, perhaps recognising it from when Master Windu was killed. He looks back at his son, remembers the lies, remembers reason for him joining Palpatine in the first place. Vader makes the decision to act. Not out of hatred but out of necessity as a Jedi would and out of the love that was his original downfall.

I imagine Lucas feared that this subtlety was just too much for people and they would be confused by Vader's sudden switch of allegience. Lucas obviously doesn't have that much respect for the people who watch his movies.

Under the new "Nooo" scene the tone is quite differnt. You can still understand what goes on in Vader's head but it's more like this.

"Ooh, Luke hurt. Hurt not good. Mean man hurt Luke! Hmm, no that not right. Me no like mean man! Me kill mean man! Raaah!"

I guess with this Lucas has finally turned one of the most iconic villains in cinema into a one dimensional muppet.

Well I'm going to be the only one here saying this but I honestly like this change. I re-watched this movie lately and Darth's attack on the Emperor in truth seems to come out of no where and I didn't really think it seemed like he was having a change of heart. I actually agree to this change. Though the first No is really cheesy.
And now let all hateful messages start pouring in. If I were a troll I would probably say something like "Good let the hate flow through you" but then again I am not.

Add me to the "I really don't care what Lucas does as long as he releases the un-"enhanced" originals in a widescreen, remastered format." The day the originals are released in this manner on DVD I'll pick them up. Heck I'll happily pick them up even if they're bundled with the prequels, I don't like them but if that's the extra price of getting the originals I'll pay it.

Lucas, I want to give you my money, why don't you want my money?
