Agreed on both points - either a rogue A.I or possibly a cyborg - abit like Saren seemed to be even in the early part of the game.JohnSmith said:I'd say the shadow broker is definitely a rogue A.I. Also I think if cerberus were going to be a threat it would be with a bioweapon of some sort. Rather than allying themselves with a reaper.
Oh? You heard awful things? Hmmm, I see. I think Yahtzee just doesn't like RPGshigh_castle said:Alright, so I just got finished with my second play through of Mass Effect. I have to say, the game left me pleasantly surprised. I got it for 15 bucks in the used bin, and after hearing some awful things about it, was prepared to hate the thing.
Yeah, I know the one you mean. It was the one where Admiral Kohoku told you where to find those Cerberus bases, and you find his corpse in the final one. Then, you take out their big base and download some info. When you get back to the ship, the Shadow Broker contacts you and says that they provided Kahoku with the info to where the Cerberus bases were, and the payment was going to be him providing the Shadow Broker with copies of all info found.Bigeyez said:Speaking of connections between the Shadow Broker and Cereberus I remember one side quest where you get some cerberus documents and then get contacted by the Shadow Broker because he wants to buy them from you. Dont remember what they were but I think it was in one of the missions where they were using biotics??? Not sure...
I understand why ME gave that explanation of them being too alien and too synthetic for any organic being to understand...but I still think it's a bit of a cop out. I hope we at least get to hear something from the Reapers as to what they're reasoning is. I think we will, it will just be revealed in the second or third game.Doug said:*snip*
Well, it definitely would be an interesting little twist. So far most of the AI we've encountered has been decidedly anti-organic. The Shadow Broker doesn't seem particularly malicious, though. He/It/They just enjoy playing humans against each other, but doesn't seem to have a preference in who comes out on top.JohnSmith said:*snip*
Not just Yahtzee. Some of my RL friends panned the game as well. After playing it, I vow never to trust their judgment again. I haven't taken the thing out of my console since playing it. Much happier with Mass Effect than I was with Fallout 3. That game was my biggest disappointment, this one my biggest surprise enjoyment. My faith in Bioware has been repaired after the really disastrous Neverwinter Nights 2.Doug said:*snip*high_castle said:*snip*
True. We'll have to see if the Reapers were just being extremely aggronant/lying/etc or rather are that strange - it'd put them in the leagues of demons in terms of motives.high_castle said:I understand why ME gave that explanation of them being too alien and too synthetic for any organic being to understand...but I still think it's a bit of a cop out. True, but its possible there are a few AI's in hiding who actually think that, with time, they and the organic races can get along. We'll have to see, methinks.high_castle said:Well, it definitely would be an interesting little twist. So far most of the AI we've encountered has been decidedly anti-organic. I suspect they are more of the Halo type? Anyway, you'll probably like alot of Bioware's back catalog, although Neverwinter nights (I think they made that...?) is more D&D related.high_castle said:Not just Yahtzee. I don't know, I quite like Fallout 3 as well. Also, although Bioware made the first Neverwinter Nights, the second was made by Obsidian, just like with KotOR.high_castle said:Not just Yahtzee. True, its great the first time, and not so great to replay - but thats a problem with alot of story-based games. Still, quite a few variations on the side quests you can arrange - hell, even in the main plot, I didn't realise you could get the human ambassor guy to say "I'm tired of this anti-human bull-" at the council.GodsOneMistake said:Mass effect is a great game kinda hard to replay because of all of the talktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalk but i'm just waiting till i forget all they said and play that bad boy again
I forgot Obsidian took over that title. It's so ingrained in my head as a Bioware title. Although I will say I thought the Shadows of Undrentide was pretty disappointed. I'm positive that was one of Bioware's.orannis62 said:I don't know, I quite like Fallout 3 as well. Baldur's Gate plus the expansions/sequel are some of my favorite older games. And I really enjoyed Jade Empire (KOTOR was meh, but I'm not a big Star Wars fan in general). So yep, big on the Bioware catalog.Doug said:I suspect they are more of the Halo type? I found ME pretty good for replay value. The more achievements you hit for weapons/abilities, the more you can customize your character, which is pretty cool. The dialogue options provide for some different ways to get intel and attempt missions. Even the background you select for your character changes quests and the ways people deal with you. I'm on my third replay and still having fun with the thing. But I expect that's why I like story based games as opposed to shoot-em-ups.Doug said:True, its great the first time, and not so great to replay - but thats a problem with alot of story-based games. Possibly, possibly - the question is, can the reapers even get into the Galaxy within, say, 100 years, let alone within the life time of a human. If area of Dark Space where the Reapers are hiding is well outside the galaxy, even FTL speed would take a long time to reach a mass relay... unless of course they have a second, plan B relay.AlphaOmega said:I loved Mass Effect, I think I did every subquest on my playthrough (advanced)
Havent started a second game yet but I played it for 47 hours.
It would be nice if part 2 was about multiple "minor" threaths and in 3 (they said it was a trilogy fro mthe start) all these minor things connect to reavers again. forcing reapers back into 2 would be bad imo too soon.
Hard to replay? Tell that to my 9 playthroughs (and counting).GodsOneMistake said:Mass effect is a great game kinda hard to replay because of all of the talktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalk but i'm just waiting till i forget all they said and play that bad boy again
They've said that they'll let you reuse your saves from the first game, and that Shep is the main character for all three.veryboringfact said:Seeing as the spoiler alert has been given, i can safely ask how will they handle the open-end of the original ? Choosing to either save the council or help Earth achieve galactic dominance by letting them die must have a pretty mass(ive) effect on how the rest of the story will play out..... Maybe Shepard will for no apparent reason jet off to the edge of the universe and they will pull a new hero out of their ass and have you spent the first 15 minutes of the game playing 20 questions to make up for every major event in the first game.
Um good for you?orannis62 said:Hard to replay? The Reapers are the Protheans.Doug said:I wonder what everyone thinks of...The Reapers? Who made them? Or rather, how and when did I they come into existent? And why do the repeat the cycle of let organic civilizations grow and then wipe them out? Or is it impossible for us to understand as, lets face it, the Reapers are absolutely alien to us...?
