Here we have definitive proof that motion controls as they are can never be used to provide a high rate of accuracy or responsiveness.
Never? That's an awfully long time. People have said humanity would never fly, go to space or be able to stream porn 24 hours a day. Now we can do it all.

Though I agree the Kinect and the Move are just gimmicks at the moment, their response times are indeed way too slow, to say that motion controls will never be adequate is shortsighted. Humanity went from cellphones the size of small cars to handheld devices with 100x the power in less than 20 years. In 10-15 years there may well be technology that would enable high levels of accuracy and responsiveness and we're just looking at the early prototypes.

This just goes to show you that the controller will always have its place in the videogame world, no matter how cool the idea of completely losing it might seem.
A is included in B. Not A, therefore not B. Smell like a fallacy to you?

But i didn't mean to sound pedantic, just that Kinect isn't anywhere near a device that can replace controllers. Once VR starts kicking in, we'll forget all about those silly things.
I find your opinion sir, very shallow and pedantic. (see what i did thar)

I'd like to see someone do a run of Kaizo Mario on the Kinect. They will be known as the swears heard 'round the world.

Simply put, you can't play Gears of War with a Kinect properly. You can't. How could you? How can you dive, run, snap to cover, blind fire, active reload, with a Kinect? Honestly, some one tell me how, because I can't imagine playing it without buttons, and Kinect ain't got no buttons.
Three words: giant hamster ball.

In all seriousness I am really looking forward to the day I can play an Fallout in full-on VR.

Pretty awesome. Who knew Kinect could bring together 3 such divergent platforms? With enough hacking, maybe it will actually be a decent device! Maybe it can bring world peace!

The issue with this one seems to be that mario and he move on different axis. Even though mario moves forward, he really moves left to right, so the guy has to jump and run left to right, which is awkward.

But yeah, there is no way that motion controls, especially full-body ones, will ever be able to achieve the necessary precision or speed for real platforming. It's kind of ridiculous to assume a 1:1 interaction between your body and the video game character's body, since in most games the character is performing super-human actions or things you otherwise cannot do within a 6x6' area of your living room.

As usual Kinect proves itself as an interesting yet impractical device.
A little more movement sensitivity is in order over there.

If anyone still needed proof Kinect won't work for most hardcore gaming, there's this scene from Babylon 5: Legend of the Rangers. Like many Minbari ships, the Liandra has a VR battle room. In the climax to the Vorlon-Shadow war on the regular series, a similar one allowed Capt. Sheridan and Delenn to monitor the progress of the three-way battle in all directions, and give appropriate orders. In Legend of the Rangers, however, the gunner controls the ship's weapons by using Tae Bo moves:

Now, in a heated battle situation where seconds count, what makes more sense? Pressing a button or trigger a split-second after your eye perceives the target, or winding up and throwing a punch or kick?

Doesn't it bother anyone that he's holding a pair of Wii remotes? Not sure if he's really using the movement of his body to control the game. I call shenanigans.

Nice try. But it's as effective as a Power Glove.

What would happen if you try Metal Gear Solid on Kinect?
