Seems kind of pointless to me, I don't understand why you would want to mess with a movie decades after it original release. What does this add to the movie, I can at least understand what having Greedo shoot first does, it makes Han look a bit more noble, but I don't really see the point to this at all.

I always found the climactic scene in Jedi to be a little empty. The problem with internal emotional conflict with no dialogue is that it relies on the actor's facial and physical reactions. With no facial movement possible because of the mask, the only acting that could be done was physical movement.

Vader's "looking back and forth" indicating his internal conflict kind of strikes me as clumsy, even to this day. Family Guy spoofed the moment perfectly in their parody of it, where Darth Stewie decides and announces, in a "Aw, what the hell..." manner, that he'll save Luke/Chris.

Of all the retcons that Lucas has done to the films, I'd say this one is the most harmless. However, everyone knows that HAN SHOT FIRST.

On DVD, yes. There is a version out that has 2 discs. One with the 'special' edition, and the normal ones.
And I'm holding on to my copy just all that tighter.

It's not the one "Noooo"...it's the questioning "No?". WTF? That's screenwriting straight out of Edward D. Wood, Jr. Lucas added a "roar" from Vader as he reaches for the Emperor before - it was unneeded but not intrusive or insulting to the audience.

This just makes the moment melodramatic instead of having what gravatas the scene had.

I still say if Lucas wanted to fix anything about that scene...explain to us how come Yoda never warned Luke that the Emperor could shoot lightning bolts from his hands? Because we know now from the prequels that Yoda knew and we've always known from Luke's actions that he believed that the Emperor was "unarmed" as he claims.

But a amateur plot screw up like that can't be fixed with CGI so....
Yoda warned Luke several times about underestimating his opponents. In fact, one of those lines has become something of a meme these days.

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size do you?"

and

"And well you should not! For my ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us? and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this? [nudging Luke's arm] crude matter! You must feel the Force around you. Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock? everywhere! Even between the land and the ship."

and, while on his deathbed, Yoda gave Luke one final specific warning:

"Luke?Luke?Do not?Do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor, or suffer your father's fate, you will."

If you watched the Star Wars movies today chronologically, of course you'd know that Sidious, among other Sith Lords, could shoot lightning from their hands. But if you watched the movies in their release order, you'd know that the Emperor's true abilities were hidden so as the have a massive "WTF!?" moment for the climactic scene.

The new Krayt dragon call added into ep IV literally made me burst out laughing, i though it was a fan made joke sound, its that bad! It sounds like, well i don't even know what its supposed to sound like

Why george? Why? The way you treat your art astounds me, this is like if Da Vinci went back to the Mona Lisa 3 decades after finishing it then deciding it would look a lot better if he gave her a dirty sanchez!!!

Know what I have to say about this?

...yes you do, because I'm waaaaaay too late in responding to this thread for my typing "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" to be taken as creative and hilarious. Darn it.

Alright guys, lets play the, "How can Lucas screw over Star Wars" game!!!

rules are simple: just list things that could screw over Star Wars that Lucas would probably do.

As an example: Dub over Lando Calrissian's lines to "better reflect the black community."

lol. "Altering these films is like changing the Mona Lisa, or David"

Hyperbole much? Yes, Star Wars is a great universe and story. I love them and have been watching them since I was 6. Now I'm in no way a Star Wars purist (I really don't care who shot first - Han is still a badass), but I have to agree this "noooooooo" thing is pretty stupid.

Mind you, not as stupid as that Max Rebo Band musical number in Jabba's palace. I dunno, I think I have to say that Return of the Jedi is pretty weak as a whole. Lol, as I type this I just noticed that Jedi is airing on Spike.

I'm just glad I got the special edition of the original star wars trilogy with both the theatrical releases and the edited ones on DVD.

Are the theatrical releases of the original three out on DVD or Blu Ray?
You can still find the Limited Edition, which has the "special" edition on one disk and the unaltered theatrical release on DVD. I just threw the "special edition" disks in the trash

people over reacting much? You dont have to buy the damn thing.
You see, the problem is that I do want them to give the original unaltered movies a proper re-release on a more current format. I do want to be able to actually watch the damn things and not just have fond memories of them. But, as I've said, Lucas seems to be intentionally denying us this. If he made all versions of the movies easily available to us, I would agree with you.
"A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you'll be able to project it on a 20' by 40' screen with perfect quality. I think it's the director's prerogative, not the studio's to go back and reinvent a movie."

-George Lucas

Actually, I doubt very much if the original theatrical release will ever be released again on anything higher quality than a DVD. He's adamant that the edited films should replace the original copies.

*Sigh* I almost never say anything this cruel, but I really hope he dies and leaves no instruction for reproducing the theatrical release, it honestly looks like the only way we'll ever see the REAL six Oscar winning film again.

........................................... I can't find the words for how stupid a fan base can freak out over the tiniest detail,so..........................................................
It's not a tiny detail, this is the second pivotal dramatic moment he's ruined, he basically approached a perfect scene showing tension and dramatic revolution without words and he added the words...in the style of a cliche from 50's and 60's horror movies, the biggest problem is that that scene that they added to BY ITSELF created it's own identity and became a cliche. The scene is so iconic that it inspired similar scenes in other movies, and now it's gone, replaced by a cliche from another era when it itself started it's OWN cliche.

Star Wars isn't just a movie, it's imbedded in the collective symbolic lexicon of the ENTIRE world, and he's removing some of the parts that make it so iconic.
