Manga: What Will Replace Naruto?

I am sad that the story ended but am oddly happy at the same time. I started reading Naruto when I was 19 and am in my 30s now. That is pretty amazing and while I do think that the Ninja War arc was overlong and a bit of a let down - I don't think I ever bought into the hate that this manga seems to get of late.

That said - it's over. And with Bleach being pretty awful and losing popularity everyday we seem to be left with only One Piece (and Attack on Titan which I personally despise) as the big Shonen dog.

Now I find it difficult to try new things sometimes, especially in terms of series and comics. But I wonder if there is something else out there that will tickle my fancy for a character driven, 'power progression' style fighting manga?

Fairy Tail probably.
Not a big fan of it but it's one of the more popular ones so there you go.

Hikaru no Go, if you're fine with a different kind of battles. A very, very good shonen series.

Luckily I only enjoy One Piece, so I can sit back for a nice 20+ years until they finally find the bloody thing. (Although I would also like to see Walter from Hellsing go up against Doflamingo.)

I'd be interested to see a newcomer enter, like something totally new. I'm not aware of much though, while I enjoy mainstream anime, it's not a thing I know a lot about, or sadly, care to investigate more. Besides, I'm almost done with Outlaw Star and then have to start Gurren Lagenn.

I dunno.

I just wish anime would come out with something that actually catches my attention. I used to watch anime a lot - never obsessed with it, but I always liked it.

For the past few years, though... I dunno, I've just lost all patience with the medium. It started seeming really repetitive to me, and every show either had a horrible ending (Code Geass, Death Note) or overstayed it's welcome and didn't know when to end.

I wish something would come along to... reignite my interest. But all the popular anime (SNK, Kill La Kill, etc.) just can't catch my attention.

The Shonen formula is here to stay. I'm pretty sure some annoying kid with a an even more annoying rival is going to dominate the JUMP top 10 in the next 2-5 years after the current top 10 have died a natural death.

Ugh. I really hope not. As much as I hate Naruto for not having any consequences(especially Sasuke), I find Fairy tail even more annoying and fights having no real consequences as well.

Well Hunter X Hunter is still a thing...
If only, as much I want it to happen, but given the constant hiatuses and Togashi's laziness, I doubt it will happen, which is a shame, Naruto fans will need something to move onto and HxH has a lot of potential, especially with the Chimera Ant arc and the set up for the Dark Continent arc, c'mon Togashi, get your shit together

Bleach is epic
Fairy Tail is like my fav thing ever anime/manga wise.

(I don't like Naruto tbh, but those seem the logical next step)

Fate/zero and madoka magica were surprisingly good. I never quite bought into the hype, but they really were solid narratives. I just started watching satoshi kon films too, though they're probably only new to me. Real masterpieces. Most of those aren't light hearted though : /

Also, obligatory berserk recommendation.

OT: replace naruto? I'm sure some young hot shot Japanese kid with bullying problems will start something right out of high school. Then we'll be subjected to several more years of screaming teenagers and flashy fight scenes. If it isn't clear, I'm not the biggest shonen fan : P

Under the Dog could be quite big, though.

Either Jojo replaces it and goes on to breed a generation of some fabulous looking youngsters.... or I'm out.

If you're gonna go shonen, go batshit insane to the point of satire.

Bleach is also supposed to be ending, just sayin.

OT: Donno, but some one else said they hope Jojo takes over, and ... I'd be ok with that.

It is indeed brilliant, but it's also worth informing anyone looking to get into it that it was (I think, but please correct me if I'm wrong) cancelled mid-story, so it has either no ending whatsoever or an extremely unsatisfactory one depending on who you ask.
Either way, it ends very suddenly.

Prince of Tennis isn't bad, either, in a similar but sillier vein to Hikaru no Go... or Berserk might not be a bad place to progress after Naruto. There's also Death Note, on the off chance you haven't already read that, or the authors' other series Bakuman, which is a very meta look at manga artists.

I can't agree. I felt the ending was good and came at the right place.

Bleach is in a fine spot, but it is in its last arc, so it won't exactly be around for too much longer. I can rest easy knowing that it won't go to Kaguya levels of stupid though.

No telling what will replace the "Big Three" though. I think that the days of ridiculously long-running series might be over, though.

Agreed after watching too many filler, overlong fights that lead to nowhere and mini-arcs about side-characters I dont care about, the next generation of upcoming shonnen should trim the fat.

Huh. Maybe the site I was reading it on didn't have all the chapters...

I will give it some time until a new shonen manga appear that will take up the mantle and become the new "Naruto" aka the part of the big three.
