Every single drug would be legalised, taxed and regulated.
Ditto for prostitution.
Legalizing all drugs is a bad thing you don't want the whole world to be a meth head.
but If you legalize drugs like cannabis the gouvernment has control as the distribution are concerned it makes it easier to control. less sale to minors etc.
As for prostition this too should be controlled I think most people forget that if there are hookers those perverts who would otherwise rape your daughter can now go bang a streetwalker.
There are always two sides on each medallion but downright banning things is a bad thing to do and it makes the prisons over populated,
Legalising alcohol is a bad thing, you don't want the whole world to be alcoholics.
Legalising cigarettes is a bad thing, you don't want the whole world to have all the problems related to smoking.

Oh wait life doesn't work like that.
It doesn't? aw crap...
Just wanted to point out that some substances are far more addictive and/or lethal than others.
But more important than controlled distribution is good education in terms of narcotics etc.
These "you will die from cannabis" commercials are just lies no one ever died of cannabis use. Maybe from doing irresponsoble things while being under influence but that is not the substance fault. Taking it was the responsibility of the person. When ran over you don't blame the car that hits you, you blame the driver.

I have no qualms with education, nor with deeper research into the precise short and long term effects on the body from drug use.

In fact, I fully endorse it.

Some may be more addictive/lethal than others, but that's each person's choice to make. If they're stupid enough to remove themselves from the gene pool with an OD of heroin, that's their own stupid fault.

I'm sure people have died from cannabis use, just not as many as the adverts try to hint at (I'm pretty certain that too much of anything can be leathal).

While legalising and regulating the use of most drugs would be a good idea in theory it has the one issue of how would we introduce this? (it wouldn't instantly resolve all problems related to drug use) Problems like aggressive dealers, people who currently suffer from chronic drug abuse and other related issues will be present even if 'newer' users will be spared.

Legalising everything could work (don't get me wrong) but it would require a hell of a lot of thought and hard work to get it to work the way everyone wants it to.

Also, as for the when a car hits you analogy...it would still be your own damn fault for doing something stupid because it was you who put yourself in that position in the first place (if you attack someone because you're drunk then you can't just appologise to them the next day and say you didn't mean to break their arm).

While I'm not so fussed by the presence of smoking, the legalisation of drinking raises questions because not only is it just as harmful as other drugs but it does in fact alter your behavior in a simmilar way to most narcotics.

Well,cannabis/prostitution/what have you should not be just legalised. They should be professionalised. All neccesary regulation, worker unions, taxes, all that stuff.

And same-sex marriage,of course. Why hold people down if they want to be a family?

***

As for thing I would really like to see legalised... Miniguns, probably. And high-explosive ammo.

Currently completely unregulated. If it's legal, it's regulated and taxed; you're taking away a vast amount of profit from criminal groups, too. Even if it's just by saying they're not criminals any more. Dealers out of jail, growers out of jail; I could go for all that. And people not having to worry about whether their weed's had dangerous chemicals on it.

None. If it's illegal in the first place then there's obviously a good reason for it.

Yah... The paper magnates of the early 1900's didn't want hemp taking over their industry.

Research a little before making stupid ass comments like that one pls.

I don't drink, I don't smoke cigarettes, and I don't smoke weed, but I have read up on all three, and my conclusion is: either make cigarettes and alcohol illegal, or make weed legal. There is no reason why the least dangerous drug of the three should be the only one that's illegal.

pot and prostitution should both be legalized, regulated, and taxed. i'm also in favor of legalizing any form of marriage between consenting adults. homosexual, polygamous, whatever.

Gay Sex was illegal until not too long ago. Laws aren't perfect and they never will be. Challenging them and deciding if they stand up to the test of time is how we advance culturally and legally.

That's why laws get changed.

Prostitution, not because I'm a lonely and horny man but because I see no reason it should be illegal. If they legalise it then they can control it and make it better for the prostitutes.

I see absolutely no reason to legalize polygamy. I'm not so sure about gay marriage either.
Because what two (or more) adults do in their spare time behind closed doors is no business of anyone but themselves?

The illegality of drugs, I think I agree with the Turian way of dealing with things, detailed in Mass Effect:

"There are no laws against recreational drug use on the Turian homeworld and as long as doing something don't interfer with your abillity to be a productive member of society, it's allowed."

I think cannabis should be legalised, you have about 23 times greater chance of getting cancer from cigarettes and it is not as damaging as made out, plus with a Kaleidoscope you can have endless hours of fun.
Thinking like that can get you fired [http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/oct/30/david-nutt-drugs-adviser-sacked].
