Why the hell are so many Apple Computers showing up in TV Shows, News programs, etc. whenever someone shows you a computer or computer screen?

Don't know. I wasn't really sure why Otacon was using Mac in MGS4. What, are Macs Ideal for Hacking? I thought Linux would be, to be perfectly honest.

Either way, it's probably because Apple can afford this discrete advertising. An iPad, from my observations, would cost about £200 for the cheapest one, bit more for the Wifi and that.

Calumon: I thought apples were forbidden?

i think it's just because of their design, it have nothing to do with the actual computer value. a macbook pro look way better on screen than a bulky hp or ibm laptop for exemple.

Either it's cuz it's what all those trendy media types have lying around, or Apple pay them to do it.

Macs are widely used for video editing and post-production, it has nothing to do with being "trendy".

I love the commercial about the virus scan service that only works for PCs but there is clearly a mac with a BSOD edited onto the screen of a computer that is clearly a mac. I know that tidbit isn't particularly pertinent, but I find it a little funny is all.

Although you're right on your first point, you're wrong on the second.

Also, let me point out that Macs are no longer top dog in video editing. Both PC and Mac run the same components these days. In fact the best and latest Workstation graphics cards such as Quatro or FireGL usually come out on the PC first.

The only reason Macs would ever be considered the standard is because it has been for years now, and moving to a Windows based machine wouldn't sit well with the current editing scene. Also, there are still a few good Mac exclusive programs for such editing, though that is changing fast.

Macs are actually very reliable when it comes to anything media oriented (editing, sound design, etc.). It's also a bit more user friendly too, and as we already know, news anchors need all the help they can get.

For hacking and shit... well when has media ever gotten anything like this right.

Yeah, cuz macBooks are what the editing people use. C'mon, pull the other one.
Why would they use subpar equipment when there's better Macs around even?

Apple pays for product placement. That's why they show up on TV so much. Just like people drinking Bud, or coke, or eating a certain food. It's just advertising.

Nice bible reference, very clever.

OT: It's product placement, plain and simple. Most people either have a PC or a Linux, but I suppose it's possible that they actually own the computer, and they are actually mac users. However, I find that unlikely, but in the end it is possible.

They are. And this is coming from someone who hates Macs. They are a far better platform for editing and sound design, there are far less errors and problems.

But I still despise the damn things. So anti Windows it hurts my soul.

Yeah, unfortunately, this kind of thinking leads to images and photos and applications piling up, slowing the thing to a crawl. Having seen some photographer's and graphic designer's Mac HD's, ouch.

Then, that's not really the Mac's fault, just people thinking it's some kind of magic wonder box.

It's another way for Mac to get you to buy their products, the reasoning boiling down to "because the cool kids have it."

A lot of it has to do with advertising, though sometimes they actually make sense where they are. As it is, I'll stick with my Windows thank you very much.

I'm getting pretty sick of the whole "Mac's are trendy" blah blah argument. I own a Mac AND a PC.

I use my Mac more because

A) I do a lot of audio editing
and

2) It doesn't bug out on me and get viruses and crash. Ever.

The PC though, I use for other things, like gaming.

They both have their flaws, they both have their good points, and I use what I need to use to get the job done.

Does that mean I'm following a trend or am a fanboy? I'd say it's more the "it thing to do" to constantly make fun of macs nowadays, or at least online.

Anyhow, I end my rant or rantish sorts.

OT: I don't think I've seen macs in the media anymore than I've seen PC's or those weird "THIS IS A COMPUTER" fake computers with a mysterious OS on tv shows.

Two reasons: because Apple pays for a lot of product placement, and because Macs are the industry standard in a lot of industries.
