What's starting to wind me up is every asshole on the internet is climbing out of the woodwork to pull this guy down for making a genuine mistake. We all do it.

Why aren't people complaining bout the fact that there are complete nobs put there trying to con people out of their money. £450 is a lot of money for some poorer people in the UK, and to be robbed of that money and THEN slated by the world as a moron is a real insult. I hope none of you calling this guy an idiot have ever made a mistake in your life.

I think what the primary issue is isn't that he was refunded for making a genuine mistake - that's right and fair. It's that he's been refunded AND rewarded for making the genuine mistake.

Lucky guy! But also a quite smart PR move from the store, the story already had media coverage and it was a safe bet that somebody would had made a follow up story on him. Especially when he gets a xbox for christmas for free. Technically this generosity could be seen as a excellent example how to manipulate the media to get good advertisement.

This I can agree with more than people defending the guy's purchase. The generosity is genius marketing, especially in the run up to the festive season.

Just some nice PR for CeX. There are probably more than a few that will now buy their xbone80 from that store, just because they did this.

Can't really blame em.

However, Ebay should never have given a refund. The product was properly described, just in the wrong category (oops....) Seller could just have claimed he did that by mistake. Since he was completely honest in the description(he said he was selling a picture, the buyer knew he was buying a picture. He just assumed it was something else.)

True, I think the issue is a wider one of the morality of someone being rewarded for a bad decision. That said, for me the issue is one that is seemingly being played down, as I said in my original comment: he's a 19 year old lad, the console is for him but he's used his child as a sob story. At point of release, I'd only say LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is suitable for a four year old child. I'd quite like it to come out what games he's purchased along with the console.

EDIT: Just Dance 2014 is also suitable.

Well thats the real mistake in the eyes of many, its not that he was daft enough to fall for a scam its because he chose the Xbox One. The damn Xbox one, how dare he? He deserves no sympathy, only someone getting scammed over a Wii U or PS4 is worthy of sympathy. The funniest thing is people seem to think thats not blatantly obvious and believe they are being subtle about it, I am sure some don't even recognise it in themselves either.

As you said, it's life and, sure, it would be better if we stopped fucking each other over but it's not going to stop. The only way we can stop this is by making sure that people won't be that dense the next time. Bad people will always be there no one can stop that, that's impossible. Only a campaign of publicly shaming stupid people can help, because this way everyone else will be cautious the next time they see a fishy offer. But we breed the next batch of stupid people by encouraging them to not stop and think for even a minute. It makes me sad that they're only gonna multiply.

Now for my statement on this.
There are so many things wrong with this. As a lot a people here pointed out that he is at his own fault and shouln't be rewarded, I even think that he shouldn't have been compansated. Who, in his right mind, thinks to get a new console on Ebay? Why? Amazon or the local retailer not selling? Who thinks to go to the place where people sell used stuff?

But the REAL tragedy here is that he is buying this for his 4! year old son. A FOUR YEAR OLD GETTING AN XBOX FOR CHRISTMAS! No one thought that this may not be the brightest idea? Of course he is the one mostly playing with it, but this robs the son of so many different, better presents for a 4 year old. That poor kid probably can't even hold the controller, let alone understand what's happening on screen. That dumb dipshit has the nerve to tell the media that it's a present for his son to get people to root for him.

It feels like said goodwill gesture was born out of his claim that the console was for his kid, which I simply refuse to believe.
