I'd try to take the piss out of them by mocking them in a way they can't do a thing about.
Yeah, that's one of the easier and legal ways of dealing with pricks like this. It likely won't help stop them, as they likely view any attack or lack of attention as tests of their faith, but if they start getting laughed away from events, maybe, just maybe they'll let up.

...I've always wondered about the Westboro folks messeage. I mean it takes a special kind of crazy to see things their way. I get the feeling that if most people belived god was punishing us because of gays then we'd simpley FIND A NEW GOD!!!

Anyway this attack will proabley end up just strenghting the reslove of the Westboro Church...though we can alway hope it leads them to begin retaliating against "non-belivers" in which case they'd be quickly put down by authorities.

It's terrible, the Westboro Baptist Church will probably sue the municipality claiming their civil rights were violated by the cities inability to protect their free speech. They may even win and be awarded damages (money), this is exactly why these trolls do this.
That is fortunately beyond unlikely and into the realm of impossible. Until there's actually some sort of crime committed, the police don't actually even have to show up or do anything to protect anyone preemptively, and you shouldn't expect them to. They can, but they're by no means required to, and that precedent has been set in at least one noteworthy court case already (which I can't think of the name of right now to cite/link to). Enough members of the Phelps family are lawyers that I suspect they're well aware of that already and wouldn't bother. The guy who attacked them, on the other hand, is probably in trouble.

That is kind of amazing. This guy is pretty awesome, but bringing the kid was a dumb move.
They way the story he quoted is written it make me think this guy was just driving by and felt those guys deserved a little mace in the face.

I don't really have to share my opinion as I think we're all in general agreement, but I thought I'd share this wonderful video.

"God hates the world."
I laugh every time I hear her say that.

I'm going to laugh my ass off when Fred Phelps ends up in Hell.

Oh the irony will be so delicious.
Actually, I don't think that will happen, because there is no heaven or hell or any god to worry about pissing off.
Wow, thank you so much for missing the point of my post to tell me that my religious views are wrong.

I'm SO glad that you contributed so much to this conversation.

You know what? I have been enlightened. I'm going to stop following the deep and complex metaphysical and philosophical ideologies I have been living my life by, just because some guy on the internet told me that they were wrong.
Your welcome.

How is "neglect" to have the child in the car? I think the parent was raising them right, teaching what to do to hateful and ignorant people is to premptively use non-lethal means to shut them the fuck up.

What he did was assault and unnessescary, yes they're total whackjobs but a side effect of having freedoms of speech and assembling means they can do this no matter how repulsive I think it is.

The appropriate alternative is what the Patriot Guard Riders do, hide the protesters by forming a protective encirclement and droning their chants out with patriotic singing.

You have no idea how epic that registers in my mind while I look at your avatar.

OT: Is it bad that I'm sad it was only pepper spray? Seriously, I don't like these folks. I know nobody does, but... Y'know?

WBC did a tour of schools that had LGBST alliance in DC last year, and i got to see first hand their hate. They held up signs showing baby fetuses in burger buns, calling that a homosexuals lunch. They even had anti african american, and anti semitic signs. I am all for freedom of speech, but there has to be some kind of human decency in treating others. And whats worse is they had their kids, some under 10 and a few under 15 protesting and holding the racist, discriminatory, and down right disgusting signs! In the same way showing those signs, and desecrating a soldiers funeral is freedom of speech, i view this mans pepper spraying them to be his first amendment right.

Also the look on their faces when 3 lesbian couples started making out in front of them was priceless. The covered their little kids eyes to "protect them."

Your username is an example to us all. Fine upstanding name it is. Your words reflect this virtuous nature well.

I once punched a fellow Airman in the face over some petty little squable. It wasn't really about that, that was just the latest in a long line of down right shitty and stupid things he had done. Now seeing that I was an NCO at the time and assaulted an Airmen I figured it was time to hang up that recent promotion, but I just couldn't help myself.

Still a funny thing happened. When he went and tattled on me, nobody would go with him. When my shop chief asked the room full of Airmen and two Sgts what happened nobody apparently saw a thing.

I still had to talk with the Chief (for those not military, chief here refers to an E9 rank, while shop chief is a position that is not associated with range) and the First Sargent who both lectured me on how I got away this time but they where going to be watching me, and that while he may have deserved it, it still doesn't make it right.

The same thing applies here, oh man do they deserve a punch in the face, but doing so just confirms their points in their mind, and will never actually help you fix anything. You are not doing to help, or to teach them anything, you are just doing it to make yourself feel better.

Westboro Baptist Church was here in Vermont at one point (if I remember correctly), and protested at a high school in Montpelier. I heard that several gay couples made out in front of them. Oh how sweet it would have been to see the protesters rage at the sight of it.
God, I hope they stay the fuck away from now on. Vermont can use a lot less of that.

Fucking Westboro.

Wow. "Your welcome". Didn't see that coming.
Don't you dare tell me that my beliefs are wrong, because they are just as valid as yours, weather you can admit it or not.

That's definitely not irony.

He shouldn't have done that. They have the right to believe whatever stupid shit they want. This just gives them attention.
Hows that not irony? i'm just saying, that the guy constantly spouts that everyone is going to hell, so I'm just saying that it would be funny if he ended up going to hell.

Thats irony! :D
