[quote/]Nintendo showed the first footage to the sequal of one of it?s most popular titles on the Wii, Super Mario Galaxy. Super Mario Galaxy 2 takes Mario to new worlds but from the same galaxy. The game mechanics look largely the same but do offer some new abilities such as the new ?screw-attack? and Yoshi?s new abilities. No release date was announced[/quote]

Holy crap.

Thats all I have so far. Thoughts?

I don't know about you but I'm pretty damn excited. Mario Galaxy is the best game on the Wii in my eyes. It's shame that they didn't come up with a new "gimic" like they usually do but hey? Yahtzee was right, where can you really go once you've taken Mario into space? (apart from Luigi's mansion 2...)

It looks just like mario galaxy 1. except with Yoshi...I would of prefered luigis mansion 2. The first mansion was the best mario game since 64.

Have to agree with you. Luigi's Mansion is my favourite Nintendo game. Plus it has so much potential on the Wii. The hoover and wii remote could have made for some rail shooter sections.

But I did love Mario Galaxy. Yes, this does look like more of the same, but sometimes thats not a bad thing if you've got a game of such high quality.

This is one example where "more of the same" is a good thing, because even with "more of the same" in mario galaxy, you were never doing the same thing for too long because levels all had their own unique mechanics and feel. There was a lot of variety and just plain fun in that game.

I'm disappointed. I was hoping for another original concept like Sunshine.

Honestly, I think this is further proof that Nintendo doesn't care too much about us 'hardcore' fans anymore. Instead of putting out a full creative team, we get the same game with a few new gimmicky mechanics and new maps. Yeah, a lot of sequels are like this... but I expected more of Nintendo.

I personally loved Galaxy but never really got into it.

Yoshi not being in the game was its main flaw I kept on hearing. So this is an improvement.

This is the first time there has been a second mario game on a Nintendo console since the NES days.

The SNES had Mario World, the 64 had Super Mario 64, the cube had Mario Sunshine and the Wii had Mario Galaxy. Hopefully it will not suck.
Nintendo do not tend to do sequals in the same way other companies do them. Nintendo tend to either wait a generation or in Twilight Princess's case make the game in another art style.

Hm. I'm kind of disappointed they didn't make something entirely new, but I did love the first one, and the fact that this one has Yoshi definitely is a huge plus. Hopefully, it will also have some other new innovations, as well.

I have no opinion on this, as I have yet to purchase Super Mario Galaxy.

See what I did there?

Easily one of Nintendo's best announcements this E3. Super Mario Galaxy an exceptionally well-done game full of brilliant ideas, and currently one of the best games for the Wii. While it would've been interesting to see where Mario possibly could've gone next, more of the same is not a bad thing at all in this case.

Fantastic, Super Mario Galaxy was one of the gaming highlights of 2007. Can't wait for this.

I completely agree! Luigi's Mansion is one of the greatest games ever, fantastic game! Well, looks like my Wii is going to get dusted off in a few months.

I'm a bit disappointed with the re-use of a succesful concept.

On the other hand, if it turns out to be a fun game, I'm not complaining. And it probably will.
