It sounds like she gave her consent, so would it still be considered sexual assault? And why is a 54 year old playing Runescape?

LOL, this sort of thing makes me laugh so much. Why would he buy her a cell phone? Really? You dont think someone would notice that a 13 year old, who has no source of income of her own, has a brand new cell phone? Aside from that...she has access to a compter. Why would she need a cellphone too? Web cams not good enough? Instant Messangers not good enough? Seriously, if your going to break the law with a crime that's likely to get you killed when you get to prison, at least try to be smart about it.

I guess this is the modern version of natural selection.

Lol I married people in RuneScape too.

I was 13 though. The girls made me buy them armor and diamond rings too. Waste of my precious GPs.
Same thing happens in real life too! Except, instead of armor, they make you buy an even more expensive dress that they will only wear ONCE!

Ill be honest, this makes my skin crawl a bit. However, I do know someone who has been in a relationship like this and they are just using each other. Sure it is illegal because she isn't over the age of consent but 11 felonies? Really? That just sounds excessive.

No, Runescape.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone retroactively blamed video games for the Holocaust.

I was 13 too back in the days of Runescape, except I pretended to be a girl for fools like you :p

On a more serious note, this won't look goof ro Jagex once it gets out to various parents around the world.

OMFG can i nominate this guy for the darwin awards. Please say this guy didn't honestly believe he was in the right....I love stupid people either way.
Sorry, no.

In order to be eligbile for a Darwin Award they need to be dead, have caused themselves to die in a very stupid way (or alternatively made themselves sterile), and not be able to have any children.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_Awards#Rules

I'd nominate him for a swift kick up the arse for his apparent lack of honour.
That said 13 ain't as bad as some of the shit we hear about... atleast it's this side of halfway legal.
I don't agree that she didn't know any better - I think 13 is old enough to make up your mind about whether or not to screw a 54 year old.

ofc this doesn't excuse the crime. Chop his balls off.

So...who wants to make bets about how long he'll last in prison? XD
Fifty bucks says two days. One day to get settled in, another for the rest of the inmates to find out what he did and then shank him.

Age of consent in the US is 16 at the earliest. So, yes, still considered sexual assault.

This guy sounds mentally incompetent. Seriously. He's 54, plays video games, evidently can't hold a job, and evidently can't distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality.

...that said, I think I'll be playing Runescape less often how. People from "To Catch a Predator" are probably going to start playing it now.

On the bright side, Runescape's finally going to get some publicity!

I like the escapist stamp graphic (first thought).

That said I concur with the people who are saying that the girl doubtlessly knew exactly what she was doing, especially with the multiple hook ups. That however does not make it right. I do not think adults should be having sex with teenagers, even I think sex between teens is fine (part of growing up and learning about life) and for that reason am one of those who support school sexual education and condom distribution. I do not think a relationship between a teen and an adult is especially viable, and that kind of thing destroys lives. It's far differant between people of the same age, with the same perspectives. What's more adults are fully capable of controlling their impulses, so the whole lolita "she seduced me" thing isn't an excuse.

At any rate, they should throw the book at him.

To be honest, I do not believe in online relationships myself, even though I have been known to engage in regular RP from time to time. To be honest I've seen the online marriages and such myself, and it doesn't surprise me that something like this happend and became big enough to make the news. I honestly think there are some lines that should be drawn and this is a player behavior that should possibly be banned. For all the "I met my wife online" stuff I just don't see much good coming from online RP marriages.

But then again I'm also one of those people who has in the past argued that I think Amazon.com should remove wish-lists. While useful for inter-family shopping and such, I think they are far more frequently employed for people in wierd online relationships to send gifts. Really I think it fuels the entire "camwhore" thing which is very similar to what we're looking at here. See, it's noteworthy here because this happened through an online game, BUT there are girls as young as this one who intentionally bait guys into buying them things online by performing sex acts (or engaging in hot chat) via webcam. One of the big reasons why I doubt she was an innocent victim. Amazon seems to be the major services that helps fuel this by making it so easy.

Just my thoughts on the subject, a lot of people are doubtlessly disagree with me on a lot of this.

At 13 she knew what she was doing, people need to stop thinking that teens don't know what the hell they are doing. Yes its bad that the guy took advantage of her, but who's to say she didn't use the guy to get cool stuff. She got a phone from him, and the only reason it caught on was because the mother (whom works 3 jobs) found out she had a phone.

So chances are the girl used the guy to get stuff because she don't get much as her mom works 3 jobs and probably makes barely enough to support herself and her kid. Since there was no mention of a father and the fact she is working 3 jobs means that the girl is most likely from a broken home(meaning its not all lollipop's and rainbows).

But the way things are in todays society the dude will have one of two things happen, either made an example of (most likely) or get like 10 years probation. As for the girl, I believe she knew what she was doing, she got stuff from him and in return he got sex.
I have to agree with this poster. She knew what was going on and consented. Was it stupid of the guy? Yeah. But he isn't a rapist in my book.
Because its human law...and thats really it.
Is it natural law? no in the world of today of hormones in products girls are developing physical looks far faster and well in the end always reached child bearing age around 13-14 *if not earlier*
natural law dictates this as not wrong.
Human law dictates that these kids are some how innocent and pure chosen by the majority or hell the moral minority that they were innocent and pure and thus must be protected.

If it had been a girl below 13? younger? then yes natural law dictates thats wrong but shes 13 and she is capable of making a decision... If kids can commit murder and get charged as adults at age 13...then certain sexual decisions are allowed but not according to the majority or even the vocal minority.
Do I agree with what he did? nope...but laws in this country are messed up like every other country.

Oh great. Just when I was happy with the good news like that cool skin cell gun and that kid who uses a robot to go to school, but this just ruined it. Why does crap like this happen like every few days? Is it really that common? Geez.
Well, that guy will probably have his ass pummeled in prison.

How about the really important questions.... What classes and races were they? What levels were they?
