Lulzsec Hacks Bethesda

To all you wondering why they'd hack Bethesda at all if they love them so much, it's rather obvious. They hacked them, got beaten back from any of the interesting information, and so put a spin on the press release.
OT: As I said on the thread about this, these guys are dicks. They need to cut out all the hacking, hack websites that deserve hacking, or get arrested already.

In fact, I hope Bethesda actually delay the game by one day just to piss these guys off.
It would ruin the cool 11/11/11 thing they got going. Think about it, Australian audiences aren't confused by the month being before the day! It's perfect.

You know, Bethesda could do the world a favour by announcing that the intrusion forced them to delay development of Skyrim until they can further secure their network. As soon as 4chan found out, Lulzsec would find their names, addresses, emails, license plates, favourite brand of cola and everything else being anonymously delivered to the FBI.

Most of us are perfectly capable of working out when they're using the American form of the date. I would get all indignant about this but there's a crocodile in my pool that I have to take care of.

I don't know about you, but I occasionally experience brief moments of confusion...
Those things are out of control these days! Why not just let your kangaroo take care of it?

Bethesda got off lightly because LulzSec aren't actually extremely competent hackers. Surprise surprise.

The more places they visit, the sooner the law catches up. Personally, I'm excited to see these arrogant idiots have their souls crushed by the law.
This to the power of infinity and beyond. I swear, how many sites and groups do these guys need to bust in on before it finally becomes clear that THIS IS THE ENEMY. Not of the corporations, not of governments, OF THE INTERNET. What, do we need to make it a quest? Do we need to offer XP and Gold for these guys to be hunted down in their lairs (aka basements and man-caves)? Would that be motivation enough?

On the plus side, Sony is starting to look less and less lax in terms of their security. Hard to claim they were the weak man on campus when EVERYONE is getting punched in the e-guts.

I think the obvious point is being missed here. Brink is a game that by all accounts is a second rate rip off of "Team Fortress". Like almost every other attempt to do something that isn't an RPG, Bethesda has basically produced a second rate product. I think what the Lulzboat is doing is nuking "Brink" as a way of saying "let this die, and invest the effort in what your really good at.

See, by giving back the information that they took from all of Bethesda's other products everyone knows what they got, and information protection services can go to work. With Brink it's a little more difficult because it's unknown how much they walked away with, and if they still have their fingers in it.

If people stop playing Brink and the product dies, with Bethesda pulling out the support, that's more effort that can go into their other projects. Supporting something like Brink probably involving a lot of time, effort, and resources on their part (though I could be wrong about that).

At least that's what they seem to be saying, it's not *just* "we hacked you because we liked you, now tighten up your security" there is actually a point being made here.

Truthfully I'm hardly the only Fallout/Elder Scrolls fan who hasn't wanted to give Bethesda a kick in the keister and get them to keep focusing on the games that I actually want to play, even when it comes to Elder Scrolls spin offs and so on, they have a really bad tendency of producing a sub-standard product outside of their core "sandbox RPG" format.
And that's why it's totally valid to screw with them; because you don't like Brink.

...seriously, wtf, man. Are you that starved for more Fallout or Elder Scrolls that you want all the people playing Brink to suffer, and are basically cheering-without-condoning because of that? Cause I gotta say, speaking as a HUGE fan of the Bethesda Fallout games/DLC, and someone who adores Elder Scrolls... no! HELL no! I am NOT cheering this! I am NOT celebrating this! A company I love GOT HACKED. They got directly screwed with! I could give two damns less about Brink, a game I have neither played nor really care to- I don't even care for Team Fortress, so I'm not going to be keen on a game in the same vein -but if you actually CARE about the company worth a damn, you should be pissed off too!

And again, taking that aside, what exactly is the message here? That Brink is bad and they should feel bad for making it? That they are not allowed to try ANYTHING different aside from two first-person view (with optional-slash-crap third-person views) RPGs? Really? Because that is just low and crass. I love what Bethesda has managed to produce, and I want them to have free reign to produce it, and not feel hemmed in by psychotic lunatics with a hacking fetish.

And again, this basically is saying 'If you bought Brink and are playing it, stop. Stop having fun with this game. You suck for having fun with it, when you SHOULD be ignoring it completely and making Bethesda lose money, so they'll rush out Skyrim with tons of bugs in desperation to make their money back.' Not one inch of that message is one I can even DREAM of condoning.

Rebels without a cause...
They hack stuff for fun then come up with a bullshit reason for it later.
At least Anon does useful stuff with their hacking prowess (like taking down the WBC download site).
Even Lulzsec's name pays homage to their childishness and stupidity. They should just fuck off.

They want to speed up production of Skyrim?? Do we want the game to be an even BIGGER pile of glitches?! o_O What is this group thinking???

All the reasons they do or do not hack places is just plain ridiculous. At least Anonymous had the appearance, an idea of class to it. It was a group that stood for something, that had ideals. Even if in their name there existed idiots, the group at least had a lofty, higher dream purpose. I still didnt approve of them, but they had at least that.

Everything about Lulzsec just feels like its run by a bunch of giggling internet spawn, ignorant, or even protected from cold reality. They're doing this to present flaws in internet security, but they chose their targets not for any kind of lofty ideal, but because they liked a game platform?! Because they want a game released?! What the flipping hell?! This is not lulz-worthy, this is just, just giggling idiocy.

Holy crap the awful reporting is awful.

1. The weekend attacks on brinkthegame.com over the weekend are different to the ones Lulzsec did.

2. Lulzsec effectively took control of Bethesda's internal network through having root access to their servers. They had access to everything stored on them.

3. They have SOURCE CODE that was stored on the servers. That alone is freaking huge, especially if it's compilable.

brb, gonna start some anal intrusion to promote Rape Awareness.
I think this may be the comment of the decade. Well played.

OT: What? Why would you hack a website and then expect the progress of a game to increase? And I'm a Brink player, so does that mean I have to change my Xbox Live account password? There's no credit card though. Ah fuck it. Might as well do it.

If I were Bethesda, I'd be all like:

"Oh, so you WANT Skyrim now, huh? DELAYED, BLAME LULZ" That'll teach them not to be such idiots. Plus, they're obviously hacking at random to create fear of them in larger companies, I hope it doesn't come to that.

I think Bethesda has a good enough sense of humor to put a top hat somewhere in one of their games because of this.
I doubt it, LulzSec just aren't funny.

And BGS forums is 404'ing for me.

Great.

Edit: We need a new name for these guys. Every time I use the word 'LulzSec' I feel like I'm giving in to them.

From now on, they will be known as the Faceless Morons.
The site is up and working fine where I'm at. Must be something on your end. It's especially weird because I didn't read anything about a denial of service attack...

"Please find enclosed everything we took, excluding one thing - 200,000+ Brink users. We actually like this company and would like for them to speed up the production of Skyrim, so we'll give them one less thing to worry about," the group explained in a Pastebin description [http://pastebin.com/i5M0LB58] of the attack. "You're welcome!"
hmm so they hacked a site of a company they like and want them to speed up production of Skyrim a product that technically the company doesn't have to produce. Yet they probably helped to slow it down by making Bethesda have to look at it's company security...what kind of weird logic does Lulzsec use?

I mean that's like robbing a bank saying that "I actually like this bank and would like them to hurry up giving me all their money(something the bank doesn't HAVE to provide), so I'll give them one less thing to worry about." and then take everything except the pens and deposit slips. "You're welcome!"

This guy is terrible. He is a prick who is smug about himself because he can DDoS any site. I
seriously hope Anonymous finds something wrong with this.
