Some of the cards for that combo are so old they're no longer legal except in Vintage tournaments, and Wizards just quietly accepts that Vintage is a really broken format. A deck like mine, with an infinite number of warriors by turn 5 and easily disrupted by one Counterspell, would get eaten alive by serious Vintage players running $5000 decks.SL33TBL1ND said:Jesus, that really seems like something they should fix.
There are lots of coloured artifacts. I have a black/white artifact deck, one of my friends has a devastating blue artifact deck. I find it's only best to have a completely colourless artifact if you have the Urzatron combo.Chase Yojimbo said:I was artifact but I dabbled a lot with all the colours before choosing Artifact.
All of those weaknesses can easily be overcome. Conceptually, i like Green/Black combo, good mix of defense and offense and powerful game-changing spells.
I find the other colours to have too strong weaknesses for me to use effectively (Red: no real defence, White: no mid-range creatures, Blue: not enough creatures.)
Love the Urza block. The only set of cards to ever get the entire design team yelled at. So glad I have the whole set.Chamale said:Some of the cards for that combo are so old they're no longer legal except in Vintage tournaments, and Wizards just quietly accepts that Vintage is a really broken format. It seems like my biggest problem is that i don't have enough cards (I have lots, but they'r not as varied/useful as i would like when i try to create a deck), but cards are expensive.SL33TBL1ND said:All of those weaknesses can easily be overcome. Red defends with ridiculous numbers of goblins and thunderbolts.
White has a lot of 4CMC (Converted Mana Cost) griffins.
Blue doesn't really need many creatures, just a small number that works well together a great example of this is The Time Elemental [http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=159775]
Ah, well I guess it helps that my parents have been playing since the 90's and therefore have 5 binders, a suitcase and 12 card boxes full of cards plus 8 active decks.DanielDeFig said:It seems like my biggest problem is that i don't have enough cards (I have lots, but they'r not as varied/useful as i would like when i try to create a deck), but cards are expensive.SL33TBL1ND said:All of those weaknesses can easily be overcome. This reminds me of my Blue/Red deck. It's not my main deck, or even my favorite, but I love the fact that it's U/R but instead of relying on counterspells and burn damage, it's a straight up aggro deck, in which almost every creature has some kind of evasion ability -- mostly flying and shadow, with a couple of unblockable cards, including an unblockable 6/6 that I can get out in two or three turns for 3 mana, assuming it's a multiplayer game and things are going my way.NeutralDrow said:Blue light special.
It rarely works for me (especially since I'm, like, six years out of date), but my blue/red combo is what I love best. Counterspell and blast away.
