i'm wanting to know who here has actually achieved lucid dreaming, and if so, how. i want to try it cause it seems like it'd be something cool to do, so tell me how you were able to do it.
Let me grab the chart (courtesy of Deco:)

Haven't experimented with it much myself, but best of luck to you!
That's a cool chart! I want to try a WILD but I think the sleep paralysis might be too disturbing.

I achieved lucid dreaming before I knew what lucid dreaming was. When I was a kid and I didn't like my dream, I summoned a "dream tornado" to whisk me to a new one. After a while I no longer needed the tornado and could control my dream at will.

It gets boring, controlling dreams, so these days I let the dream run its course; I rarely change a thing, even if I dislike the dream.

It's not all it's cracked up to be. Also, after I achieve it, BLINKING wakes me.
I've noticed that for myself too.

I've noticed that the times I most commonly have a lucid dream are when something from outside that dream starts to intrude: people walking around the house at night, dogs barking, getting shaken, etc.

I actually achieve lucid dreams all the time. It took quite a bit of practice, but what you do is realise your dreaming, but don't think about ending it. Just try to run with it until your comfortable, and then you can make cool things happen. It's really good fun.

I had a lucid dream that seemed more real than most of my nonlucid dreams. As much as I would like the ability to control all of my dreams, I've decided that it isn't worth my time. To me, lucid dreams are like rare gems that you can only get when you're not expecting one. Who knows? Maybe I'll get better on my own.

I found I have a couple of 'tells' in dreams that I sometimes notice.
Though it was really weird last night I was in a dream where I would figure out I was dreaming then 'wake up' then later on realise I'm still asleep. Very much like Inception in some ways but more of the kind of dream where you wake up for school, get to a point and then wake up and realise you've just dreamed all of that.

For advice on how to lucidly dreams... uh, be overly critical of details, think logically. A lot of the time my subconscious seems to throw something in randomly.
I tend to lose all sense of logic when I'm dreaming. I won't even try to remember how I got to where I am or whatever.

I've achieved lucid dreaming, as in being aware of the dream and controlling my actions however it is not like some sort of instant fantasy land where you can summon whatever you want. That takes lots and lots of practice.

If you want to simply become aware of dreaming. Reality checks or keep a dream diary.
See when ever I achieve lucid dreaming I over analyze it. Like I roll with it and feel like I'm a part of it and I control my actions. But the moment I do something really really out there (like falling from a building and turning to a ant before i hit the ground and ended up in china). I end up thinking about it and saying wait this has to be a dream (or soemthing to that nature) and I wake up. Or my dream ends up with me thinking ("i had something to do today at 4 o clock), I look at a clock and realize i have to wake up and bam i'm awake.

I have lucid dreams every so often. I'll reiterate what other posters have said, it's not like some kind of dream world where you can imagine it and it happens. Really it's just that you seem to have control of your body and some of your actions.

Of course, my experiences have been vastly different from each other. Some lucid dreams I remember having I remember attempting to kiss every girl I could see. Not sure how that worked out. While others I had a more complete idea of what was going on and not just some silly "I want to do this suddenly" notion.

I have far more frequent occurrences of me waking myself up from a dream, it's happened so much that I can pretty much do it at will and I definitely do when I'm having unpleasant dreams. In them I just close my eyes and, for lack of a better description, wake up. I guess its kind of a form of lucid dreaming only instead of doing stuff I just become aware that I'm dreaming and end it.

I rarely lucid dream. And when I do, I try to get with a girl, if you know what I mean.

What is annoying is, even when I am lucid dreaming, I can never get it.
Always, something interrupts right before we can start.

Not even in my dreams...

I dont know if anyone's ever actually successfully had lucid dreaming by trying to have it.

I know i've had it, and its been a really good portion of my dreams lately (but i dont dream often), because i have a good imagination, and when i was younger, I had a bit of trouble distinguishing reality from fiction.

I still soemtimes see things not as they are in reality, i but i think its more something wrong with me mind.

I always realize I'm in a dream, but I just let events process forward because I have this knowledge. I just like to watch everything play out, regardless of its craziness just to see how weird my mind is. Diagnosis so far? Pretty fucking weird.

I have experienced it once when i was young.

Im the dream i was in my grandmas house watching my mom decorate, when i realized i was dreaming so i told my mom (dream mom) and she respond with an "ok" and continued with her non existent job. Seeing a chance to do whatever i want i tried the most logical dream power....flying. so i climbed on the couch for a test flight, dove off in a flying fashion but landed on my face.....and it hurt. so i deduced that i need to try it from a higher altitude. I went outside to the concrete steps that has a good hight to it (about 15 feet) and prepared to jump when i thought back to my previous failure and decided not to temp dream fate and waled away...and the dream ended.....yeah lucid dreaming did not work for me.

Is lucid dreaming when you are aware that you're dreaming, or when you can control your dreams? Because even when I realise I'm dreaming (which just seems to happen occasionally by chance) I can't make things happen or control anything.

I remember once, when I was a bit younger, I had a dream where I was in the backyard. My rabbit was talking to me, asking me to open the gate and let it out. It wanted to see the outside world, it said, and it promised to come back. I realised it was a dream, and therefore no harm in doing as it asked, but just as I was about to open the gate, it struck me how real it seemed. I asked my rabbit to talk again, but it just looked at me, silently. I hesitated, and then I woke up, and to this day I really regret not opening the gate. I should have done that much for it, at least. Damn it.

Edit: That wasn't a very good example of lucid dreaming, but it's the one that bothers me the most. There have also been a few where I try to fly or do something cool after I realise I'm dreaming, but it never works.

I've gotten it a few times. Usually causes me to fall and wake up since, for some odd reason. A lot of my dreams are in Third Person.

I think I've managed it once or twice. Usually, I just realize I'm dreaming, and I just stand back and see where it's heading. I've been able to nip a few recurring nightmares in the bud that way, by waking up. It's very strange, not like waking up involuntarily. You just open your eyes. There's no slow process of remembering where you are, everything's clear immediately, even the dream you just left.

I remember the time when I was being mauled by a pack of dogs and I just didn't want to be in that dream anymore so I forced myself to wake up.

Another time I was jumping around, jumping higher and higher every time. I was even able to hover for a few seconds before hitting the ground. I thought to myself "Wait a minute. There's no way I could really do that. This must be a dream." Then I started flying.

I have attempted the WILD technique and nearly got to the lucid dreaming stage. I could see the white patterns which are supposed to be your dreams forming but then I had to move... The thing about WILD is that because your technically not sleeping you feel very tired after and you have to stay perfectly still which takes a lot of willpower (tiring you even more...) Haven't been able to try a WILD for a while because of exams, might start again during the holidays.
