Mario, 2D vs. 3D

I personaly think of all 3D Mario games to be full of fail. Something about being in 3D makes the real reason I play a Mario game get flushed down the toilet. The platforming! Although I will admit Super Mario Sunshine(the only 3D Mario I own, although I have playd Galaxy) was an ok game all around, it pale's in comparison to good old 2D Mario platforming! I did purchase Super Paper Mario for the Wii and it was fun. Much better then Sunshine and Galaxy combined. Although even that had few true platforming moments that were broken up with boring no-brainer puzzles or pointlessly large amounts of enemies to kill. The RPG(although I do love-to-death RPG games) elements just bogged down what I think the game should have been based around. Super Mario Bros' 3 is one of my favourite games of all time even to this day. And im very saddened to say that it doesnt look like there is ever going to be a better Mario game.

Am I alone in my view point? Wether or not, speak up and voice your opinion on the subject.

Yes the old games are good, but everyone thinks the old games are better. Why? Becuase you haven't played them recently they are actually quite frustrating although good.

Some good 3D Mario (in my opinion):
Super Mario 64
All Paper Mario's
Galaxy

Well yeah sunshine did suck ass but that's one. And does Luigi's mansion count as either as a Mario game? Because I found that to be entertaining.

Firstly she is a wolf goddess(check out the anime Spice And Wolf) who is hundreds of years old. She just happens to choose to be in the form of a 16 year old girl with wolf ears and tail. Secondly she's covered up completely so it shouldnt matter much.

And to anyone else who seems distracted by my avatar please ignore it and discuss the topic at hand.

Wait, you're criticizing the 3-d mario games without having played Mario 64? That is by far the best of the 3-d games.

Its not a vest, its her hair.

And yes Luigi's mansion counts as a Mario game. Its still the same name brand. But personaly I think luigi's mansion was an atrocity on gaming.

First off, I couldn't care less who she was, and I love anime. Secondly, I wouldn't call that covered up. Thirdly, I'm just getting irritated by seeing those kinds of avatars on this website.

Maybe I'm the only one.
It's okay, you're not alone.

As for Mario, I think both versions are good. I liked the original 3d ones, and I liked the 3d ones, too.

Oh yeah. And you need to play Mario 64. It was awesome.

No. It's entirely distasteful.
I second that.

But to be more on topic, for the most part I prefer the 3D Mario games. I don't really know why, I just do. My favorite Mario game is actually Galaxy (go ahead and give me weird looks, I get them from my friends all the time for that XD).

I mean, to each there own, but seriously at least try Super Mario 64. It is a great one. Don't try the DS remake though... go original or nothing.

EDIT: What's with all the hate on Sunshine... I liked that one! =/

Over all I thought Sunshine was an ok game. Not great but not bad. I also however think that its nothing as good as the original 2D games.

i think after Super Mario 64 was when the series became too complicated. it's the only 3d mario title that i enjoyed

i personally like the simply beautiful 2d Mario's when gaming was in the era of not having to possess deep and emotional storylines or complicated control schemes

Have you fully played Mario Galaxy?
Seriously?
Try getting the full stars and all the maps again...

Ok, IMO Mario Galaxy was EFFING GENIUS, every single power-up Mario got was fun and inventive. Some of the harder levels were made for serious gamers, although it was mostly designed to be played by anyone, it was just right.

In my opinion that game is waaaaaaaay better than Mario 64 (and I'm also a fan of that game, racing penguins was fun as hell). Though I understand why people still love M64, at the time the game was too awesome to even believe.

What 3D Mario game were you playing... 'cuz I REALLY wanna try it.
Deep and emotional storylines in mario? Where? how? what? As for the control schemes, well you cant have all the extra mechanics in the same buttons can you? Even in the 2d DS remakes you still have "complicated control schemes" when compared to the original NES games, its a matter of evolution, more movements = "harder" controls.

Mario galaxy was great but I often ask myself if anyone would have liked it if it was about a magic dog in space instead of Mario, it would have been good either way but people seem to defend Mario product because thier Mario. (I did love Mario Galaxy though)

You're not alone...

Anyways, I would advise against playing SM64 now, because it has aged very badly. Try Galaxy, although frustrating, it's really fun.

Mmmm... I believe I wouldn't have played Doggie's Space Adventure. Simply because its a matter of tastes. Its ok to play a colory and kinda "gay" game as long as its Nintendo's lol.
Remember Kirby? Pink hero, gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay... But it was so damn good (3d kirby sucked btw, possible topic?).

If you wanna try and blame all Nintendo fans for being Nintendo fans first try to watch a couple of GameOverthinker videos, and try to understand most of us.

Don't know about that. SM64 still looks great to me. Then again, could just be nostalgia clouding my vision.

Graphics look lame now. But yeah, gameplay will always be awesome.
Maybe try it on the DS, you know, tiny screen making up for the bad graphics ^_^
