Well he was playing Fortnite in Endgame. That sounds like something goofy and memeable and related a massive corporate committee would think humanizes their generic stock superhero
Well I mean Disney already tied Fortnite to the Star Wars franchise by having the Emperor reveal trailer happen IN GAME, instead of in the final film of a trilogy. So they clearly are happy to coordinate with that company and their piles of cash. So yeah, I fully expect it to be something that's in the game. But since it seems to be single player, I don't really care, as I'll just, you know, not buy that shit.

Yes, you can choose not to buy or use them in-game. My concern stems from the fact that I know there will be people spamming these emotes to troll during co-op, andnot really helping out with the objectives. I know that it will be a pve co-op, but when I play a game that requires teammwork, I expect a goddamn teammwork and not fucking around

In my experience, games where the coop is against PVE stuff, there is significantly less trolling/toxic behavior, as opposed to competitive games. So I don't think it will be as bad as you predict. I base this off years of playing L4D2 and Payday 2, and similar coops, and while sure, you occasionally get a deuchebag, the majority of the time they are cool. they might be bad at playing the game, but they are generally not intentionally trying to screw you over.

Wow this looks significantly better than the first gameplay reveal they put out. A little too much going on sometimes with the particle effects, but we won't always be playing as Thor. Can I say tho that the bit with Iron Man's no look repulsor blast was fucking hilarious? He looks away all cool like, such a badass... then immediately looks back in the same direction lmao

Kamala being in the game is a nice surprise, but also, super specific. She's hardly as big a draw as someone like Miles, but then she is one of the more popular Inhuman characters. Speaking of Inhumans, I'm guessing this isn't a world where Mutants exist.

What does worry me though is the gear system. Sometimes its a nice thing to have, other times it just means that all the gear pieces don't have as much effort put into them. And of course microtransactions.

Eh, personally I don't mind the idea that she chose a name close to her icon Captain Marvel. It makes sense to me that a young woman like herself would do that, plenty of real world people do stuff like that to some degree or other, so it doesn't bug me really.
I do understand what they were going for, but still I think she has so little to do with Captain Marvel that she would be better served by not having to live in her shadow, also I don't really like how Marvel made all the ethnically diverse new heroes successors to old ones, it feels a bit to safe and if I'm honest a little bit condescending as if if they can't be their own things, like with Miles Morales it works great because he has a really cool story regarding Peter Parker's death and the pressure of succeeding a hero like Spider-Man, but with Kamala it feels a bit arbitrary, Ms. Marvel's still around just known as Captain Marvel now, she doesn't have her powers or powers relating to her and they don't even know each other, so it feels like more of a marketing move than anything else, I still like her a lot but I think she would have been better served by not being treated as Ms Marvel 2.

Emphasis on sometimes. I'm all for that, but from the (admittedly small) amount of her content that I've seen, it's not a sometimes thing that they make her look comical in her power usage. That it's always like that. Her Big Fisting approach to combat is implied to be sort of her standard method of attack. Basically, I'd like to see them utilize her powers more like they did with Elastigirl, though way more grapply than punchy. Sure, have her do some comical stretchy stuff too, that's fine, I'm all for comedy in my comics. Just you know, not her default state being that.

I guess I just, one of my biggest issues with comics is the way some powers seem to be sort of secondary ideas to the devs, like how people always mock Jubilee for just "making lights and sounds with her hands" and I'm just thinking "I'm sorry but, sonic and light attacks are incredibly disabling, she's actually pretty fucking terrifying if , you know, somebody who was on the writing team actually utilized her powers well." It's like that one Nightcrawler scene in the opening of X-Men 2, where you realize "Oh shit, ok someone who can -just teleport- is actually pretty fucking terrifying when they are used properly" And I feel the same way about Kamala and her power set. I'd personally rather see her have something else, because I just don't like stretchy powers that much. But if she has to have them, at least make it really apparent that she can be incredibly dangerous with them. Have her train into it, with some grappling specialists or something, make it be a progression in her power advancement, not just "I'm able to get even bigger hands to fist you with."

Anyway, rant over. I'm psyched to play the game, especially Kamala. I hope they make her feel like the badass I think she is, when I'm playing her. But we'll see.

Sidenote: They gave Banner a beard in the scene where Kamala is first talking to him, when in the previous trailer he didn't have a beard. The first choice was better. He looks really dumb with that Beard of Sorrow.
Well it is a huge problem, unfortunately I don't know if it's due to editorial mandate, strict time constraints, lack of imagination or whatever other factors or combinations of factors, but comic books tend to use the same moves over and over again rather than coming up with new stuff, like you mention part of the reason why the Incredibles is so entertaining to watch is that they come up with all this wacky and creative things for the characters to do, particularly with Elastigirl, that motorcycle scene on the 2nd movie was extremely creative and as a result very fun.

It's because of things like that as well as inconsistent writing between authors that I don't really read super-hero comics anymore, but in the case of Kamala I really enjoyed the original run of Ms. Marvel, I would need to re-read it in order to see if the powers were well done, but at least the character of Kamala was both well executed and very likeable.

It looks like tomb raider in avengers skin. very uninspired.
Uh... what?

This looks nothing like Tomb Raider, at all. Or did I miss the Co-op Tomb Raider game, where you can be a melee-focused, flying Lara, with lightning powers?

If this had Thor raiding tombs, and doing parkour and stealth sections, I'd get it - but your bias is really shining through, here.
...
Otherwise, I don't know how to feel about this game.

Something about the "realistic" style of graphics that they have gone for, only makes the characters look super uncanny to the ones from the movies. I get that this isn't supposed to be an MCU game, but when you have spent 10+ years watching these films multiple times, these characters, in my mind, should look like the ones from the films - and these just look like bargain bucket knock offs. Except from Kamala Khan, who isn't in the films (yet) - so she is the only one that looks okay, to me.

I dunno, maybe I would have appreciated a more cartoony aesthetic.

I guess that might be why the game doesn't look great to me. Im just so hung up on how cheap these characters look, that the rest of the game looks cheap too, simply by being associated to these character models.

The game itself might be fantastic. Maybe I will just have to watch these trailers a couple more times, and with a little more objectivity.

Yeah I don't really follow comics anymore. After working in a comic shop back in the 90s for about 2 years, I just got numbed to the various titles. They were all so interchangeable. And when I realized that they're basically just soap operas in written form (meaning they just have no ending in sight, characters drop in and out, are assumed dead, but surprise! they're not! etc), I just couldn't care. I would occasionally dip my toe back in, usually when a character concept that got some publicity was interesting to me, like Miles Morales, Ironheart or Female Thor, because I'm a sucker for Legacy stories. But after the first dozen issues or so, it just felt like more of the same, with varying degrees in quality of writing. So I usually prefer them in video game form these days, as they can actually structure a STORY, with a beginning, middle and an end, where things have some narrative weight, at least at first.

But damn, now I'd like to see a Ms. Marvel video game, with the combat system of the PS4 Spider-Man title. The basic mechanics would be very similar, just instead of web tendrils going out and grabbing badguys, it would be her limbs. I would LOVE to see a slow-motion takedown attack of hers, where she like whips out several of her limbs, wraps up 3 dudes like a snake, and just flings them all to the ground in a combo-slam takedown. That would be so fucking cool to see her powers used like that.

Max's view on the game. I can't blame him for his impressions and views. This game makes me rather play Spider-Man instead. Or MvC.
