After browsing through the Brink forums, I found a thread about the amount of maps that would be available upon release. (No one was sure) But a few replies in, people began mentioning looking forward to map packs. Not just more maps, or an addition campaign arc, like the Left 4 Dead series. But solely maps, which they pay for, like Modern Warfare 2. It felt like something hit me over the head.
Maybe it's because Valve has spoiled me. Maybe it's because I'm a tightfisted bastard when it comes to purchasing... anything. Maybe it's because I'm used to the availability of mods and user-created content on the PC. Maybe it's because I think of Brink as a co-op campaign game -- I hadn't even considered deathmatch and such -- so a map pack defeated the purpose of the game. But this just sort of blew my mind.
So, folks, the discussion. What are your thoughts on paying for map packs? Is there a certain price/map-amount ratio that makes it acceptable? Do you buy them the moment they pop up? Wait for them to get a massive sale, or they all are released together (via GOTY or something)? Or do you just avoid purchasing DLC altogether?
