Kick yourself out of it because if you don't it will only get worse. Think why you have depression, and ask yourself if it can get any worse, you'll see how much worse it can get and it should motivate you into putting your time and effort elsewhere and before you know it, you'll be complacent.

Well I'd like to throw in a word here, just saw this thread and it peaked my intrest, I myself have suffered depression for roughly 2 years now and have decided to stay off of medication and trying to drown said problems with alcohol, all I can truly say is try and find things that make you feel good like, spending time with your girlfriend or even just mellowing out to some music.

Just don't make the same mistakes most people like myself make and just think about it too much because I swear it'll eat at you and make you cave in or even have another "episode".

Just try to keep a clear head and spend time with people that make you feel better and a bit more cheerful, rather than be on your own with your maniacal thoughts making you go into the mood swings etc.

Hope that's helped, best of luck to you o/

Ok first things first no flaming please my anti-flame suit shrunk in the wash.

over the last couple of years i have had severe manic depression, i have been to the doctors and they prescribed me medication which didn't work, so my question to you escapists is this, can you think of anyway to help people like me cope with manic depression?

i should point out that i live in England so if you suggest any products they may not be available over here
Distractions are key. I suffer from a severe bipolar disorder called cyclomania. Being that Bipolar Disorder = Manic Depression, I know what you're feeling. You need to get out and moving, get hobbies, fill your schedule, get drunk, intimate, whatever you need to distract you from nihilism and self loathing.

Alex, Tom please refrain from flaming i don't really wanna have a locked thread on my profile, thank you
Watching a flame war between idiots is bound to cheer you up!
admittedly it is making me smile, but still if you are going to tear each other part do it in PM form please, im aiming for the 5000 post badge and this could severely cock it up

....tell me why I just wasted my time? God, nevermind. If you're just doing this sort of thing so you can get a badge, then you're just a moron. Go throw yourself off of one of England's cliffs. That'll end your "depression".

ok this i find really offensive, i didn't do this thread because i want a badge i was just saying it would be nice to be able to not get a locked thread, i did this thread because i get the same advice from family and friends day in day out, and the advice you jebbo and fightergarr gave me is more effective than anythign any doctor could have given me

I think you sir, are the moron here. He's not 'doing this for a badge' you numpty, he's over 4 and a half thousand posts from that badge. That's a goal for the future, if you read between the lines it's saying he wants to be known as someone who doesn't get in trouble here.

Your original post however was well thought out and insightful so kudos for that

Oh, okay. Sorry then. I thought you were saying you only posted this thread because you wanted to get a certain badge--not because you were actually depressed. Okay. Sorry about that. I misunderstood what you were saying. I'd written a long bit up there and so I read that wrong. Sorry about that.

Lithium is the general thing for manic depression, beyond that there's really nothin' much to be perfectly honest... ***

**Anti-sue/ban/whatever disclaimer : I'm not a psychologist (Yet) and you should go (back) to one (and a psychiatrist) in order to get the help you need. My ex had it and it (in combination with a few other things) really hurt himself and me (not like abuse or something just because I'm empathetic and don't like people I <3 to hurt) so yeah, go see a doctor, again.

Lithium is a horrible medication. Generally has the effect of turning you into an emotionless zombie. I knew someone who's mum took it. She was like a ghost.

Are you equating use to depresant or what? I'm confused...

But anyway self-medicating of any kind is bad an unhealthy. It's an escape (as anything can be) which means you run away from the problem at hand rather than face it. Granted not everything can be solved by yourself, though.
