see what youve got to do is go absoloutely batshit on something and smash up things it will help you by lots.

i was (and most likely still am#) severly depressed so i just brutalise things in order to let off some of the stress and sadness. because every one knows chainsawing some one in half is the ultimate stress relief and this children is why god gave us video games.

and satan sent us jack thompson.

uhhhhh, i had that problem.... just take a little stress out of your life.... maby quit some extra curricular thing that has been bugging you.... just try to take life easier...

try partying a lot
or smoking weed.... :)

it helps...

Friends, dammit no flaming. I mean have you tried working out why your depressed, I mean finding the underline reason why is generally the best bet, then you can work progressively towards a soloution. If you can't or don't know why, see a psychologist, maybe your repressing something?

Hey, I am sorry to hear that you are going through manic depression. It cannot be easy. I went through manic depression too so maybe I can give you a few pointers to help you get through it.

1) Go to the doctors and get some medicine to help you. There is medicine availble that, will not cure you, but help you go a bit more towards your normal self. If you have problem sleeping or relaxing, some sleeping pills or tranquillisers can help but only in the short term.

2) Get councilling. In councilling you can find a safe environmment to talk without judgement

3) Surround yourself by positive influences. Cut out the people in your life who make you feel bad

4) Set aims for things to do, hobbies or achievements e.t.c.

5) Try something you have never done before, like maybe a job or a skill, it can really boost your confidence

6) Depression is a very chemical thing. Try to reduce chemicals that can affect it such as chemicals found in tea, coffee, tobacco and alcohol

7) Be patient with yourself. Recover is a long process and there are no miracles

8) Do not feel bad for being depressed or having a bad day. Having bad days are part of the recovery process

9) Remember that you will not feel this way forever

10) Depression is very much a part or growing up and finding yourself. Many yound people get depressed these days

Im in england too. Really when it comes to manic depression there isnt much support. I find when i get really really low (i.e thinking silly thoughts) i just sleep (thats my personal solution).

Avoid booze...it doesnt do any good. Really there has to be things getting you down, the only thing really you can do is try and change that thing. If i remember rightly you should be able to confide in the other half, of if its not too personal then vent on these forums, Just dont go emo or max will bite.

I have a manic depressive best friend and nothing will ever help her. She's just naturally negative. I'd screw the pills if I were you and try correcting all the wrongs in your life manually. Mind you this is advice from someone who hasn't a clue what she's talking about...

I've suffered through depression since I was a kid. School was not kind to me. I've been on at least a dozen different medications and none have been effective. I'm on some new meds now hoping they'll at least keep me from falling into my usually downward spiral.

Now I've learned how to cope... to a degree. Just hanging out with my friends and having people to talk to now and then makes me feel a great deal better. I've got several hobbies that act as a catharsis. I role play (Yes I'm a nerd) and I play video games. Reading also helps me a great deal. It gives me something else to focus on for a while. Puzzling out the plot of a good book lets me think of more pleasant things.

There isn't a reason with manic-depression, it just is. There are certain things that can trigger episodes, but the mood swings are pretty much always present in some form if you have the illness and do not have effective medication.

I got put on Sodium Valproate for my Bi-polar disorder, rather than lithium. Valproate is actually an epilepsy medication, but it works as a mood stabiliser as well. Anyhow, that works pretty well for me, though I still do get very small mood changes even when I'm taking the meds, but nothing compared to full blown episodes. I haven't noticed any real side effects, or a proper episode while taking the pills, though when I've gone off them I've normally swung into a depression.

Right now I'm not medicated for no particular reason, and doing alright. Life is very uneventful and structured and nothing much has happened that could set me off to any extreme extent, but I should really start taking them before I drunkenly take some stimulant and spend the next month not sleeping and crawling up the walls of my room...

I can't say I come from a manic depression kinda background, but I'd adgree with shophius up here. If there's something that's wrong with your life, you need to try and work out what you can do to help the situation, and you need to find an outlet for your emotions - personally I do that through creative outlets like music and art.

Spend time with your friends, get out and try new things, on the whole you just need to take the reins to your own life. If you've got a problem, fix it yourself rather than becoming bogged down in the effects its having upon you.

Not the best idea, my mantra is only to drink and do drugs when you're in a good way, never when you're in a bad one. They're too self destructive if you're not able to control your own thoughts.

Aaaahhh Poisonfreak *hands dueling pistols*, let us duel for the title of good doctor of the Escapist. Now was it 10 or 20 paces?

On topic:Like others have said, get a distraction. A sport is a good distraction and it might even make you more fitter/stronger. You could get a hobby that's productive like drawing or something of the sort(not video games). Alternatively you could do volunteer work except you might see things that make you even more depressed.

Just throwing suggestions out here.

I've suffered from depression for over 10 years and I've found the following.

Drugs - I tried some for 2 months but eventually had to stop as they destroyed my concentration. I know they work for some people, but if you've tried them before I wouldn't suggest trying them again.

Girlfriend - For me getting a girlfriend was probably the worst thing I ever did. If you arn't careful, a relationship like that can end up you using them as an emotional support and simply as something to help you forget like drink and/or drugs. If you're confident this won't happen to you then go for it.

Friends - If you have good friends you can rely on, do what you can to keep them. I've got 3 friends who have help me a lot over the years and I can honestly say if it wasn't for them I doubt I'd still be here.

Activities - Another good thing especially if you can make it goal orientated as it makes you feel you've actually done something. The important thing is even if you don't feel like doing something, force yourself to do it anyway.

Therepy/Counciling - I would recommend this not only so you have someone to talk to in confidence but, if they are any good, they can help you get to the reason you have depression and if you know why, its easier to deal with and fight.

Have you tried marijuana? It works wonders for schizophrenia and might work on the same principals for manic depression.

Weight lifting.

Or some form of excersize, it works for me. I can't remember the word but when you work out your body releases a feel good chemical into your body. Everytime I go and run or do something I feel very positive afterwards even if I was quite sad just a short while ago.

Get a hobby of something that makes you happy works a lot better then pills.

Not flaming I use to have manic depression pills did nothing, so I tried drawing and bam I was happy and I have got rater good a digital art. (just wishes he could do something other then furry's or dragons.)
