That's fucking brilliant.... thanks for linking it!!
See, I really hate when someone from the camp of 'the prequels are alright' starts using the lightsabre duels as a somehow decent means of measuring the quality of the acting.
Rubbish.
Pure and simple.
If you sit down and watch A New Hope, you'll see that Mark Hamill does an amazing job of playing the restless young man who never knew his true identity wrestle with his desires to get out into the wider world. Hamill's infectious enthusiasm as Luke and his easy going, friendly demeanour, dare I say innocence, make him someone we kind of wish we knew, or, if we're really lucky, already do.
In a sense, Luke is in all of us.
Anakin was supposed to be a dark reflection of this- beset and hounded by tragedy since a child with a terrible weight on his shoulders....
But all we got was teenage angst, some petulant rage, posing and the most wooden and stilted performance since Keanu Reeves challenged an actual plank of wood to a stilts running competition.
Kid Annakin was rather annoying, yes, but Hayden Christensen was appalling in every respect.
Comparing him to the heartfelt, enthusiastic performance given by Hamill as Luke is impossible.
Luke Skywalker will always be one of the greatest Jedi to me.
Ok, so he can't jump as high as the CGI made the others do, but that's not the point.
He was brave enough to try and rescue a princess in the Death Star, wise enough to come up with a plan to do it, and down to earth enough that he could see the good in a smuggling rogue and a walking carpet.
