I'm inclined to agree with this. As a species, we've pretty clearly adopted a wide variety of funerary rites, but the vast majority of them call for solemnity and serenity. I think actively impeding the proper execution of such rituals qualifies as unprotected speech.bloodmage2 said:

I am disgusted that he did this with his kid in the truck, and I think that him spraying in such a way to also hit counter-protesters was unacceptable.
From a philosophical/moral standpoint, I support his pepper spraying the Westboro Baptist Church. From a practical standpoint, its probably good he was arrested for it. What if next time it was Fred Phelps and crew pepper spraying a gay pride parade? Then we wouldn't be so happy about it.

as long as they are advocating the harm of others its their right to spew whatever crap they want just as its everyone elses right to counter them and mock how stupid they are and the reason why its so important it stays that way is because its not hard to move from that to getting rid of the right to disagree. Hell this is a videogame site, there are more then a few people who would love to see videogames removed from being protected speech, there is currently a case being seen by the supreme court about that right now. All you have to do is look at the history of comics and the mccarthy era to see what can happen when you start limiting speech.
